INTRODUCTION GCU Consultants Sdn Bhd is a registered mechanical and electrical engineering consulting firm. GCU was established in the year of 1998. The firm and the key associate personnel have been successfully servicing the clients with a comprehensive range of mechanical electrical engineering consulting services. GCU is registered with the Board of Engineers Malaysia and Ministry of Finance Malaysia. GCU is also an ISO Certified by SIRIM and UKAS to MS ISO 9001: 2008 Quality Management Systems Standard. The foremost goal of the company is to provide quality, innovative and economical solutions for our clients. The strength of the firm lies with its well qualified and experienced staffs who are committed to achieving excellence in the profession. The Professional staff of GCU has the relevant capability and experience to undertake any major electrical engineering consultancy services. SOFTWARE

The firm is equipped with an excellent range of computer software to analyse even the most complex tasks in civil and geotechnical engineering. These computing power coupled with the judgement of the experienced engineers are vital in the analyses of the complex behavior of the civil and geotechnical structures. The available programs at present are: SAGE CRISP / PLAXIS (Version 9.01) Sage Crisp and Plaxis is a finite element program able to perform drained, undrained or fully coupled (Biot) consolidation analysis of two dimensional plane strain or axisymmetric solid bodies. The constitutive models included are homogeneous anisotropic linear elastic, non homogeneous isotropic linear elastic, linear elastic-perfectly plastic with Tresca, Von Mises, Mohr-Coulomb or Drucker-Prager yield criteria, Critical State based models - Cam Clay, Modified Cam Clay, and Schofield soil. WALLAP (Version 5.04) Wallap analyses a wide range of retaining wall problems including cantilevered walls, anchored walls and strutted excavations. It is suitable for the analysis of both temporary works, such as sheet pile walling, and permanent works such as reinforced concrete diaphragm walling and bored pile walls. Wallap offers conventional limit equilibrium analysis for calculation factors of safety, and also finite element analysis for calculating bending moments, displacements and strut forces. PIGLET (Version 5.1) PIGLET calculates settlement of a pile group or single pile under general loading conditions. Elastic closed form solutions for single piles and interaction factors for group. Linear variation of soil modulus with depth, separate modulus for axial and lateral loading. Piles can be raked in any direction.

SAFE Analysis and design of slab systems using the Finite Element method. SAFE is a software for integrated design of concrete slabs and basemats. SAFE is suitable to analyze and design slabs of arbitrary geometry and varying thickness, drop panels, openings with edge beams and embedded beams subjected to vertical point, line or surface loads. Column supports, wall supports, or soil supports for basemats can be modeled. Discontinuities in the slab system due to slip joints, or differences in slab elevations can also be included. WINSTABL (Version 3.0) WINSTABL is a fully integrated slope stability analysis program. It performs a two dimensional limit equilibrium analysis to compute the factor of safety for a layered slope using the modified Bishop, Janbu or spencer methods. It can handle heterogeneous soil system, anisotropic soil strength properties, reinforced slopes, nonlinear Mohr-Coulomb strength envelope, pseudo-static earthquake loading, surcharge boundary loads and automatic generation and analysis of circular, non circular and block-shaped failure surfaces. REPUTE (Version 2) Repute 2 provides a rich set of capabilities for engineers to design / analyse :Various types of single pile, using current and historical design standards (such as Eurocode 7 and BS 8004) Pile groups under generalized 3-dimensional loading, using linear and non-linear soil models. Repute considers single pile response using a variety of calculation methods for ultimate and serviceability limit states. Both traditional lumped factors-of-safety and modern partial factors can be applied in these calculations. Repute considers pile group behaviour using the boundary element method, employing the leading analytical program PGroupN (developed by and included under exclusive license from Geomarc). PGroupN provides a complete 3D non-linear boundary element solution of the soil continuum, which overcomes limitations of traditional interaction-factor methods and gives more realistic predictions of deformations and the load distribution between piles.

layout plan. Obtaining approval from TNB for the upgrade of 33kV/11kV Intake with proposed new

33kV TNB SSU building Bomba, Majlis and Suruhanjaya on subsequent approvals

Provide detailed design on building M&E works for 33kV TNB SSU compromising lighting,

small power, air conditioning, mechanical ventilation and fire fighting services. Provide detailed design on 33Kv TNB SSU building for electrical earthing and lighting

protection systems Provide HV Cabling Routing Plans:-

HV Cablings Route from 33kV Consumer Room to Distribution Transformers HV Cabling Route from Distribution Transformers to 11kV New Consumer

Switchgear and from 11kV New Consumer Switchgear to 11kV Existing Consumer Switchgear Panels.

