Positive Interdependence = you cannot complete task alone
Individual Accountability = you have to learn the task
Face to Face Interaction = discuss/work close together
Social Skills = the behaviour expectations
Group Processing = assessing your contribution & understanding

Cooperative Learning
Activity 1 “Think Pair Share”
Academic Task : I Can Practice Mental & Non- Calculator Questions
Social Skills : To Use Quiet VoicesTo Reach Consensus
Cooperative Learning
Activity 1 “Think Pair Share”
Everyone Works In “Pairs or Trios” :
• Teacher reads out each question twice
• Person 1 writes down their answer to the question
• Person 2 writes down their answer if different
• Quietly, pupils agree on the correct answer
• On the teacher’s signal all teams show their answer
• To encourage correct responses could give 2nd chance
• Now person 2 is first to write their answer (& so on)
Cooperative Learning
Activity 1 “Think Pair Share”
Draw a 2D composite shape
with 2 lines of symmetry?
Write down a “2 stage”
calculation with the answer 18?
OR

Activity 1 “Think Pair Share”
“An Even Function is symmetrical about the y-axis”
Draw a sketch of an even function
Clue : Trig Graph, Quadratic, Adv Higher Functions!!!!!
Cooperative Learning
Activity 1 “Think Pair Share”
Clue : Think of Pythagorean Triples!
Explain why 5 Km is needed to calculate the perimeter of this triangular enclosure
Answer = 6 + 5 + 5 = 16 Km
Cooperative Learning
Activity 1 “Think Pair Share”
Is the derivative of sin (x)
equal to cos (x) or - cos (x) ?
Is the answer to -3 + (-4)
equal to 1 or (-7) ?
OR

Activity 1 “Think Pair Share”
What is the gradient of the tangent to the curve, y = x2 + 2x – 4, at x = 3
A. 6 B. 11 C. 8 D. 4
Answer = 2 x 3 + 2 = 8, C.
Clue : gradient = m = dy/dx

Activity 2 - “Stand and Deliver”
Academic Task : I Can Choose The Correct Number To
Multiply Each Equation By So That All The
Fractions Disappear
Social Skills : To Take Turns& To Support Each Other
Cooperative Learning
Activity 2 - “Stand and Deliver” (Explanation)
• Team members all stand and take turns choosing the correct number to multiply by
• When all team members are confident with the task, then all members can sit back down
• Sitting down indicates to the teacher that all members have achieved the task
• The teacher can now call upon any member of any team to share what they have learned with the whole class

Social Skills : To Reach ConsensusTo Check For Understanding
Cooperative Learning
• Work with your Partner to solve the first equation
• Share your solution with another Pair (as instructed)
• As a Team of 4, agree on the best solution
• Write down the best solution in your jotter (amend or change your present solution)
• Take turns to post your agreed solution (as instructed)
• Take turns to compare your solutions with others
