Introduction

• Talking about this concept is not all that easy. The word creativity is quite simple in itself but its hard to describe as it’s a broad topic that suits people differently. In this presentation I will be taking about the different ways you can be creative in the creation of your short film.

Individual

• Often the best creative work as a sense if identity. Identity comes from your own experience and influences as an individual. For example if your making a short film about romance, a lot of your own experiences might flair up in the film or just experiences that you have seen but not been actively involved in. Your creativeness can be sparked of through your own experiences as an individual.

Break the rules sometimes

• Conventions are something we naturally follow was film makers. Its something we have to do in order to make sure our film fits into the social norms. This is what conventions are. However in order to spark creativeness these conventions do sometimes have to be challenged. So don’t be afraid to challenge some conventions. Some of the best film makers have done this. Such as playing a nursery rhyme in a horror movie. This does not fit into the conventions however the weirdness fits into that idea of horror and scariness. The confusion of a something sweet and innocent mixed with dark and distressing causes uneasy ness which helps further convey meaning. This is immense creativeness which shows you can challenge the conventions from time to time.

Mise-en-scene

• A creative approach to the films mis-en-scene can be pretty vital. The props, the outfits, the location and so on. Colours can convey a lot of meaning such as the colour pink is quite feminine and black is linked with gothic people. Playing around with this can create a lot of hidden meaning in your film. Not playing attention to the mis-en-scene can be a problem. You will miss the opportunity to creatively ‘dress the scene’.
