COPPER PRINCE CLAIMS, FALCONBRIDGE TOWNSHIP
1991 OPAP Program S Results
PROGRAM'FALCONBRDGE 010
The 1991 program was designed to trench and sample three
areas in order to follow-up surface and old borehole in
dications of copper/nickel/gold and cobalt/gold mineral
izations. The Main Pit Zone (S 52306) extensions both east
and west of the Main Pit, and the area of old drilling and
surface sampling in the East Zone were planned for trench
ing and sampling (S 51303). An occurrence of cobalt/gold in
the Southeast Zone (S 56016) was resampled.
WORK COMPLETED S, RESULTS
East Zone Trenches l (10 x 3 m) and 2 (15 x 3 m) were
excavated to about 5 feet below surface in an area of surface
and shallow borehole mineralization which indicated copper/
gold values to be associated with chalcopyrite and small
quartz veins and blowouts. One m chip sampling of a 5 m
section of Trench l assayed 1.10 It Cu and 0.012 oz Au/T.
Aim chip sample of Trench 2 assayed 0.79 % Cu and 0.004
oz. Au/T. Grab samples from Trench l assayed up to 6.74 %
Cu and 0.35 oz Au/T while grab samples from Trench 2 assayed
up to 1.95 % Cu and 0.029 oz Au/T. A grab sample from a near-
bX old pit assayed 0.05 % Cu and 0.71 oz Au/T. There is a
trace of Pt in all of the samples from this area.
Main Pit Zone Trenches 3 (14 x 3 m), 4 (12 x 2 m), and 5
(12 x 2 m) were excavated into rusty shear zones east and
west of the Main Pit occurrence, which is a small massive
sulphide lense within a shear zone and assaying up to 6..9 %
Cu, 0.17 % Ni, and 0.45 oz Au/T. Old trench 3A was also
resampled.
- 2 -
Trench 3, located 30 m east of the Main Pit, sampled an area
of weak sulphide mineralization in sheared quartzite. Grab
samples assayed up to 7.45 % Cu, weak Ni, and 0.17 oz Au/T.
Nearby old Trench 3A was resampled and grab samples assayed
up to 8.35 % Cu, 0.08 * Ni, and 0.14 oz Au/T.
Trench 4, located 125 m west of the Main Pit,contained weak
pyrite mineralization in sheared quartzite and assayed up to
0.09 % Cu, weak Ni, and 0.07 oz Au/T from grab samples.
Trench 5, located 135 feet west of the Main Pit and just uphill
from Trench 4, assayed 0.05 % Cu and 0.03 oz Au/T from a grab
sample from identical mineralization to Trench 4.
Southeast Zone Resampling of old pits and trenches on the south
claims of the property identified aim tension vein of quartz
and associated gabbro alteration striking almost at right angles
to the gabbro contact. Coarse grained cobaltite is present and grab samples assayed up to 0.55 % Cu, 0.88 % Ni, 3.26 % Co,
0.12 oz Ag/T, 0.74 oz Au/T, and traces of Pt and Pd.
SIGNIFICANT RESULTS
The sampling from Trenches 3, 4 and 5 extended the Main Pit
Zone to 165 m in length and indicated anomalous and interest
ing Cu, Ni, Au, and Pt values in both pyritic and pyrrhotitic
sulphides found in a sheared and brecciated quartzite. The
shearing is discordant to the sediments and strikes 080 de
grees. Trenches l and 2 illustrate -the irregular nature of the
surface chalcopyrite mineralization in the East Zone and confirm
the direct association of the gold with the copper. Other ad
jacent chalcopyrite mineralization, though apparently unconnect
ed with the trenches, is of the same caliber. Sampling of the
Southeast Zone illustrates an occurrence of gabbroic sulphides
which may be associated with the adjacent Manchester Offset.
- 3 -
RECOMMENDATIONS
The widespread Cu/Ni/Au values of the major shear zone in the*
centre of the property indicate the possibility of potential
at depth and drilling will be required to test this thesis.
Additional stripping and trenching of the Co/Au/Pt Southeast
Zone will be required before any shallow drilling could be
contemplated.
