LawLaw is a five-year integrated course in the national law schools and some other colleges. A student can also study for LLB after graduation. LLB course will be for two years, like post-graduation course. Admission to practice law in India is subject to the rules of the Bar Council of India [BCI]. The BCI requires twelve years of school education followed by five years of higher education which includes the undergraduate law degree LLB. It is seen that a few students practice dual qualification, i.e. Indian law as well as UK law. Graduates who obtain their first degree in India can join a UK university, for a three-year undergraduate LLB law program which has been approved by the BCI. On graduation these students will have completed five years of higher education and can therefore seek enrolment as a lawyer in India, subject to passing a BCI written examination on Indian law.

An Indian national with a UK law degree can seek legal qualification in the UK by completing either the Bar Professional Training course or the Solicitors' Legal Practice Course. An Indian national who obtains a law degree from an Indian university is not eligible to apply for the Bar Professional Training Course nor for the Solicitors' Legal Practice Course because their degree is not recognized as a Qualifying Law Degree by the legal profession in England and Wales. An Indian law graduate, who is enrolled by the BCI, may apply to take the Qualified Lawyers Transfer Test of the Law Society of England and Wales. The applicant must have been in full-time practice for not less than two years. Successful candidates are enrolled as solicitors of the Supreme Court of England and Wales.

Definition of common terms:

Early Decision (ED): ED means that students apply early and receive an early reply, however students have to be sure that the college they have chosen for Early Decision should be final decision because THE STUDENT, IF SELECTED DURING 'ED', IS NOT ALLOWED TO REFUSE THE OFFER. In other words, Students are not allowed second thoughts about other colleges if they are selected during Early Decision.

Early Action (EA): EA is similar to Early Decision. However, students here will not bear the risk of contract. The limitation of EA is that the students don't have their final transcripts so the admission is based on grade 11th scores. Also, if a student had applied during EA cycle, he/she will not be considered during regular cycle.

Rolling Admission: Rolling Admission means a student's file will be evaluated as soon as it is complete. The turnaround time is about six weeks. Some colleges consider a complete file at the end of junior year and others wait for first term grades. Because many of the State Universities have rolling admissions and students tend to apply early, many popular colleges may fill their housing on the main campus by January. The sooner the students apply the better for rolling admissions. Essentially, at the beginning of the Rolling Admission process, the schools are more open to accepting a wider variety of students. As the school begins to fill up, the admissions office becomes selective.

Reporting test scores to colleges

Students can easily report their test scores (SAT/ACT/IELTS/TOEFL) from collegeboard website or ETS website. The scores are reported free of cost to First four chosen schools. After these the student has to make the payment for each application.

52

The common Application

Most USA universities consider application through common application platform. Students can create an online profile in common app and can send the same profile to various universities.

Apart from student's academic details and extra curriculars, common app also asks for:

l SOP- statement of purposel LOR- letter of recommendationl Test scores (SAT/ACT/IELTS/TOEFL)

Study in Canada

Canadian education can be categorized in two types. They are named as university education and college education.

Colleges : have full-time and part-time diploma and certificate programs. Many also offer Bachelor degrees in applied areas of study. Colleges tend to be more directly career-oriented than universities. This means they offer practical or hands-on training. Generally, a certificate program is 1 year or less, and a diploma program is 2 or 3 years. Colleges also have pre-trades and apprenticeship training, language training and skills upgrading.

Universities: are institutions that can grant degrees. All universities have undergraduate (bachelor's) degrees, and many have graduate (Master's and doctoral) programs.

Admission

In most Canadian universities and colleges, the academic year is divided into two semesters, the fall semester (Sept-Dec), and the winter semester (Jan-May), with a short vacation at Christmas. Many colleges also offer a summer semester beginning in May. University deadlines for the September session vary from institution to institution, though are generally from mid December to the end of March. Colleges may have a rolling admission policy and will accept applications while processing time still permits.

There are some differences in the application process if you are applying to colleges and universities in the province of Ontario and in the province of Quebec compared to colleges and universities in the rest of Canada..

Effective Resume Writing Writing a great resume does not necessarily mean you should follow the rules you hear through the grapevine. Every resume is a one-of-a-kind marketing communication. It should be appropriate to your situation and do exactly what you want it to do. The resume is a tool with one specific purpose: to win an interview. If it does what the fantasy resume did, it works. If it doesn't, it isn't an effective resume. A resume is an advertisement, nothing more, nothing less It doesn't matter how qualified you are, or how much experience you have - if your resume is poorly presented or badly written, you're going to have trouble getting the interview, or even the job you want.

Generally it's good to present the information on your resume in this order:

Contact details Opening statement List of key skillsList of technical skillsPersonal attributes/career overview Educational qualifications Employment history/volunteering/work placements Not everything in this list must appear on your resume every time, and the order can change from application to application.
