Objectives To find the frequencies of a bent-pile system using

SAP2000

To see the mode shapes of the system in SAP2000

Motivation As a graduate student I have found my research interest in

earthquake engineering

Currently, I am working on the investigation of I-55, US 78 bridges (a MEMA Project) to see the adequacy of structural soundness during an earthquake of around 7.0 moment magnitude

This presentation is a part of that project which satisfies both my course requirement and research goal

Conclusions The mode shapes showed large compression and

tension in the pile cap. In reality this is too stiff to be compressed or stretched like that.

The analysis is done in 2D whereas it should be done in 3D.
