Physics Teaching CPD
These FREE CPD sessions are aimed at non-specialist Physics teachers in Secondary
Schools. This is an opportunity to attend 3 days of FREE physics CPD to improve your
knowledge and confidence, and to try out a range of practical teaching strategies.
A unique feature of our training is the dedicated maths session. Participants will learn how,
and when, the maths needed for physics is taught in students’ maths lessons. We combine this with physics knowledge to look at strategies for teaching and applying maths in physics
lessons.

Enabling you to equip staff to tackle homophobic,
biphobic and transphobic (HBT) bullying in schools
The Train the Trainer courses are aimed at pastoral,
anti-bullying and PSHE leads.
The Stonewall training gives you the knowledge, tools and confidence
to train colleagues on tackling homophobic, biphobic and transphobic
bullying. It also enables you to understand how to support lesbian,
gay, bi and trans young people, as well as meeting the requirements
of the new Ofsted inspection framework. After attending the course,
participating schools automatically become members of Stonewall’s School Champions programme.

Twilight CPD
delivered by: Keren Gunn, Senior Assistant Principal
A twilight course for teaching and support staff,
aimed at both experienced and budding coaches at all levels.
You may currently manage staff and want to brush up your coaching
skills, whilst also taking the opportunity to discuss ideas with other
coaches within the school.
Maybe you have coached or mentored other members of staff
or trainee teachers and would like to be able to improve your
coaching skills for the future.
Perhaps you have never coached anyone but would like to
be able to start coaching, and would like some techniques
and strategies before you start.
Whatever your level, the Coaching Skills Twilight CPD will
offer you improved and enhanced leadership and management
skills, which you can use whilst working with colleagues or students.

Recently Qualified
Teacher Programme This programme is aimed at recently qualified teachers in Primary, Secondary and Special School
settings. It is suitable for teachers in their 2nd, 3rd or 4th year of teaching.
The programme aims to build on existing experience and develop the skills gained in the first
years of teaching. It aims to further develop the themes looked at in the NQT programme,
although it is not necessary for participants to have attended this.
Its purpose is to further develop effective teaching and learning strategies and to aid participants
in becoming consistently outstanding teachers. It also aims to support one’s development professionally beyond the classroom and to help you in ensuring young people’s well-being.

but don’t know how to use it?
From productions to parents’ evenings, shows to “show and tell”, being able to create atmosphere, ambience and impact through the use of sound and lighting gives

This twilight session aims to provide you with the knowledge, skills and experience

The Hatton Teaching School Alliance A level maths Network is aimed at both new and experienced A
level Maths teachers. The sessions are hosted by Beverly Dutt, an experienced Maths Teacher at Sir
Christopher Hatton Academy who has successfully improved and sustained the attainment level of A
level maths in the school, which uses the Edexcel syllabus.
The network aims to be a collaborative and supportive way for teachers to be able improve the
quality of learning and teaching across all participating schools. They are an opportunity to share
best practice, to ask for support and advice on any area of the A level syllabus and help to develop
subject knowledge. The meetings take place in Hatton Teaching School Alliance’s dedicated training centre starting at 4pm, with refreshments included.

The Hatton Teaching School Alliance Secondary Closing the Gap Network is aimed at anyone involved in the implementation of strategies intended to improve outcomes for Pupil premium students. The sessions are hosted by Alastair Mitchell, Vice Principal at Sir Christopher Hatton Academy with responsibility for Closing the Gap. Alastair has helped to shape Sir Christopher Hatton Academy’s curriculum to ensure that students are placed on the most appropriate courses to suit their ability, whilst monitoring the progress of pupil premium students, helping to remove barriers that may be hindering their progress.
The network aims to be a collaborative and supportive environment in order to discuss
strategies intended to improve the outcomes for Pupil Premium Students across the
network. They are an opportunity to share best practice and to ask for support and advice
on any area of the Closing the Gap. The meetings take place in Hatton Teaching School

The Hatton Teaching School Alliance Secondary PSHE Network is aimed at anyone involved in the
teaching of PSHE in Secondary settings. Including both new and experienced teachers, PSHE
coordinators and pastoral leads. The sessions are hosted by Keren Gunn, Senior Assistant Principal
at Sir Christopher Hatton Academy with responsibility for both the Teaching School and Staff
Development. Keren sits on the National PSHE Association advisory committee and has sustained a
high level of PSHE engagement throughout the academy. She is designated as a Specialist Leader of
Education (SLE) where she has supported schools in the local area to develop their PSHE curriculum.
The network aims to be a collaborative and supportive environment in order to improve the quality
of learning and teaching across all participating schools. They are an opportunity to share best
practice, to ask for support and advice on any area of the PSHE curriculum and help to develop
subject knowledge. The meetings take place in Hatton Teaching School Alliance’s dedicated training centre starting at 4pm, with refreshments included.

Principal at Sir Christopher Hatton Academy with responsibility for Pastoral and student support. She
is an experienced English teacher who has supported the English departments of several local
schools in her role as a Specialist Leader of Education (SLE)

The Hatton Teaching School Alliance Secondary Anti-bullying and E-safety Network is aimed at
anyone involved in supporting students and enabling staff to deal with bullying effectively. This links
with e-safety to provide a sound base of knowledge and understanding of the challenges faced with
the use of technology both in, and out of the school environment. The sessions are hosted by John
Barker, Lead Teacher at Sir Christopher Hatton Academy who successfully delivers the Stonewall
Train the Trainer courses, gaining the Gold Award as a Stonewall school champion school. He has
supported schools nationally in implementing policy change, anti-bullying and behaviour strategies
and has recently been designated as a Specialist Leader of Education (SLE) for behaviour, with a
focus on bullying.
The network aims to be a collaborative and supportive environment in order to improve the support
and training given to all schools across the network. They are an opportunity to share best practice,
to ask for support and advice on any area of bullying or e-safety and help to develop combined
knowledge on effective strategies and best practice. The meetings take place in Hatton Teaching
School Alliance’s dedicated training centre starting at 4pm, with refreshments included.

The Hatton Teaching School Alliance Secondary Science Network is aimed at anyone involved in the
teaching of Science in Secondary settings. The sessions are suitable for both new and experienced
teachers, as well as heads of department. The sessions are hosted by Nick Salisbury, Vice-Principal at
Sir Christopher Hatton Academy with responsibility for teaching and learning and Dr Abby Bell, Lead
physics teacher and Ogden fellow. They are both experienced science teachers who have provided
support to science departments beyond Sir Christopher Hatton Academy. Dr Bell works closely with
the Institute of Physics to promote physics teaching and runs courses to improve the teaching of
non-specialist physics teachers, in addition to outreach work with primary schools.
The network aims to be a collaborative and supportive environment in order to improve the quality
of learning and teaching across all participating schools. They are an opportunity to share best
practice, to ask for support and advice on any area of the science curriculum and help to develop
