Brief & ResearchThe brief is to come up with a design or proposal for an anti-piracy campaign. It needs to encourage the audience and help them understand the importance of respecting copyright, maintaining a pro-copyright attitude rather than that of anti-piracy.

I thought that the best way for me to start this brief was to look at copyright, get peoples views on copyright, look at campaign posters and pro-copyright and anti-piracy works. Research on copyright helped me to understand the importance of copyright and the impact it has on people in the film industry.

Looking at campaign posters showed that there is a significant difference in pro-copyright and anti-piracy campaigns. There I more dramatic and negative conventions in anti-piracy campaigns which is not what my campaign is about.

Moments worth paying for These adverts shown in cinemas and online, celebrate the value and support of its paying consumers. It takes an emotional approach on the act, in a positive light.

Anti-piracy: FINGER 2007By F/nazca Saatchi&saatchiThis anti-piracy poster uses the shock factor to get the attention of its audience, it does not persuade the consumer.

Movie Piracy - It’s a crime, by the Australian government.Another negative campaign, referring to piracy as steeling.

PlanningI took inspiration from some of the contemporary popular young dramas. The intensity and sincerity of films such as 4.3.2.1, Kidulthood, Adulthood, Top Boy and Bullet Boy was something I wanted to incorporate into my final proposal.

ProposalMy proposal is for a short film that can be performed as play for a more intimate and intense connection with the audience. There will also be a film website with features such as anti-piracy competitions and chat for the audience to talk about the issue of piracy.

The short film follows the life of an aspiring screenwriter that learns about copyright but doesn’t let that get in the way of his passion for film.
