Kay Whitt:Sew Serendipity Bags
A Note to our FrieNds Hopefully we have seen the last of the really hot weather until next year. The long hot Texas summer doesn’t want to let go and is showing what it can still do with the draught and all the fires, especially in the Austin area. Our hearts go out to all those that have lost their homes and businesses. Everyone stay safe! We have a positive outlook for the fall. The expansion of last year has been a big success, and we thank everyone for the great comments. As we move into the fall and winter we are excited about the plans Bernina has to share. The all-new 500 Series Berninas replace the 400 series with additional features and accessories. The three new models B530, B550 Quilters Edition with BSR and the B580E with full embroidery are perfectly positioned for all types of sewing and embroidery. Our new class schedule has lots of new exciting classes. There is a variety of perfect classes for
everyone. Remember, you can sign-up and pay on-line at our new website. If you haven’t visited us on the web we encourage you to do: www.berrypatchfabrics.com. You will have direct access to our facebook page as well as our new blog! Take a look. We’ll be updating all three often. Please accept our thanks for your support over the last 34 years. It’s you that have kept us thriving even though times have often been difficult. Whenever possible, please support your locally owned “brick and mortar” stores. It’s the only way we can compete with the “big guys”.
Thanks again,
Bob, Shirley, Stayce and the entire Berry Patch staff

Sew Serendipity Bags: With full instructions for twelve bags and with a few clever variations thrown in, there are plenty of designs to choose from! Pick a handbag that is sweet, sleek, or funky. Or check out some of the other great designs: a flirty little backpack, the perfect lunch bag, convenient shop-ping bags and handy task-oriented bags (whether that task involves a laptop, gym clothes, or diapers). Each design is easy to adapt to your style.
new Pattern info: The fall collection is comprised of three new patterns. The first is a great new dress called the Madeline Maxi Dress. It is offered in two lengths, knee and ankle. It has a sleeveless bodice, V-neckline, wide raised waistband, and full skirt with options for a pieced or ruffled hem. The next design is a wonderful new jacket called the Savannah Swing Jacket. It features a collared, yoked bodice with a gentle A-line to a cropped or fingertip length with two different pleated options. The set-in style sleeves are bracelet length with many cuff options. This jacket can be fully lined with instructions included for an unlined version as well. The last design is a follow-
up to the popular Fashion Formula Skirts booklet released last fall. Fashion Formula Skirts 2 features 4 new skirt designs based on the same notion of cutting the pieces based on hip measurement with no pattern pieces required!
author/designer info: "Love what you do, and you will never work a day in your life." In a nutshell, this quote describes exactly the way Kay Whitt feels about her work as a pattern designer for clothing and accessories. After spending nine years as an elementary school teacher (sewing in her spare time), she resigned in 2001 and launched her pattern company. Since then, Kay has earned a reputation for her innovative designs and clear instructions, making her patterns some of the most popular in the marketplace, and written the bestselling Sew Serendipity.
Kay resides in Grand Prairie, TX with her husband, Keith, and their bird, ET. She is always busy working on something new and exciting and never tires of sharing her passion for design and sewing.

shirley's reCiPe CorNerThe first recipe is for Lemon Cookies. We served them at a tea and we had several requests for the recipe. The second recipe is for
Hamburger-Vegetable soup in the hopes that the hot summer will end and cool days will come when a soup will sound good.
High tea lemon Cookies2 cups butter, room temperature2/3 cup powered sugar1 tsp. grated lemon zest1/2 tsp. Vanilla2 cups flour1 1/2 cups cornstarch (Yes, that's right 1 1/2 CUPS)
Heat oven to 350 degrees. In a large bowl, beat butter until creamy. Add powered sugar; mix until light and fluffy. Add lemon zest and vanilla. Beat well. Add flour and cornstarch into butter mixture until well combined. Note: At first the dough will look dry -- but don't worry, the dough slowly comes together as you mix it and the butter melts into the dry ingredients.
Do not refrigerate this dough as the butter will harden and make the dough unmanageable for rolling into a ball.
Using your hands, roll cookie dough into 1 inch balls. Place onto ungreased cookie sheets and bake 15 minutes or until bottoms are light brown. Remove from oven, carefully remove from baking sheets, and cool on cooling racks.
When cookies have cooled, spread Lemon Frosting onto top of cookie.
Yield: 6 dozen cookies
lemon FrostingThis recipe makes enough for a double batch of cookies
1/3 cup butter, room temperature1 tsp. Grated lemon zest1/3 to 1/2 cup freshly-squeezed lemon juice4 cups powered sugar
In medium bowl, combine butter, lemon zest, lemon juice, and powered sugar; stir until well mixed. Note: Additional lemon juice may be needed to get the frosting thin enough.
Hamburger-Vegetable Soup1 lb ground beef1 cup onion - chopped1 cup potatoes - chopped1 cup carrots - chopped1 cup cabbage - shredded1 cup celery - sliced4 cups tomatoes1/4 cup rice3 cups water4 tsp. Salt1/4 tsp. Basil1/4 tsp. Thyme1 bay leaf
Cook the onion and ground beef together until the beef is lightly browned. Drain off excess fat and add all the remaining ingredients. Bring the mixture to a boil and cover. Simmer for 1 hour. Makes 9 cups.

to a minimum. Many classes do not require a
kit, but do require supplies. We ask that you purchase the class supplies from the
Berry Patch. This is the only way we can maintain
low class fees. Our classes are presented
for the individual use of those attending. If you
teach somewhere else or plan to do so, please let us
know. We have different class fees when we train
teachers. Most classes fill quickly, so
we suggest you register early to reserve your spot!

We believe that our class schedule is an important
part of the service we provide. Our teachers and staff work hard to provide quality training in many
areas and we appreciate your participation.
In the future, we will make three the minimum number of students for a class to be held. We ask that you
sign up for the classes you wish to take as soon as you decide, rather than wait to see if the class makes with
the minimum three students. This will help us with
scheduling.
We also request that you purchase the supplies
necessary for the class from us. This is the only way we can maintain our low class fees. If the minimum three students is not met, we will refund your class fee. We suggest you purchase any
specialized supplies after the class has made. We can call you to let you know before
the class date.
Finally, we ask that you call us if you have signed up
and paid for a class, but do not intend to attend. If you call us three days before the class date, we will be happy to refund your fee.
This happens often and the class space is unused. Many of the classes have a waiting
list of students that would like to attend.
Thanks for your understanding!
