The course will include the following topics:

1. “ Success Drives Changes in Implant Dentistry ”

Today, patients missing one or more teeth have come to expect return to

normal function with excellent aesthetics in an accelerated timeline.

The application of nanotechnology has resulted in a new surface that

enhances osseointegration at early time points.

Preclinical data and clinical trials will be presented. The advantages of using

of NanotiteTM Implants in various clinical situations will be demonstrated.

2. “ Interdisciplinary Management of Complex dental implant Cases ”

More and more partially edentulous patients demand implant treatment.

Evaluation and improvement of the periodontal conditions of the remaining

dentition is a prerequisite.

With implants as the possible restorative alternative in mind, dentists may

want to reconsider retention of teeth with questionable prognosis.

After completion of the periodontal therapy, future implant sites are often

compromised by adjacent tooth mal-position and/or inter-arch occlusal

mal-relationships.

From a mainly surgical driven concept in the edentulous patient, there

is a shift into a prosthodontic driven concept in the partially edentulous

patients.

A team of multi-disciplinary specialists or dentists should have a common

vision of the final goal in the formulation of treatment plan.

Careful planning and good coordination between members of a team that

have consensus over the best overall treatment plan and the commitment to

achieve the goal is vitally important for success.

3. “New Opportunities for Immediate implant Placement in Aesthetic

Zone: the Importance of Hard and Soft Tissue Preservation”

Following extraction of a single tooth, marked hard and soft tissue

alteration will take place as a result of which the aesthetic outcomes may

be compromised.

Immediate implant placement has been advocated to minimize loss of these

tissues following extraction and to predictably maintain their architecture

and achieve aesthetic restorations.

The literature shows cumulative success rate with immediate placed

implants into fresh extraction sockets that do not differ significantly from

delayed implant placement.

This suggests that it is a viable and predictable treatment option. However,

care must be taken when placing implants in fresh extraction sockets at the

aesthetic zone

A protocol should include careful analysis of biomechanical factors and

surgical implant techniques to ensure firm primary stability. Initial results

of the application of implants with a novel surface that facilitates more rapid

bone formation will be presented.

A new concept for controlling postoperative crestal bone level achieving

better soft tissue harmony will be presented.

Biography :

Dr. Goené studied dentistry at the University of Amsterdam, the Netherlands. He maintained a private general

group practice of which he was one of the founding members from 1975 through 1993. His interest in the

supporting tissues of the teeth was not only the reason to become a specialist in Periodontology but also, with

others, to found the Clinic for Periodontology in Amsterdam, where patients are referred for both periodontal

problems as well as for oral rehabilitation with dental implants. During the past 10 years Dr. Goené has focused on

interdisciplinary treatment strategies for the more complex partial cases. He has served as a member of the board

of the Dutch Society of Periodontology(1979-1990) and has been a member of the board of the Dutch Society

of Oral Implantology since 1995. At the moment he is president of this Society. At present Ronnie J. Goené is

Associate Professor at the Academic Centre of Dentistry of the University of Amsterdam, Department of Oral &

Maxillofacial Surgery, VU Medical Center and has published significantly in professional journals on the subjects

of periodontology and implantology. He has also lectured extensively (inter)nationally on implants and associated

subjects.
