Korjo Travel Tips How to choose the right adaptor

The new Korjo European adaptor for Italy and Switzerland (KA EU IS) is an important addition to the Korjo range of adaptors. Until recently, the Korjo EU adaptor has utilised 4.00mm round pins, so that we could offer greatest flexibility in usage for the different sockets across Europe. A change in compliance requirements has meant that our earthed KA EU adaptor must now have 4.8mm pins.

Some EU sockets – particularly those in Italy and Switzerland have recessed sockets that only take 4.00mm pins and do not have an earth contact. So the new KA EU IS has been designed to cater for travellers going to Italy and Switzerland.

(Note: this adaptor will also be useful in some South American countries – e.g. Chile).

NOTE: KA EU IS has a 2 pin socket only. If you are travelling with only 2 pin appliances, you could also use the KA EU IS in many other countries in Europe.

Most Korjo adaptors have 3 pins - an active, a neutral and an earth, although the earth can also be a contact instead of a pin. But JA 06 and KA EU IS only have 2 pins (active and neutral). These adaptors are suitable for sockets that do not utilise the earthing system.

JA 06 and KA EU IS can only be used with 2 pin Australian plugs. There are only 2 apertures for insertion of pins, and these adaptors can not accept an Australian earth pin. This is a requirement of the Australian electrical authorities.

The Australian Electrical Authorities set the Standards for all electrical product safety. If they

determine that a product needs to be able to be earthed, they will require an Australian 3 pin plug. But some countries, e.g. Japan, and some sockets, e.g. Italy/Switzerland non-earthed, do not facilitate an earthed connection. The Australian authorities, therefore absolutely prohibit an adaptor that allows an earthed (3 pin) appliance to connect into a non-earthed 2 pin socket.

We recommend that retail outlets have both the KA EU and KA EU IS in their range, so that you can satisfy all of your travellers to Europe and South America. They may need to take both types of adaptor if they are travelling to multiple countries in Europe.

You can rely on Korjo to have all of our electrical adaptors and appliances fully tested and approved by the Australian electrical authorities to ensure that the products are compliant. Our products carry approval numbers and/or the regulatory compliance mark.

2 pin adaptors – JA 06 and KA EU IS – why can’t someone insert a 3 pin Australian appliance?


All Korjo Adaptors are 100% compliant with Australian Electrical Standards. Please be aware that there are some companies selling non-compliant adaptors. It is important to recognise these as the legal responsibility ultimately falls on the retailer. Be aware of adaptors without approval numbers, without insulated Australian live pins, adaptors that allow pins to overhang the sides or adaptors that allow for three pins to go in, yet have only two coming out – these are all examples of non-compliant plugs.

Important Notes:

Korjo RFID ProtectionMany modern passports and credit cards contain RFID chips containing sensitive personal information. RFID, or Radio Frequency Identification technology, allows scanners to use radio signals at varying distances to read information stored on that chip.

According to a study from academic and business researchers at the University of Massachusetts, many of the cards will transmit your name, credit card number, and expiration date (but not the three-digit security code) in the clear to anyone nearby with a scanner.

To protect you from unwanted people getting access to this data, Korjo’s RFID blocking accessories are designed with state-of-the-art material which blocks out unauthorised transmissions and stops personal information from being accessed by identity thieves.

For example, when you “tap and go” you send your credit card type, credit card number and expiry date etc to the bank. An RFID reader held close to your wallet, purse or handbag can read that data and you would be completely unaware that these important personal details are being taken.

TSA CLTSA Cardlock

No combination to remember, no keys to lose! This clever TSA compliant lock uses a card (1 x credit card size, 1 x keyring size) to unlock. Simply insert the card into the body of the lock to open. Store the card amongst your credit cards (or on your keyring) so that it is secure but available.

Korjo Product Tip TSA Compliant LocksWhen travelling to (or through) the USA, the US Travel Security Administration (TSA) maintains the right to open any case – even if it is locked. This means that normal locks can be cut off, destroying them forever.

The Korjo TSA compliant locks solve this problem – your customers can now travel knowing their luggage is locked and that their lock will not be broken by the TSA if an inspection is needed.

With the Korjo TSA 71, TSA 72, TSA CL and TSA LL, authorised TSA agents can use a secured tool to open the lock, check the case then securely close the lock (without ever learning your combination).

The TSA 72 and TSA LL have the additional feature of an indicator window. This will show green if the lock has not been opened, but will show red if a TSA agent has used the special tool to open the lock. The indicator window can then only be reset by your customer - with their own secret combination or key.

Travellers wish not only to prevent articles being stolen from their luggage – but also to prevent unwanted items being placed into their luggage.

Traditional luggage locks (keyed or combination – see pg 19) help prevent others opening your luggage. You create your own combination or keep your keys safe.

The Korjo TSA Locks allow travellers to lock their luggage when travelling through (or to) the USA (see below for more information).

The Travel Safe Seals (TSS 38) are not a lock, but will seal your luggage compartments with individually coded seals so that you know instantly if somebody has tampered with your luggage.
