Corpus Christi Parish Mission Statement
We, the Catholic Community of Corpus Christi, are called to continue the work and
teachings set forth by Jesus Christ. We are committed to make the Eucharist the
center of our lives by celebrating it joyfully and meaningfully as a community, to
grow as an involved and loving community, to preserve church and family traditions,
to provide a Catholic education and opportunities for spiritual growth to all age
groups, and to reach out to those in need.
As a parish, we dedicate ourselves to live out our faith through service where each
member shares with others the gifts and talents received from God.
Father Paul’s Reflections on the Readings
20th Sunday in Ordinary Time
I am here reminded of the lines written by a Polish girl. She was suffering in a concentration camp of the Nazi regime. With her own blood and using her own overgrown finger-nails, she wrote on the wall of her dark prison. “I believe in the sun, even when it is not shinning; I believe in love, even when I do not feel it; I believe in God, even when he is silent”.
A Canaanite woman is desperate because her daughter is seriously ill and so she takes the chance of coming to this stranger, Jesus, for help. “Have pity on me, Lord, Son of David! My daughter is tormented by a demon.” To her request for heal-ing her daughter, Jesus answered very rashly say-ing, “can we take children’s bread and throw it to the dogs”. Her faith is so strong that indifference, rejection and apparent ridicule will not swerve her from her need to have her daughter cured by Jesus. “O woman, great is your faith!
Our own experience too perhaps is that God is si-lent and gives us the cold shoulder in response to our prayer. What is our response? Don ’t we often give up quite easily? Do we sometimes turn to some other solution to our problem, when God does not answer our prayer quickly? Today we are exhorted to grow in faith especially when we are put to the test. Only then will we hear those words of Jesus: "Great is your faith! Let it be done as you wish."
God called Abraham not because of his great an-cestry or even his good works, rather on account of his faith. The woman trusts in Jesus in the depth of her heart and surrender herself to His mercy. Faith presupposes trust and surrender and this is what the woman so beautifully demonstrates. Faith will not always get for us what we want, but it will get us what God wants us to have.

Twentieth Sunday In Ordinary Time August 16, 2020
Dear CCS Friends and Family:
During these uncertain times, we are asking you to consider making a gift to our Caring Crusader Campaign, which
will help as we prepare for the upcoming school year. Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, we are busy making up-
grades to keep our students and teachers safe and healthy.
We are also planning for scenarios that may be difficult to face, including:
· Students who need additional financial assistance to return due to loss of household income
· Increased school expenses due to the need for PPE and sanitization products
· Additional cleaning procedures
· Need for operating assistance to offset potential income losses
A gift to this campaign will help with all the above scenarios and instill confidence that CCS will overcome this
pandemic together! We have secured a generous pledge of $7,500.
Our overall goal for this campaign is to raise $25,000 by September 8, when school is set to resume. So please
consider helping us to achieve that goal on a quick deadline!
As a private school, we always rely on our generous donors to help us with annual operating costs. Now, we do
more than ever. Please consider a donation of any amount! All gifts will help us achieve our goal and most im-
portantly help us continue to provide a quality, Catholic education during this unprecedented time.
When you support this campaign you have an immediate, tangible impact on our students and help our school
remain strong. We appreciate your time and consideration as we overcome this difficult setback due to COVID-19.
If you would like to make a gift to the "Caring Crusader Campaign", please return your check with the enclosed
pledge card or visit our secure website corpuschristiwheeling.com/giving/ . If you have questions, please call 304-
830-1572.
Thank you for your meaningful support of Corpus Christi School!

Rising Above: From Tragedy to Triumph is the courageous story of
John O'Leary who when 9 years old was involved in a horrific inci-
dent and was given only a 1% chance to survive. Today, nearly
three decades later, he travels the world teaching others how to
truly live. He draws on his life's experience to intimately illustrate
how God often uses our greatest challenges to positively trans-
