State Membership Chair

When I think about Membership I believe it has a two‐fold

purpose. Those being recruitment and reten on. If we don’t

recruit new members our courts will become weak. But while

we are recrui ng new members we need to focus on retaining

our current members.

A court is like the earth without any rain. So let’s

shower our courts with rain of new members. We need a

flood of new members to help keep Pennsylvania Catholic

Daughters strong. Let it Rain. Let it Rain.

A M e s s a g e f r o m o u r R e g e n t , J u d y W o o dThis will be my last message as Regent of Court Prince Gallitzin #2625. I am very happy that I will soon hand over the

du es of a Regent to another member of our court. That does not mean that I have not enjoyed being the regent of

our court, just the opposite! I joined Catholic Daughters hoping to please Mary, the Mother of Jesus, the Queen of

Saints! Mary has so many tles, and she is such a woman to me. She takes care of the sick and feeds the poor and

helps us all with everyday problems. All we have to do is ask and she listens! I asked her to help me handle court

prob‐lems and du es and how to love and understand all I worked with. She always answered me in one word Unity

Judy, Unity! I have grown to learn that Unity means many things and is difficult to put into prac ce. We are all

Catholic Daughters and we all want to do the right thing, or we would not be here. We must remember that a goal can

be ac‐complished in many ways, not just our individual opinion of how it should be accomplished, that is working in

Unity! Let's all support our new Regent with respect and just plain friendship. I am sure she will enjoy us all also, just

as I have and will con nue to do so! Let's look forward to another 10 years, let's get new members, let's get new ideas,

let's help the underprivileged, but most of all let's all try to remain healthy, and willing to do Mary’s work, together in

Unity and Charity! Congratula ons to all the new officers of our court! My only advice to you is this: Ask Mary!

“… My coworkers and I recently had an IU13 school psychologist Zoom with our students. She stressed that we need

to take care of ourselves because all of us are grieving in some way—loss of loved ones, loss of face‐to‐face classes,

loss of freedom, etc. Our presenter said we must RAIN: Recognize what we are grieving about; Allow ourselves to

grieve; Inves gate new ways to be together; Nurture ourselves. We need to take care of ourselves, so we can get

through this, so let’s all RAIN.” Read the full ar cle, found at the address beneath Margaret’s name above.

At each mee ng we will be collec ng non‐perishable food items, cleaning supplies, or paper products. Please, bring one (1)

SpecialPrayerforPriestsLORD JESUS CHRIST, eternal High Priest, you offered yourself to the Father on the altar

of the Cross and through the outpouring of the Holy Spirit gave your priestly people a

share in your redeeming sacrifice. Hear our prayer for the sanc fica on of our priests.

Grant that all who are ordained to the ministerial priesthood may be ever more con‐

formed to you, the divine Master. May they preach the Gospel with pure heart and

clear conscience. Let them be shepherds according to your own heart, single‐minded in

service to you and to the Church and shining examples of a holy, simple and joyful life.

Through the prayers of the Blessed Virgin Mary, your Mother and ours, draw all priests

and the flocks entrusted to their care to the fullness of eternal life where you live and

reign with the Father and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. AMEN.

WhereDoesPrayerComeFrom?Submi ed by Pa e, Spiritual Enhancement Chair

In naming the source of prayer, Scripture speaks some mes of the soul or the spirit, but most

o en of the heart (more than a thousand mes). According to Scripture, it is the heart

that prays. If your heart is far from God, the words of prayer are in vain (CCC, no. 2562).

Our focus groups for these two Circle of Love (CoL) programs are the Carmelite Community of the Word

(CCW); Catholic Chari es (CC); local civic outreach programs; and, all the parishes here in our city of Altoona!

During this Covid-19 pandemic donations for many not-for-profit organizations have dwindled, if not completely

dried-up. This, compounded by the fact the need in our community, due to loss of gainful employment, has exponentially

increased. In light of all of this, Court Prince Gallitzin’s Spiritual Enhancement program donated an unrestricted gift of

$300.00, the amount previously allocated for a court retreat/day of reflection this year at the Carmelite Community of the

Word, to them, in lieu of the retreat/day of reflection. Additionally, the balance of funds allocated in these two CoL

programs, $191.63, was donated to Catholic Charities, for use in the Altoona area.

Everyone interested in making luminaries, cards, or small gi s for shut‐ins at our local parishes during the

holiday seasons and ordinary mes, let Pa e know; contact information is on the first page.

Planning ahead, October 24, 2020 is Make a Difference Day; contact Pa e if you can help! Come help us, help our

fellow friend/family/neighbor; let’s Make a Difference in someone’s life every day … and, on this special day!

GreetingsfromPeggyGuckin,PastStateRegent&NationalDirectorMy Dear Catholic Daughters, I know many of you have been staying home and following our state’s guidelines. Since

returning early from Florida I have only been out a few mes (essen al) wearing mask, gloves and carrying my Purell.

Con nue praying for all those that are sick with the virus, all those who have died especially those who have

no one to pray for them. May their souls and all the souls of the faithful departed rest in peace. Remember to pray

for all our heroes and those who can’t be with their loves ones as they ba le this disease. Don’t forget to exercise

even if you are si ng in a chair. You and all your family are remembered in my daily mass and prayers.

So far, the Conven on is s ll on for July 15‐19. The Na onal Board and the Texas officers are working hard to

bring you a produc ve and enjoyable conven on. I hope to see many of you in Dallas.

Stay well, stay safe, stay strong with the Lord.
