How to book

CPD Programme

2

A very brief course evaluation will be sent to participants’ email addresses on the date of attendance. It is critical to the continued running of the Teaching School that these are completed promptly by all who attend.

All bookings for the YTSA CPD programme must be made online via the Eventbrite booking system, including for sessions taking place in your home school.*

Visit: www.eventbrite.co.uk

Bookings for any courses must be made by 4pm ON THE WEDNESDAY PRIOR to the date of the course.

You can search by area on any chosen date and look for the YTSA Logo, alternatively you can do a general search for the Yorkshire Teaching School Alliance.

Alternatively, follow the link below to find a list of all the events we offer via the evenbrite booking platform:

www.eventbrite.co.uk/o/yorkshire-teaching-school-alliance-9897107163

There is no cost for ‘home staff ’ wanting to attend sessions* offered in their own school. However, please note that a booking still needs to be made via Eventbrite as for some sessions places are limited.

Attendance at Monday training sessions at venues other than your own school carry a small cost as agreed by the Headteachers.

Please follow your own internal CPD procedures prior to booking on Eventbrite so that your CPD Co-Ordinator and Finance Manager can either make the booking on your behalf or are aware of your intention.

Please note that this charging structure applies to Monday night 4-5pm CPD sessions only.

Other courses, including the NQT and RQT conferences will have their own charging structure which will be shown clearly on the Eventbright website and in specific literature for the event.

The YTSA CPD programme 2019-2020

Strand 1 - Monday training sessionsOur Monday sessions run throughout the Autumn and Spring terms, from 4-5pm and are hosted at various schools across the Teaching Alliance. They are based on up to date and reliable educational research, delivered by practising teachers and school leaders. They are mostly designed as a series of two sessions across the two terms in order to encourage continuity.

Strand 2 - NetworkingOur networks include teaching and non-teaching specialists and are led by volunteers from different schools in the Alliance. The ‘network leads’ are listed in this booklet for ease of reference and can be contacted at any time; they decide how/when/where their networks meet each academic year.

Strand 3 - ConferencesWe will offer the popular NQT and RQT conferences again this year and have added ‘Research lead’ training, training for School Leaders, and a conference for Teaching Assistants.

Strand 4 - Masters programme Leeds Trinity University continues to work with the YTSA to offer PGCert and Masters Qualifications. This credits attendance at the Monday training sessions, followed by more independent study.

Strand 5 - National Proffessional QualificationsAll of the National Professional Qualifications can be accessed via the Yorkshire Leadership Community. This year, Allerton High School is co-ordinating and facilitating the NPQML for the YTSA, full details of which can be found on pages 12 of this booklet.

Strand 6 - Additional provisionWe are finding that the cost of external training can be shared by opening it up to partner schools. If you would like the YTSA to add your training event to Eventbrite and advertise it, please email [email protected] directly. Additionally, if you would like specific training, but are unable to attend the dates set, please contact us and we will try to help.

2019/20

CPD leads from all partner schools continue to meet regularly to identify the training priorities for their teaching staff. This shapes our Continuing Professional Development Programme, as below:

CPD Programme

Monday training sessions The themes for this year’s training, as previously, come from an audit of needs across the partner schools. These sessions are then led by expertise within the YTSA and hosted by schools spread geographically across the alliance.

For full details of all Monday training sessions, please go to Eventbrite, where you will find information about the content of the session/s, the target audience and the facilitator.

We are running two linked sessions on teaching disadvantaged students. This is an on-going focus for many of our partner schools and the sessions will be running at both All Saints School in York and Boroughbridge High School.

High prior attaining students are also often a focus in our schools and we are running a training session to help with this particular challenge; this can be attended at either St John Fisher School or Tadcaster Grammar School.

Pedagogy has been shaped in recent years by the findings of cognitive science. Three areas of particular interest to our schools are Metacognition, Academic resilience and Memory for learning. Sessions in Metacognition will run at King James’s School, All Saints and St. Angustine’s. Academic resilience will run St Aidan’s and St Frances Xavier and Memory for learning will run at Ashville, Woodkirk, All Saints and St. Angustine’s.

Behaviour, attitude and low level disruption will be addressed in a series of two linked sessions running at GSAL and King James’s School.

The New Ofsted framework is the subject of a training session at Ripon Grammar School and Rydale School during the Autumn term.

Middle leader training (for subject and pastoral leaders) will be offered across two linked Monday sessions at Bedale, St John Fisher and Boroughbridge Schools.

NQT ConferenceFor all NQTs, we offer a two part conference across two half days, which offers relevant and helpful content for a teacher at this point in their career. Part 1: Thursday 7th Nov 09.00 - 13.00 at King James’s School

Part 2: Thursday 19th June 09.00 - 13.00 at St Aidan’s School

Masters

National Professional QualificationsThis year, Allerton High School is running the Middle Leader Qualification (NPQML) on behalf of the YTSA, details of which are below. Details have already been emailed to all YTSA schools and full details are on Eventbrite, including the dates/times of training sessions. A summary is below:

The NPQML course involves working towards a change project in your school, impacting positively on your students and team. To give you the skills, knowledge and characteristics to achieve this, you will complete 12 study modules, supported by a coach. You will also work through leadership competencies, interpersonal tasks and a professional learning journal.

Who is it for? Those who are, or are aspiring to become, a middle leader with responsibility for leading a team in an education setting.

Cost is £800 per participant (inclusive of final assessment costs).

Schools in Category 5 and 6 areas or Opportunity areas may be eligible for Scholarship Funding.

How to ApplyTo secure a place on the NPQML programme, your headteacher will need to support your application and agree to release you for all parts of the course.

To apply and book, contact: Brenda McKenna - [email protected]

To find out more about the course requirements, visit: www.ssatuk.co.uk/npqml-modules

Deadline for applications: July 15th, for the Autumn 2019 cohort.

The NPQML course summary and guided learning hours:• 12 course modules – 24 hours

• Self-study intersessional tasks – 12 hours

• Coaching – 6 hours

• Online engagement with peers and through the Knowledge Hub platform – 12 hours

• Real-world workplace learning and improvement project – 150 hours

As a teaching alliance, the YTSA continues to promote research based enquiry. One way of engaging with this type of professional development is to undertake a PGCert/Masters qualification with Leeds Trinity University.

In the Autumn term, we will advertise for our sixth cohort on this bespoke course of study, which works with our Monday training sessions and builds on this with taught and independent study sessions.
