A- Authorized Organizations are divided into Three Categories: FirstCategory:Thiscategoryincludestheorganizationsthatareallowedtoprovidealltypesofactivitiessuchasmajorconferences,symposia,seminars,trainingcourses,specializedworkshopsinadditiontointernalactivitieslikelectures,seminarsandgeneralworkshopsaccordingtotherulesandregulationsofNHRAandcanawardthemaximumnumberof30credithours.Thefollowingorganizationsarerecognizedinthiscategory:1- ScientificHealthSocieties2- Medical&HealthCollegesatgovernmentalandprivateuniversities3- GovernmentalHealthcarefacilities&Hospitals4- Authorizedlicensedtrainingcenters5- Exhibition&ConferenceorganizingcompaniesSecondCategory:Thiscategoryincludesgeneralandspecializedprivatehospitals.Thesehospitalscanofferlectures,symposiaandworkshopsandcanawardamaximumof20credithoursforasingleactivityinadditiontotheirinternalactivities.ThosehospitalsmayalsohavetheopportunitytoparticipateinorganizingactivitiestogainmorecredithourssuchasthemajorconferencesandsymposiainconjunctionwithScientificHealthSocieties,HealthCollegesatuniversitiesandSpecialistHospitalsinaccordancewithNHRA’srulesandregulations.

• Theacceptedannuallywebsiteactivitiesshallnotexceed:o Five(05) hoursforphysicians/dentistso Four(04) hoursforpharmacistso Three(03)hoursfornurseso Two(02) hoursforAlliedhealthprofessionals

G.Readingactivities• ReadingArticle:Thehealthcareprofessionalshallmakeastatementinwhichhe/shestatesthescientific

materialthathe/sheusedasreferencesandpresentedtohis/hercolleagues.H.PublishingScientificPapers,BookandChapterinBook• PublishingScientificPapersShallbecountedasfollows(providedthatcopiesofscientificpapersare

• 5 hours shall be counted for to conduct medical audit and/or accreditation process for the firstauditor/surveyor/teamleader.

• 3 hours for the rest of the auditors involved in the implementation of the audit/accreditationprocess.

• Halfofthetotalcalculatedhourswillbecalculatedformedicalaudit/accreditationworkshopsasthisisconsideredasageneralratherthanaspecializedworkshop.

J-UnaccreditedActivitiesNHRAcannotaccredit:

1-Anyactivitythatis,hasbeen,oriscurrentlyconductedwithouttheapprovalofNHRA.2-Anyactivitywherebythepresenterofthespecificactivitydemonstratesapoorunderstandingofthesubjectand/orhasinsufficientqualificationsforthatsubjectmatter.3-Iftheactivityorscientificsubjectisprovidedbysomeonewithoutahealthprofessionbackgroundorifprovidedbyanunlicensedorganization.

4-Educationalactivitiesthataredirectedtothemembersofthepublicandhavenodirectrelationtothehealthfield.5-ThePreparatoryTestProgramsforSaudi,ArabboardoranyotherFellowshiporboardexam.

6- Theactivitiesthattaketheformofmultiplechoicequestions(MCQS).

credithoursattendedbythehealthcareprofessionalshouldbespecified.9- TherecommendationistousethecertificatetemplatesalreadydesignedandproposedbyNHRAthat

enclosed NHRA and organizer logos only, which are available electronically and can be sent to theorganizersbeforehand.ThismustbefilledoutinEnglish.

10- TheorganizationmustadheretotheprovisionoftheactivitiesapprovedbyNHRAonly.11- Theorganizationmustadheretoalltheconditionsandguidelinessetoutinthisregulation.12- Institutions that do not comply with the standards and requirements of NHRA will risk losing their

approvalstatus.B-Websites: 1. Thewebsitecreatorswhopresenttheactivityshouldbeaspecializedacademicorhasapostgraduate

degree in the fieldof thescientific topicbeingpresented.His rankshouldnotbe less thanassistantprofessororconsultantinthefieldofspecialtyandhisCurriculumVitaeshouldbepublished.

2. Thewebsitemustbeownedbytheauthorand/ororganization.3. Tobeaninteractivesitethroughwhichcommunicationbetweentheserviceproviderandrecipientis

achieved.4. There must be a supervisor responsible for the site and there has to be a clear mechanism to

communicatewithhim.

5. Customizingcomputercentercontainsqualifiedhumanresourcesandtechnicalequipment,softwareandtechnicalsupport.

6. Provideparticipantswithcontractsfromlecturersandtechnicians.7. Defineclearproceduresforadmissionandregistrationinthesystem.8. Organization should demonstrate an evaluation mechanism that proves presence of benefit to the

candidatefrome-learningactivityaftercompletion.9. ClarifythemaximumallowedCPDcredithourseachyearforeachhealthcareprofessionalaccordingly

onthewebsite.10. Thescientificmaterialshallbedirectlyrelatedtohealthorhealthservicesandshalldependonthemost

ArticleSixApplicationprocedureforapprovalofCPDactivities

A- TheAuthorizedOrganizations:1- Organizations requesting NHRA approval for CPD activities must fill out an application form

(availableontheNHRAwebsite:www.nhra.bh)

2- [email protected] OrganizationsshouldhaveaCPDCommittee/Coordinator/DepartmenttoconductCPDwithinthe

organization.4- TheactivityshallbepresentedinEnglishandshallbeinclearscientificlanguagewithclearlystated

goalsandtargetcategory.5- TheapplicationshouldbesubmittedelectronicallytoNHRAasperthetimelinesmentionedbelow

inordertoavoidautomaticrejection:6-

• Conference:six(6)monthsbeforethedateofconduct.• Workshopsandcourses:three(3)monthsbeforethedateofconduct.• Lectureorothereducationalactivities:two(2)beforethedateofconduct.

