MACLEAY PUBLIC SCHOOLS CHESS TOURNAMENT

A team of 11 players travelled to South West Rocks Public School last Thursday to compete in the Macleay Public Schools Chess Tournament. The team consisted of: Sofia Hamilton, Luke Hamilton, Oliver Robinson, Edward Miranda, Harper Cooper, Clarence Northey, Marley Renfrew, Charlie Burke, Bryce Rixon, Alec Gorline-Singleman and Jimmy Browning. Alec Gorline-Singleman and Bryce Rixon made it into the final 8 players and had to play each other in the Semi-final. Bryce won that game and then the next which put him into the Grand Final game against a boy from Bellbrook Public School. Bryce played really well but was unfortunately defeated coming 2nd overall. This is an OUTSTANDING result. Well done Bryce! Crescent Head placed third in the school point score. Congratulations to all our chess players.

OUR STUDENTS VISIT STEART HOUSE

Last Monday Mr Upcroft and 40 students from across the Macleay, Nambucca and Hastings regions travelled to Curl Curl to take part in the two week long Stewart House program. The students which included two CHPS students take part in a variety of lessons, spend time at the beach, are given vision, hearing and general medical examinations and embark on a multitude of excursions. Over the two weeks they visit the set of Home and Away, go to the Zoo, Aquarium, Museums and visit many other tourist attractions across the city. It was a wonderful experience to visit Stewart House and see the amazing opportunities that they offer to these students. Mrs Maynard will be travelling down to collect the students for their return journey next Thursday and Friday. PLEASE LABEL JACKETS

As the cooler weather is now here and students are wearing their CHPS jackets to school, we ask that parents and carers check that jackets are clearly labelled with student’s name and that the jacket they have doesn’t belong to another student.

MUSICA VIVA – WYNISS – FRIDAY 28TH JUNE

From spinning tops to string figures, this wildly entertaining and colourfully costumed ensemble show how culture and history are passed on through singing and dancing. By comparing their own childhood games to those from the remote Torres Strait, students come to understand the importance of traditions, and to be thankful to those who teach them.

Musica Viva is bringing Wyniss to CHPS on Friday 28th June. Please return note and payment of $7 per child for this entertaining performance.

STAGE 2 - GLASSHOUSE PERFORMANCE ROALD DAHL’S ‘THE TWITS’ – TUESDAY 13T H AUGUST

Mr and Mrs Twit are the most horrible people ever to live on the earth and spend their days playing horrible tricks on each other. Their grotesque appearance is a reflection of their ugly thoughts and mean spirits.

Despite the fact that Mr and Mrs Twit like to play nasty tricks on each other, the book features one of Roald Dahl’s best-known quotes; "...if you have good thoughts they will shine out of your face like sunbeams and you will always look lovely. ”

Stage 2 students have an opportunity to experience the new adaption of The Twits, it is Roald Dahl in his purest form – unsentimental, grotesque and a lot of fun. A comedy of rebellion and justice that is a high energy combination of storytelling, puppetry and physical theatre!

Please note: We must advise the Glasshouse Theatre of our numbers asap.
