HISTORY
Grupo de Folclore do Rochão:
The Rochão Folcklore Group was founded on December 17th of 1986 by Alexandre Rodrigues and a group of young people, all admirers of the folklore. This group appears after the division of another existing group in Rochão due to different views on how to represent and interpret the manners and habits of the people from Rochão and Camacha.
Since its foundation the group has been commited in researching deeper the various areas of the Folklore ethnography, such as the dancing, the music, the singing, the clothing and other aspects.
In 1989, our group promoted its first exchange with another group from mainland Portugal and since then we've been continuously putting foward these kind of exchanges either in national or internacional scale. In Portugal our group has already roamed the mainland from the north to the south and also some of the islands from the Azores archipelago. On an international scale we can highlight our presence in Spain, the Canary Islands, France, Germany, Brazil, Italy and the UK.
It's also worth mentioning our Festival which takes place every 2 years and is already on its XI edition on a national level and IX edition on a international level and conferences about the different aspects of the Ethnography and the Folklore such as "Os remédios d'outrora" (The remedies from the past), "O nosso folclore no limiar do Século XXI" (Our Folklore on the edge of the 21th

Century), "Os tocadores de Harmónica e o entretenimento popular" (The harmónica players and the popular entertainment), etc.
In 2006 the year in which took place our 20th aniversary the group edited its first CD, entitled "Meia Valsinha".
Currently, with around 40 members, our group has an essential role in maintaning the tradicional culture of Rochão and Camacha.

Presentation of several themes: dance, games and songs in the hotels of the region.
B) PRIVATE AND PUBLIC EVENTS Presentations at private parties: weddings, baptisms, birthdays, stingrays. Public events: Flower Festival, Wine Festival, New Year's Eve Party, Shear Sheep Festival. Festivals of Folklore by the region.
C) IN PORTUGAL AND WORLDWIDE Travel to mainland Portugal from the north to the south of the country, Azores and abroad as: Brazil, England, France, Italy, Spain, Germany in representation of Madeiran folklore.
