I hope you are all well and enjoying the sun when it shines! This has been the first week when we have been able to welcome more pupils into school. It has been lovely to see them and to feel just a little bit ‘normal’ again, however it is very strange to have separate ‘bubbles’ that can’t mix, and no ‘whole school’ events that we enjoy so much. Maintaining social distancing is challenging but everyone is trying their best and there is a positive atmosphere in school. Just when we thought we understood what was happening in education we had the news this week announcing that ‘The government is to drop plans for all English primary pupils to return to school before the end of summer’. I will keep you informed as soon as I have any more information. It would be lovely if we could somehow get our year 2-5 pupils back even if just for a couple of days, but I can’t promise that and I have to wait for further guidance around this so once again, bear with us! Here are some photos and news from the bubbles this week: Red Bubble This week we have been sharing the Story of the Rainbow fish, we sequenced the story and we decided to create our own Rainbow Mermaids. We have been joining in with the Whiterose maths sessions and created our own magic counting books.

This week we have been sharing the Story of the Rainbow fish, we sequenced the story and we decided to create our own Rainbow Mermaids. We have been joining in with the Whiterose maths sessions and created our own magic counting books.

Yellow Bubble This week yellow bubble has been exploring the “Rainbow Bear” during English lessons and have been outside as much as possible. We celebrated Ocean Week by learning key facts about the oceans of our world and discussed the key issue of plastic pollution, just like you have at home. Relay races and rainbow artwork have sure made our afternoons filled with fun!

Green Bubble In Green Bubble this week Miss Hunt and Miss Searle have been really impressed with how well the Year 1s have settled in to the new routines and rules and it has been lovely to be back together again. We have enjoyed reading the story of the Rainbow Fish and working on words to describe the fish. We also learnt about the layers of the ocean and had lots of fun finding out about the strange creatures that live in the different zones, especially the sea cucumber and the vampire squid.

And at home – keep sending us the wonderful photos – we absolutely love seeing what you are up to and what you are learning. Rory completing his science experiment this week.

Freddie has been having fun with science kits at home, learning about Geodes and Crystals. He has had to be super patient as they take a long time to grow!

Freddie enjoyed a trip to Clevedon seafront and was excited to find a crab on the beach.

Next week, teachers will be phoning families that aren’t in school at the moment for a catch up.

Birthdays coming up Theo, Ed, Christopher and Owen Happy Birthday! Some thoughts for this week…. Out value for this term is ‘Hope’ which I think is rather fitting at the moment. I’m sure after all the news this week we are all looking to the future with more hope, hope that we can live in a world of peace and equality for all. Some are passionately hoping for change, for justice, for recognition of equality and some may be hoping that things can just be as they are. If I was to talk to the children about recent news events I would probably begin by getting them to think about ‘Freedom and Responsibility’. Freedom allows us to be individuals and to be who we want to be, freedom allows us to think and speak as we feel we want to. Freedom of course comes with responsibility though, and in all we do we must be mindful of others and the impact we have on them and their freedom. I would tell them that it is important to remember we are ALL different and it is our differences that make us unique and

special, and that makes our country interesting. I would tell them to be proud and confident in their differences and respect and celebrate difference in others! Christians believe that the biggest responsibility we have is to love each other and in the bible in John 13: 34 Jesus says: "A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.” In school when we talk about serious issues or things that are tricky, especially times when grown-ups seem to fall out and treat each other badly, children often say to me ‘Mrs Thomson, The World would be a much better place if people were nicer and just loved and cared for each other wouldn’t it?’ Here’s a story about showing love and kindness… The Two Brothers and the Sacks of Grain. There were once two brothers who farmed together. They shared equally in all the work and split the profits exactly equally. Each had his own barn. One of the brothers was married and had a large family; the other brother was single. One day, the single brother thought to himself, ‘It’s not fair that we divide the grain evenly. My brother has many mouths to feed while I have but one. I know what I’ll do; I’ll take a sack of grain from my barn each evening and put it in my brother’s barn.’ So, that night, when it was dark, he carefully carried a sack of grain across the field and placed it in his brother’s barn. Now, the married brother thought to himself, ‘It’s not fair that we divide the grain evenly. I have many children to care for me in my old age and my brother has none. I know what I’ll do; I’ll take a sack of grain from my barn each evening and put it in my brother’s barn.’ So, that night, when it was dark, he carefully carried a sack of grain across the field and placed it in his brother’s barn. The next morning, the two brothers were amazed to discover that, although they had each removed a sack of grain the night before, they still had just as many left. That night, the same thing happened again. The single brother took a sack of grain from his barn and put in his brother’s barn and the married brother took a sack of grain from his barn and put in his brother’s barn. This carried on for several nights until, one night, the moon was shining brightly and both brothers set off at the same time. Halfway across the field, they bumped into each other! They stopped, looked at each other, saw the other’s sack of grain on the other brother’s back and suddenly understood the mystery of the ‘ever full’ barns! The brothers smiled, gave each other a high five and were filled with a deep love, one for the other. Legend says that God looked down from heaven, saw the two brothers embracing and said, ‘I declare this to be a holy place, for I have witnessed extraordinary love here.’

A Prayer for this week:

Dear God, We celebrate the ways in which we are different. Thank you that you have made each of us a one-off, and that you love us. Our fingerprints are a reminder that we are unique. Help us to value and celebrate the uniqueness of others. Help us to be comfortable with difference and to remember that deep down, we are all the same on the inside and are all created in your image. Help us to be tolerant, understanding and accepting. Help us never to think that discrimination, hatred or prejudice is OK. Give us the courage to challenge any prejudices we may hold. Help us to be open to becoming and growing more tolerant. Amen

Take Care and God Bless. Mrs Thomson

Following the latest Government guidance we are expecting to re-open from Monday 15th June 2020.

We are currently operating a telephone order service where parents can call us with an

order, pay over the phone, and we are holding their purchase until we

re-open, or if they wish they can pick up from us at the door whilst we are closed.

This has proved popular and we will continue to offer this option. Our telephone lines are currently open 10am - 4pm Monday to Friday

Full details are on our website schooltogsnailsea.co.uk

When we are open we will be following all the Government guidelines on social distancing, and hygiene.

We will also be limiting the number of families in the shop at any one time to keep everyone safe.

Our expectation is that it will get very busy as we go through the summer. We would

encourage parents to try and shop early, and this way they will avoid the queues.
