Love was well and truly in the air today as staff from Mid and East AntrimBorough Council donned their wellies and showed just how much they carefor the environment by planting trees as part of a Team Building Day!
The #MEA4TREES initiative, which is being undertaken by Council and theWoodland Trust, was launched in November 2019 and pledges that 56,000native trees – one for every household in the borough – will be planted overthe next five years.
Staff from Council’s Corporate Services Directorate chose Valentine’s Day toshare their love for the project and make a positive contribution to improvingair quality and protecting the local environment for generations to come.
The trees were planted at the Ecos Centre, which is home to around 220acres of parkland on the outskirts of Ballymena, and include a variety ofnative species.
Council also supports the ‘One Million Trees in One Day’ initiative, which is across-border programme working to establish young, native trees across theRepublic of Ireland and Northern Ireland.
The aim of the scheme is to provide simple ways for landowners to accessquality native tree mixes and foster tree cover and woodland in rural andurban areas.
