I love teaching smaller class sizes as it allows me to better meet each of my student’s needs. I’ve embraced a teaching approach in each of my classes that is based on both Philippians 4:13- “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me”- and Colossians 3:23- “And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not unto men.” My goal is for each of my middle school students to have a comprehensive understanding of Algebra I and the confidence to pursue high school mathematics and beyond. Serving God in a Christian school alongside teachers and administration who truly love Jesus is such a blessing. Showing our students Christ’s love on a daily basis is a privilege that I’m forever grateful for. [(3 + 2) × (6 − 4) + 2] × 4

HEADMASTER’S NOTE

How amazing it is to consider that we are already half-way through the 2019-2020 school year. I am sure you can agree that time is certainly moving by quickly. It has been a fantastic year at CCA, and I wanted to utilize this article to highlight some of the achievements, upgrades and improvements that have occurred over the first half of the year.

We re-enrolled approximately 95% of our students from the 2018-2019 school year, the highest re-enrollment rate in recent years.

Enrollment increased by approximately 5% this year, with our current student enrollment at 129, the highest total in the last three years.

The top half of our graduating class of 2020 had an average SAT score of 1210, which places them above approximately 80% of typical test participants throughout the country.

CCA’s girls varsity volleyball team became the first team in school history to make the MIAA state tournament.

The involvement in our Jr. /Sr. high drama program has increased dramatically, with our current enrollment number at 41, the highest total in the history of the school.

We currently have 12 students involved in our chapel worship team and sound ministry, the highest level of participation in the history of the school.

Our lighting system has been updated with new energy efficient fixtures throughout almost the entirety of the building, including the gym, classrooms, hallways and offices.

Our corridor chair rail installation and painting project will be completed within days. In addition to these specific items, we are so blessed as we see an increase in the number of people praying for the school, supporting the work here and following us on various social media platforms. GUIDANCE UPDATE

TENTH GRADE Tenth Grade College Information

Mr. Hanley, Guidance Counselor, recently provided a magazine containing Christian college profiles to the tenth grade class to get them to begin thinking about their futures. “Two years goes very quickly, so the sophomores should begin contemplating what they may want to do.” If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Mr. Hanley.

ELEVENTH GRADE SAT® and ACT® Test Information

As the Junior Class heads into the second half of the school year, the focus, besides their academics, is on taking the SAT® test. Ideally, we would like to see students take the SAT® test twice in their junior year with them taking the SAT® again early in their senior year enabling them the opportunity to increase their score. In addition, SAT® Subject tests are also an option. SAT® Subject tests are standardized tests specialized for specific subjects, such as, Spanish, Biology and U.S. History. These scores are a useful tool for those students seeking admission to a specific college looking for that extra edge in a subject that they may major or minor in. Be aware that tests dates for SAT®Subject testing are only offered a few times throughout the year. For those students who may struggle with Math, the ACT® test may be an option. On the SAT® test, Math is two of the 4 sections or 50% of the test grade, whereas on the ACT® test, Math is one of the 4 sections or 25% of the test grade.

TWELVTH GRADE Senior Class Update

The Senior Class have all finished and submitted their college applications. While some students have received acceptances and committed to their college choices, some are waiting for letters of acceptance, so they can make their decisions. A few are researching other career paths.

ELEMENTARY ART

Beginning February 6, Student Council will be selling ice cream every Thursday during lunch for $1.00 each. Funds raised will go towards events organized by the Student Council.

Seventh-Graders Write and Create a Story Book with the First-Graders

Ms. Sharon Burke’s seventh-grade English class paired up with the first-graders writing and creating a storybook with their first-grade buddy as the main character. Specific requirements in creating the books included 12 paragraphs (12 book pages) and incorporating the first-graders’ likes and interests. “The seventh-graders continually edited their drafts, worked on additional dialogue, detail and conflict, which are all elements of a good story.” (Ms. Burke) The seventh graders then read their completed stories to their first grade buddies.

Creation Science Students Delve into the Topic of Evolution and Creation by Design of God

Per Mr. Hanley, “CCA Middle School students have learned a lot in this year’s Creation Science class delving deep into the Bible’s account of creation and learning what Evolutionists teach of what happened at the beginning.” Topics discussed included Natural Selection and how evolutionists use it versus how we see it work in real life. Influential names, on both the creation side and evolution side, studied are Charles Darwin and William Paley. In-depth study of two of the leading evolutionary theories of the beginning, the big bang and the big bounce, as compared to creation by Design of God was examined. How dinosaurs can fit in with the Bible without compromising its integrity was also discussed. Students were also put into groups and were assigned an article/articles about an animal from Answers in Genesis. These articles discuss how each animal is uniquely designed. Adding a new dynamic to the class, the following week the students took on the role of teachers and taught their info on their animal to the class. Creation Science students have moved on from here to studying The Scopes Trial. – Mr. Hanley

ELEMENTARY BASKETBALL With so many students interested in basketball, CCA has two teams again this season. Coached by Mr. Hanley and Mrs. Babineau, newer players are learning the rules of the game and basic skills such as, basketball stance for balance, the proper way to hold and dribble the ball, shooting skills, passing the ball, offensive strategies and defensive strategies. Return players are building on their existing skills and are great mentors to the new players. With the commitment and guidance of our coaches, the Elementary Basketball program is a success. As one new player exclaimed, “I think I’ve finally found my sport!”

BOYS MIDDLE SCHOOL BASKETBALL The Boys Middle School team, coached by Mr. Hanlon and Mr. Hanley, are 3-2 to date winning twice against First Baptist and once against Grace Baptist. This CCA team practices hard and plays with passion. GO COUGARS!
