With Kindergarten through 8th grade in one school, CKCS is able to offer flexible based learning groups, taught using the Core Knowledge® Sequence for Content Guidelines, creating literate students prepared for a lifetime of learning. e Verona Area School District (VASD) is working with all district schools to ensure that: •Every student has a personalized learning plan that provides a path to discovery and achievement and that plan is re- viewed and changed at least annually based on the student’s needs •Every student’s parent, guardian or advocate participates directly in the design, implementation, and outcomes of that student’s personalized learning plans •Every student meets or exceeds personalized learning plan goals every school year •Every Verona Area High School student graduates •Every graduate achieves their choice of college and career path @CKCS_VASD

•The Charter School was started by parents and educators in 1996 in order to use Core Knowledge® Curriculum•Parents play an extremely high level role in day-to-day operations•Since 1996, students have consistently demonstrated strong levels of proficiency in reading, science and social studies. (WKCE 1996 – Present)•The Core Virtues Program (1996) and the Service Learning Program implemented in 2011 develop civic responsibility and strengthen community connections. (Both complement Daggett’s Rigor & Relevance Framework, quadrant D.)•“CKCS is one of the longest lasting and most successful Direct Instruction schools in the state.” – 2012 National Foundation of Direct Instruction•The Core Knowledge® Curriculum is a cohesive, sequential knowledge base of: History, Geography, Science Arts, Literature, Art, Com-puter Skills, Music, Math, and Language Arts all taught using the Core Knowledge® Sequence for Content Guidelines for grade Kinder-garten through 8th•The well sequenced and structured curriculum creates literate students prepared for a lifetime of learning (1987, E.D. Hirsch Culture Literacy)•In K-5 and on, Direct Instruction is the primary method of teaching reading, spelling, language and math•Teacher-modeled, student-mastered skills and strategies build competence and confidence as students advance•A high level of student involvement and mastery on each step is built into the learning process
