TASMANIAN OAK / VICTORIAN ASHWHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE between TASMANIAN OAK and VICTORIAN ASH?

Tasmanian Oak (or Australian Oak) refers to the hardwood produced by three trees: Eucalyptus Regnans, Eucalyptus Obliqua or Eucalyptus Delegatensis, when it is sourced from the Australian State of Tasmania.

The same timber when sourced from Victoria, is called Victorian Ash.

The hardwood timber is light in colour, ranging from straw to light reddish brown (pink, beige or blond). It is used in the construction of furniture. Due to the difference in colour of the base timber the finished colour can sometimes be quite different from piece to piece, this is governed by the colour of the base material. Slate, Ash, Almond, Maple, Baltic and Light Oak are stains which colour the timber. There will be variations.

Smoke and Mist are tints, therefore these only tint the colour of the timber underneath. Colours will be more varied as these

are only tints. Please be aware of this when choosing.

FINISHESCLEAN FINISH

This timber has been selected for its mostly clean finish. The different colours of Victorian Ash and Tasmanian Oak will still be present, with small gum vein visible.

NATURAL FINISHThis timber has been selected for its special gentle feature. This finish sits between Clean and High Feature. Showing grain,

knots, gum vein and the many colours of Victorian Ash and Tasmanian Oak.

HIGH FEATURE FINISHThis is timber that has been selected for its special feature within the surface of the timber, the feature in the timber is a natural characteristic of the timber, and as such each piece will be different, showing gum vein, holes, knots and larger natural characteristics. As timber is a living breathing organism we cannot control the feature from piece to piece.

BONADIESI RANGECreative Wooden Ideas manufacture an Australian Natural Edge range, called the ‘BONADIESI’ .Natural edges on sides of Dining, Buffet, Entertainment units, Hall, Lamp and Coffee vary in feature, texture and colour. There will be variation in colours as the Solid Timber and Australian Timber Veneers will show all colours of Victoria Ash – which are pink, blond, beige, yellow and often black grain is visible. Creative Wooden Ideas recommend that you remind customers that each piece is individual and may look totally different to that of floor stocks – in colour, texture and grain visibility. If your customer requires more feature this will need to be recorded on orders when placed.

Our recommendation of colours to offset BONADIESI Natural edge are Mist, Smoke, Light Oak or Clear on Ebony legs.

O’DWYER RANGEBLACKWOOD

Blackwood is one of Australia’s premier furnishing solid timber wood, with stunning blends of colour variation. Blackwood’s character is highlighted by knots and a heavier variation of colour tone, ranging from soft grey, streaks of black, variegated golden browns and even a wonderful rich red hue.

You must make it clear to the customer that each piece is individual and we cannot control the timber from order to order – each piece on completion may look totally different.

TIMBER SPECIFICATIONS

WHAT HAPPENS TO THE TIMBER COLOUR UNDER THE STAIN OVER TIME?Over the lifetime of a piece of Solid Timber Furniture the overall colour will appear to change.

This is not a fault in the manufacture of the goods or the stain, it is actually the timber ageing

naturally under the stain. Elements of the environment like air and sunlight will contribute to

this.

There is nothing that can be done to stop this process at all it is a natural characteristic and

feature of the timber. It is important to note that on lighter colour stains the change is more

obvious over time.

It is important to note that if the furniture has items sitting on it permanently they occasionally

need to be rotated on the furniture to allow a more uniform colour to develop.

TIMBER PREPARATION

TIMBER MOISTURE LEVELSIt is critical prior to the production of Solid Timber Furniture that all Timber has a certain

Moisture Percentage that is established after the Kiln Drying Process. For the production of

this furniture an acceptable standard is between 7 – 12%.

TIMBER PREPARATION DETAILSPrior to cutting the timber each length has a moisture reading done, and all lengths of

the same moisture reading are placed side by side to minimize shrinkage in the home

environment, as climatic conditions can affect the performance of the timber.

factory for imperfections.

TIMBER FINISHING

TIMBER SURFACE FINISHING DETAILSThe timber finish used by Creative Wooden Ideas is of a very high standard and unique to

CWI products. It is called a 2 Pack Finish, and is safe: safer for the environment, safer to

apply and safer within your home.

A 2 Pack Finish gives the furniture a much harder and more durable surface which provides

a finish that is exceptional in its resistance to moisture and staining, enveloped to protect

the timber to a higher level. The 2 Pack finish can take up to 85 Degree Temperatures

Celsius being applied to the surface once complete.

WHAT IS THE ENVELOPING PROCESS?All tops on our dining tables are enveloped, which means they are finished on all 6 sides,

twice over to ensure a completely sealed piece of timber that cannot be invaded by

moisture at all. We pride ourselves on this finish and protecting process.

HARDWARE DETAILS

DRAWER RUNNERSWe use fully extendable drawer runners that take a load of up to 30 kilos per drawer. Being

fully extendable means the drawer comes all the way out from the frame for full access to

the drawer’s internal area for maximum storage.

DOOR HINGESAll door hinges open out to 110%, this gives full clearance to put goods in and out of the

cupboards. The hinges are also fully adjustable and quick release.

TIMBER CARE DETAILS

HOW TO CLEAN TIMBER

• Use a slightly damp cloth to clean as needed. Wipe dry.

• For persistent spots, gently clean with a soft cloth and water. Wipe Dry.

• Do not use cleaning products containing ammonia, alcohol, acetone or petroleum.

• Avoid all Furniture Polish as it can accumulate over time and leave a residue on the top of

the furniture, and it does not penetrate the 2 Pack Finish.

TIMBER CARE TIPS

HOW TO CARE FOR TIMBER

This unique and beautiful furniture finish should be treated with care.

• Moisture and heat can damage any solid wood finish. Protect your furniture by using

coasters and trivets. Always wipe up moisture promptly and dry with a soft cloth.

• Please do not place your solid timber furniture near heaters or heater vents as this will dry

out the timber.

• Do not place solid timber furniture in direct sunlight.

• Avoid dragging sharp or rough objects across the surface of your wood furniture. Use

adhesive felt pads, trivets coasters and placemats to help prevent scratches.

• Avoid dropping candle wax on the table top as it may react with the wood’s finish and

leave a stain.

• Over time, air and sunlight will change the colour of natural wood. Occasionally rotate the

items placed on the wood furniture to allow a more uniform colour to develop.