Provide detail design for NER (neutral earth resistor), differential / standby / restricted

earth fault relay alogorithms and transformer / switchgear protection schemes. Provide adequate transformer size based on client’s requirement and provide optimum

and effective design to cater both interest e.g. TNB requirement and client’s expectation. Ensure TNB electrical 33kV intake is supplied on time based on coordination with suitable

WORK EXPERIENCE From October 1992 to September 1994

Joined GEC Malaysia Sdn Bhd (currently known as Mahkota Engineering & Power System Sdn Bhd) in October1992 as a Design Engineer in the Power System Division. Job scope involves in the field of design schemes associated with Relay Protection and Control systems for both Substations and Power Generation Stations.

Principle job functions includes:- a) Preparing Tenders proposals for Relay and Control panels for both Power Station

and Substation projects. b) Inviting quotation, evaluation equipment as per specification and verifying various forms

of calculation to conform the relevant standards and principles. c) Preparation of design schemes for relay protection and Control systems for High

Voltage Substation i.e. 275kV, 132kV, 66kV and 33kV system. d) Supervision of CAD drafting works before submission approval to Client. e) Perform Functional, commissioning and testing of Relay Protection and Control panels as

well as site modification works involving both Outdoor and Indoor Equipment before energisation.

Project Execution :-

a) Peninsular Malaysia Transmission Development Project 1991 (JMK 25163). This Contract covers a complete turnkey execution works at locations :-

275/132kV Switching Station at Bedong. 275/132kV Substation at Bukit Tambun. 132/33/11kV Substation at Prai Industrial Estate, Juru. 132/22/11kV Substation at Slim River.

b) 132kV GIS TNB HQ & DCA Subang Substation. This Contract covers the supply of a complete protection relay and control panels including Local Control Cubicle (LCC) to the Main Contractor - Holec (GIS manufacturer). The total substation works covers of :-

Four 132kV Overhead Line feeders. Four 132kV Underground feeders. Four 132/33kV Transformer bays. Two 132kV Bus-Coupler and Bus-Section Bays.

c) Pergau Hydroelectric Project. This is a Hydroelectric Power Station project located at Jeli, Kelantan. The scope of work covers the supply, design and engineering of the Protection Relay and Disturbance Recorder panels to the Main Contractor - GEC Alstom (Electrical Contractor). This Outdoor GIS substation consists of :-

Four 275kV Overhead Line feeders. Four 275kV Underground Generators feeders. Four 275/33/11kV Three winding Transformer bays. One 275kV Bus-Coupler and Bus Section Bays. Four 275kV Generators Transformer feeders.

d) 33/11kV Tanjung Manis TPZ Substation No 1 & 2.

This Contract covers the supply, erection and commissioning of 33kV outdoor switchgears, 33/11kV transformers, ancillary equipment and civil works for the Sarawak Electricity Supply Corporation (SESCO). The total substation works covers of :-

Six 33kV Overhead Line feeders. Four 33/11kV Transformer bays. Two 33kV Bus-Section Bays. Twenty 11kV Outgoing feeders. Two 11kV Bus-Section Bays.

From September 1994 to Date Joined Transmission Technology Sdn Bhd (Engineering Department) in September 1994 as Electrical Engineer. Job scope involves in the area of design, inspection, field supervision of Substation Automation System, Telecommunication and Relay Control Protection equipment as well as associated HV switchyard equipment. In 1997, promoted to Senior Engineer position and was given opportunity to work together with Consultants like KTA Tenaga, TNEC (subsidiary of TNB), Black-Veatch International (BVI) and HydroQuebec with greater emphasis on project management, conceptual engineering, field-testing, commissioning works and preparation of live switching schedules before final energisation of a complete Substation and Transmission equipment. In 2000, promoted as Manager within the Engineering Department of the the Substation Division. Main responsibility covers completion of Substation turnkey projects. Principle job functions include :- a) Submission of a complete proposals which is inclusive of conceptual design,

construction, acceptance tests and final commissioning test before energisation. b) Evaluating the sub-contractor proposals on technical matters especially on design

calculation to suit the overall system requirements in-line with TNB Code of practice. c) Checking of design calculations for the outdoor substation equipment such as

configuration of Line parameters, System fault current, DC loading, Busbar design, Earthing system, CT calculation, Optical Budget Power Loss and others.

