Material Fibers & Textiles

Asahi Kasei

Including Bemberg™ cupro, the unique fiber born from cotton and the core of our heritage, our fibers operation supplies worldwide markets with original technologies and unique fiber materials developed through 90 years of experience in manufacturing of original yarn, spun fiber, and fabric.

With a powerful disinfection effect, UVC (the shorter wavelength

range of ultraviolet light) is expected to play a growing role in

protecting health by preventing infections in hospitals, and by

disinfecting air in vacuum cleaners and air conditioners. In 2011,

Asahi Kasei acquired Crystal IS, Inc., a US company with technology

for aluminum nitride (AlN) substrates for light-emitting diodes (LEDs)

that emit UVC light. The two companies jointly developed UVC-LEDs,

and in 2014 Asahi Kasei began mass production at a plant in Fuji,

Japan. Applications are being developed in a wide range of fields

utilizing Asahi Kasei's broad market connections in the housing,

Commercialization of UVC-LEDs

Highlights

01In April 2016, Asahi Kasei Europe GmbH began operation in Dusseldorf,

Germany. The company will play a key role in enhancing the Asahi Kasei

Group's marketing to the automotive industry in Europe, a strategic focus.

Asahi Kasei has also established an Automotive Marketing Dept. which,

together with Asahi Kasei Europe, will reinforce our capability for product

proposals including synthetic rubber for fuel-efficient tires, performance

polymer that contributes to weight reduction, LSIs for audio systems and

voice commands, sensors that improve safety, fiber materials for upholstery

and airbags, and battery separators. In these and other areas, the

multifaceted material technology of the Asahi Kasei Group will make a

growing contribution to clean energy and a clean environment.
