BUSINESS excellence and innovation runs in the Moyo
family as evidenced by Chitungwiza Central Hospital's Chief
Executive Officer Dr Obadiah Moyo who is a multiple
award winner and Mrs Lucy Moyo who also walked away
with a prestigious award which was presented to her at a
glitzy ceremony held at a hotel in the capital on 25 Septem-
ber 2017.
Their daughter Ashley is an upcoming young artist
who is talented and her music was a hit internationally.
“I think having a pure heart, generosity, hard work
and being obedient to God’s call made my business a suc-
cess,” said Mrs Moyo.
Mrs Moyo runs a very successful beauty spa and
salon called KADS installed with state of the art equipment
which caters for both females and males. The beauty salon is
located in Mt Pleasant. When the adjudicators of the business awards visit-
ed KADS salon which is part of the Council’s assessment
process of nominated businesses before they come up with
the decision of awarding recipients, there was no doubt that
Mrs Moyo deserved the award.
The guest of honour Minister in Vice President
Mphoko’s office Tabeth Kanengoni Malinga highly com-
mended the winners for running businesses which are help-
ing to revive the Zimbabwean economy.
She said: "I thank you for inviting me to give the
awards. We always read about them.We always appreciated
the work our business community does especially under
such harsh conditions. And still we to take time to celebrate
their success not just big businesses but also small business-
es being run by young people or women and everybody who
is trying to make a mark in Zimbabwe.”
Mrs Moyo was described by people who know
her better as a devoted Christian who also leads a big
prayer group of women in Harare. Their main thrust is
sharing the scriptures which they read a chapter at a
time. When they meet they discuss and have prayer ses-
sions for spiritual guidance including their families.
Indeed Mrs Moyo is that kind of a woman who was de-
scribed in Proverbs 31 verse 13 which says, “She see-
keth wool, and flax, and worketh willingly with her
hands” Harare and Northern Business Awards were
introduced by Mr Enrico Sibanda as a way of celebrat-
ing the success of individuals and companies who have
excelled in their disciplines.
The business awards epitomize the core values
of a successful business leader, strength, innovation,
ingenuity, knowledge and foresight, values that are im-
perative to carving out powerful businesses and organi-
zations in the global economy, spread across various
categories and industry domains.
“We honour leaders who have contributed and
shaped the Zimbabwean economy. Today we salute the
leaders and organisations in Zimbabwe for their contin-
ued commitment to leadership excellence, developing
best practices and innovative strategies, “said awards
chairperson Dr. Enrico Sibanda.
He went on to say that it was important to ap-
preciate the good work done by individuals who work
hard to improve Zimbabwe. Various captains of industry and leaders from
other spheres of influence have been recipients of the
business awards. The awards are presented each year to
personalities, institutions and corporates who, in the
opinion of the Business Council, have made outstanding
contribution to the development of the Zimbabwean
economy.
The ceremony was attended by captains of
industries from both public and private sectors. It was
great honour for Mrs Moyo to be among the high-profile
companies in Zimbabwe.
The ceremony was a joyous occasion which
saw everyone present enjoying and dancing to mu-
sic. The director of ceremony was Vicki Mlilo who
spiced the event with side-splitting jokes in between the
proceedings.
Gospel artist Mudiwa Mutandwa provided
entertainment. He narrated his life and how he eventual-
ly became a holder of a Masters’ degree in Finance but
later realized that his talent was in music and then pur-sued a career in gospel music. He appreciated the degree
he has in accounts in that it helps him in managing his
finances. Mudiwa was also among the winners.
Some of the winners were Herentals College,
Impala Car Hire, Natprint, Cornway College, Daily
News, Nash Paints, Wise Owl college and ZIMDEF.

BEING the watchman of the society is one hard and de-
manding job for a lot of people in the country and the
world at large, but for Chitungwiza Central Hospital
(CCH) security workforce it is not that hard but a daily
routine.
The security guards work during the day and
night on rotational basis. They deal with various work as-
signments that involve interaction with a lot of clients such
as the sick, relatives and members of staff. Some of the
clients become aggressive especially when they are shown
where to park their vehicles or if the security check their
vehicles.
During visiting time they also control number of
visitors who see patients. According to the hospital policy
only two visitors are allowed at time. Misunderstanding
also arises as more visitors will be forcing themselves to
see the patient in numbers.
The almost male dominated department is headed
by Mr. Gilbert Mulembasoja who is the chief security of-
ficer and his deputy Mr Taurai Nyakwava. The main pur-
pose of the department is to protect the hospital premises,
property, patients and staff members.
Mr Mulembasoja started working at the institu-
tion in 2002 as a security guard, was appointed acting se-
curity officer after the death of Mr. Matare. He was the
promoted to the post of chief security in 2017.
“After working in different places around Zimba-
bwe I then decided to venture into another challenging
field which is security but I have come to enjoy it each and
every day,” said Mulembasoja.
Mr. Mulembasoja did his security training at Vi-
sion Security and was awarded a certificate and later on
did a gunner’s course which is mainly focused on training
security officers on how to operate fire arms, which
made him, qualify to be a chief security officer.
The department constitutes of two security
teams which are the hospital internal security and the
external team which was hired to help the hospital secu-
rity team called the Vandrift security. The hospital team
has 18 security guards in which two of them are ladies
and the external team has 21 security guards with the
three of them being ladies also.
The day of security guards starts with the allo-
cation of duties to all officers. Their major check points
around the hospital include the casualty area, admin-
istration, main pharmacy, stores and small and main
gates to minimize thefts. There are people from the
community who were caught by the security guards
stealing drugs, equipment etc.
“The parade basically is about briefing the
whole security team about the current state of affairs
and the major areas which need maximum attention,”
narrated Mr. Mulembasoja.
Ladies are now at parity with their male coun-
terparts proving that women are capable of doing tasks
done by males. The Government of Zimbabwe has put
in place policies which promote the progress of women
in various sectors like business, education and econo-
my. Now we have women who hold male dominated
posts such as pilots, women in mining and truck/ bus
drivers who are women.
“It is sometimes very hard to work as a securi-
ty personnel as a woman especially when you are on
ward duty because sometimes the clients tend to shout
at you during visiting hours but you just have to endure
it because it’s our job,” said one of Vandrift female se-
curity staffer Ms. Nabanda Zangela.
Every job has its challenges speaking to some
of the security guards they said, “We sometimes face
different customers and they are very hard to deal with
especially at the entrance points and the wards during
visiting time but you just have to be firm and calm to
make sure that there isn’t too much chaos caused
around.”
As long as you do your job whole heartedly
even the toughest situation won’t let you down but you
will always be stronger as the day goes by.
The Public Relations Officer has conducted
customer care training to security on how to deal with
difficult clients and minimize conflicts.