d) Preparation of working method for other alternative solution that meets the specification and requirements.

e) Preparation the layout drawings which includes equipment layout, protection & control schemes, telecommunication scheme, logic diagram and others.

f) Complete commissioning test for Current Transformer, Voltage Transformer, Circuit Breaker, Disconnect Switches Equipment Telecommunication, Relay, Control, Disturbance Recorder and Fault Locator Equipment.

g) Propose relay setting for all types of relays especially Main 1 and Main 2 Distance Relays.

h) Proposal for Power system studies utilising ATPDraw and EMTP (ElectroMagnetic Transient Programme) software

Project Execution :-

The scope of this project was to execute the implementation of 500kV Transmission Development System Network that spans across a distance of 520Km. The span begins from Gurun Substation (Kedah) right down to Port Klang Power Station in Selangor and further continues from Yong Peng East Substation right down to Pasir Gudang Power Station, both of which are located in the State of Johor which forms the Phase 1 & 1A of the Development of 1st 500kV Transmission system in Malaysia. Total value of project was RM 1.4 billion

This project covers a complete turnkey execution works at following locations: -

275kV Switching Station at Gurun, Junjong, Yong Peng (E) and Bukit Batu. 500/275kV Substations at Kapar and Bukit Tarek. 275kV Extension 2 nos feeder bays at Port Klang and Pasir Gudang Power

Stations. 500kV Transmission Tower energised at 275kV from Gurun to Bukit Tarek with

a distance 323 Km 500kV Transmission Tower energised at 500kV from Bukit Tarek to Kapar with

a distance 51 Km 275kV Transmission Tower energised at 275kV from Kapar to Port Klang

Power Station with a distance 5 Km. 500kV Transmission Tower energised at 275kV from Yong Peng to Pasir

Gudang with a distance 139 Km Complete PDH Telecommunication Transmission Network Equipment covering

from Gurun right down to Port Klang Power Station and continue further down to Pasir Gudang Power Station.

b) 275kV Transmission Development System Project for Sabah East-West

Transmission Grid The scope of this project was to execute the 275kV Transmission Development System between West Coast Grid and East Coast Grid for the State of Sabah The span covers 300km west to east of the State of Sabah. Since this would be the first and longest 275kV Transmission Line ever built for Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd, compensation was taken into the design and implementation which requires special Reactors Banks and Static Var Compensators equipment to control the Mvar losses within Sabah East West Grids. Total value of project stands at RM 450 million. This scope of contract covers a complete turnkey execution works at locations :-

275/132kV Substations at Kolopis and Segaliud. 132kV Extension 2 nos feeder bays facing Kolopis Substation at Penampang

Substation. Repeater Station at Telupid to accommodate Telecommunication system. 275kV Transmission Tower energised at 275kV from Kolopis to Segaliud with

a distance of 300 Km 275kV Transmission Tower energised at 132kV facing Powertron

(Karambunai) and Kota Belud (Loop-in and Loop-out) at Kolopis Substation. 132kV Underground Cable from Kolopis to Penampang with distance of 8 Km Complete SDH STM-4 Telecommunication Project for the whole of Sabah for

This contract was awarded to Consortium Partner (KHIM) made up of Koperasi Polis, Hg Corporation, Isoplus and MRCB. MRCB scope involves implementation of 275kV Hybrid System Transmission line-Underground cable (oil-filled) between Salak South and Pantai Substations capable of transmitting 1000 MVA power on each circuit. Both stations, 275kV GIS Switching Station at Salak South and 275kV GIS Extension Bays at Pantai Substation incorporates installation of Primary equipment together with necessary remote and local control relay modification and Telecommunication equipment. The current scope of work covers a complete turnkey execution works at locations:-