7- Internal activities shall only be provided for one calendar year. The complete activity shall bepresented for approval before the end of the year; and it shall not be implemented for anysubsequentyearsunlessanewapplicationforapprovalismadetoNHRA.

8- Organizationmustmakeaclearindicationintheapplicationformiftheactivityistobeconductedmorethanonceduringtheyear.Thedateandvenueoftherecurringactivityshallbespecified.Feeswillbecalculatedonceforrecurringactivities(providedtheydonotexceed12timesperyear).

9- Nonewapplicationswillbeacceptedorconsideredforthesameorganizeruntiladecisionismaderegardinganycurrentapplicationsfromthesameorganizerandanypendingfeeshavebeensettled.

10- Theorganizationshallabidebycarryingouttheactivityinthespecifiedtimeandvenue.Theactivitycanonlybere-directed,postponedorcancelledaftertheNHRAisnotifiedatleasttwoweeksbeforetheactivitytakesplace.

11- Allfeesmustbepaidpriortostartofanyactivity(seeArticleNo.9ofthisregulation).B-Websites: 1- SubmitanapplicationformtotheCPDCommitteeatNHRA.2- FilltheapplicationforCPDapprovalwiththeallrequiredinformationregardingtheactivitysupported

byappendices,referencesthatdemonstrateelementssuchasthecompetenciesofthespeakers,thecontentoftheactivities,andprogramsschedule.

3- Websitelicenseswillbegrantedforoneyearonly.OrganizationshallapplyforanewapprovaleveryyearandbesubjectedtoreassessmentofactivatesbyCPDCommittee.

4- Organization must provide a user name and password for all members of the CPD Committee forcontinuedassessmentofthescientificcontentofthewebsite.

5- Theaccreditationfeesmustbepaidandacopyofthedepositbondorelectronictransferthroughthesystemmustbeenclosed.


ArticleSevenTheCriteriaforCalculatingtheCreditHours

TheContinuingProfessionalDevelopmentCommitteeshallstudytheactivitiesaccordingtospecialtyanditmayseekthehelpofascientificcommitteeifnecessaryforthepurposeofevaluation.Calculatingthecredithoursshallbedoneinthefollowingway:First:tocalculateonlyhalfhour1. Appliedsurgeries2. General workshops not within medical/ dental fields such as presenting: health care management,

hospitalaccreditation,audit,communicationskills,andleadership,...etc.)3. Seminarsfortheconsultants/medicalconsultantdiscussion4. Videopresentation5. ClinicalCasespresentation6. Individualtrainingfortrainer7. Electroniclearning:eachonehourscientificmateriallearntthroughtheelectronicwebsitesisequated

ashalfCPDhour.8. Other health professionals than dentists will consider this hands on activity half hour otherwise its

adviseddifferentlybyCPDCommittee.

Second:tocalculateonlyoneeducationalhourCPD Committee reviews all applications and might seek assistance from professional scientific bodyregardingscientificcontent,ifnecessarytimeiscalculatedasfollows:

1- Themaximumnumberofcredithoursforalecture,seminar,andorspecializedworkshopshallbeonehourevenifthelectureperiodexceedsthattime.

2- Themaximumnumbersofhoursofanycontinuingprofessionaldevelopmentactivityis30hours.3- Evidence-basedmedicineandmethodsofscientificresearchshallbecountedasonehouragainstone

teachinghour.4- DentistshandsonactivitywillbeconsideredonehourunlessadviseddifferentlybyCPDCommittee.Third:activitiesnoteligibleforeducationalcredithoursThefollowingactivitiesdonotcounttowardseducationalcredithours:

educationalactivities1. Beforeestablishingadateforconferences,workshops, trainingcourses&othermedicaleducational

activities, please review approved conferences and reserve through the electronic websites of CPD-NHRAbyselectingtheappropriatetimeforanyoftheabovementionedactivity.

2. Anyorganizationwishingtoprovideasimilarscientificactivityinthesamecitymustensurethatthereisaminimumperiodofthree(03)monthsbetweenconferences,workshops,trainingcourses&othermedicaleducationalactivitiesfromthesamespecialtyarea.

3. Theinitialapprovalformmustspecifythetype,title,proposeddateandvenueoftheactivitywiththee-mailaddressforfacilitationofthosewhointendtoparticipateorattend.

4. Theinitialapprovalshallbesentthroughtheorganization'sofficiale-mailaddress,whichisapprovedbytheNHRA.

ArticleFourteenGeneralInstructions

1.NHRAhastherighttoaccreditactivitieswiththenumberofhoursitdeemsappropriateandmaynotnecessarilyapprovethenumberofsuggestedhoursbytheorganizer.2. NHRA has the right to refuse any incomplete applications; applications that are submitted after thesuggestedapplicationtimeframeforeachactivitymentionedearlier,applicationsmadeduringorafterthecompletionoftheactivity,orapplicationwithweakinvalidscientificmaterial.3.NoannouncementshallbemadeaboutanyactivityexceptafterithasbeenapprovedbyNHRA.4. NHRA is only responsible for approving the activity itself and will not communicate with any otherauthoritiesregardinganyotheraspectoftheactivitysuchasthebookingofthevenueorapplicationsforvisitpermitsforthespeakers.5.NHRAhastherighttocancelanygrantedCPDapprovalshouldtherebeabreachfromtheorganizer’sperspectiveregardingwhathasbeenstipulatedwithintheExecutiveRule.
