~Jim McKee – Fiesta NMDA: Celebrate Oral Health – Speaker Thursday - 6/7/18 - 9a-12p Treatment Planning for Increased Case Acceptance 235/Mesilla 3 Lecture

COURSE DESCRIPTION: Creating a well sequenced treatment plan can be a challenge depending on the difficulty of the treatment involved and the unique circumstances for each patient. The key to increased case acceptance is the ability to develop a treatment plan that can address the concerns of both the patient and the dentist. The key to a successful treatment plan is the new patient examination. If a dentist can recognize problems caused by either bacteria or bite forces and can communicate the

solution to these problems clearly, the patient will accept the treatment plan in the majority of cases. This presentation will address the key areas of the new patient exam as well as the diagnostic records and consultation appointment.

OBJECTIVES: Special emphasis will be given to:

• Creating an organized new patient exam that allows you to understand both the clinical and managerial aspects of treatment planning

• Understanding what diagnostic information is needed for each patient and how to develop a logical treatment planning protocol for each patient in your practice

• Reviewing case studies ranging from simple to complex

Thursday - 6/7/18 - 2p-5p A New Perspective on Occlusion and TMD 235/Mesilla 3 Lecture COURSE DESCRIPTION: We are fortunate we can offer predictable treatment outcomes for many of the occlusal and TM joint problems that are so common for many of our patients. The first step in predictable treatment outcomes is specifically diagnosing the condition of the anatomy we are treating. By expanding our vision from the teeth to include the TM joints, we finally have answers why some patients have malocclusions, why some patients have pain and why some patients have both. As both a specialist and a restorative dentist, the key to success in many cases is managing the forces generated both at the tooth level and at the TM joint level. Some new perspectives on occlusion and TMD will add to proven concepts and help solve many of the problems that have confused our profession for years. In addition, the practical concepts of practice management, third party reimbursement and case acceptance will be discussed throughout the program leading to an increased ability to implement the concepts discussed. The incidence of occlusal and TMD problems as well as the early onset of these problems are greatly underestimated by our profession. The information in this program will help patients have the ability to make better decisions about different treatment options resulting in an increased level of predictability.

OBJECTIVES: • Recognize high risk occlusion and TM joint patient when considering restorative dentistry, implant dentistry,

orthodontics, orthognathic surgery or airway treatment

• Learn new concepts in occlusion/TMD diagnosis and treatment and learn what historical occlusal/TMD concepts need to be re-evaluated

• Develop an occlusion/TMD treatment planning protocol that can be used on for predictable treatment outcomes on both low risk and high-risk patients
