SECTION 2: MAIN IDEAS

1. For Interviews, write the questions asked

2. For Lectures, Reports, & Discussions, write key words or phrases that sum up main points

3. For Narratives, write the major themes

SECTION 3: DETAILS/SUPPORT

1. Separate details/supporting ideas in point form

2. Link them to the Main Ideas they support Results of a Study Pros and Cons Cause and Effect Speaker A / Speaker B / etc.

3. Use abbreviations, short phrases, symbols, diagrams, and sketches.

4. Do not write complete sentences!

5. Do not write a list of words you do not understand!

6. Write what you do understand!

SECTION 4: SUMMARY

1. Write a paragraph in your own words that summarizes the information.

2. State what you have learned from the Interview, Lecture, Report, Discussion, or Narrative.

3. The summary should answer the question: “What have I learned from listening to this segment?”
