“NEVER GIVE UP.”

When all else fails your will to finish will push you even farther. A lesson carved by experience. This semester

brought big challenges not just to me but also to my classmates [3rd yr. Maskomistas]. We’ve shared tears, sacrifices, frustrations and laughter. But one thing is certain, we did not give up. My professor once said, “A group is most effective when you LISTEN to each other - instead of shouting at one another.” And that is what we did. In all fairness, we we’re able to set aside our issues and differences and worked as one team [we make a great one too]. The CRIMSON PRIDE experience was indeed a very challenging one.

The CRIMSON PRIDE magazine reflects who we are [the juniors]. It is the product of our hard work and perseverance.

Confession #1956I have this most embarrassing moment at school. I’m singing loudly and I thought there were no classes going on at that time. Then, suddenly when I pass by in the classroom, the teacher and all the students were looking at me laughing including my crush. I really turned red. Oh my God! That was so embarrassing. -Medtech

Confession #2145

My teacher always mispronounces words. My friends and I secretly make fun of her because of it. One time, I was asked to speak right after her. We were all laughing hard while she was giving her speech. When it was my turn, I made the greatest humiliation of my life and said, "Ladies and gentlemen, a fleasant morning to all of you!"

Confession 1178

You aren’t really allowed to eat in class, right? My classmates and I were eating cheese Kornets, and I hid the entire pack of chips in my skirt. One of my classmates told the teacher that I had a question for her, so when she called on me, I had no choice but to stand up. When I did, the entire pack of Kornets that was in my lap spilled onto the floor! The class burst into laughter!

Confession 567

My most embarrassing moment in school is when I was with my friend, Jhil and we were walking along the lobby, back in our room. I stepped on the slippery surface and then... BLAAAAAGG!!! ;)) HAHA! My friend was shocked and she shouted. HAHAHAHA! I was wearing a short skirt. :| There were so many people staring at me so I just looked down at the floor. Then a guy from the corridor helped me to stand up. I said thanks but I wasn’t able to get his name. Ayy!

Confession 986

I pulled on a pair of super tight

jeans for a date with my crush.

While walking on the lobby,

I accidentally dropped my

handkerchief. As I bent down to

get it, I heard a ripping sound and

felt my pants split in two! I had to

cover my behind with my bag.

My crush was laughing the entire

time!

E RISE OF SM CDO2

It’s finally here, the long awaited project of SM Prime, the second SM Mall of Cagayan de Oro. The 4-storey mall has a beautiful, irregular geometric

glassy facade, with a water feature at the entrance. It will consist of the standard package: The SM Store, a Supermarket/Hypermarket and some anchor shops. It will have six cinemas. The top portion will have a roof garden, a standard feature on SM Premiere Malls, and on the roof deck, the BPO Building (our BPO-working friends are going to be ecstatic with this). The interior open space is most probably the activity center, while on the 4th floor hallways are seats, which is most probably the SM Food Court. The Agudo Property, beside the creek, will be occupied by an anchor store on the first floor, and a four level parking building on top (including roof deck).

Klarex, Rufus stands for PBS (Pork Barrel Scam)

CAGAYAN de Oro’s two congressmen went hot in the opposition to the

pork barrel system even as they maintained the need for it to continue on condition that there would be stricter regulations. “You don’t burn the house if you’re just looking for a rat,” argued Rep. Rolando Uy of the city’s 1st District of calls to get rid of the pork barrel system for good.Rep. Rufus Rodriguez of the city’s 2nd District said the abolition of the pork barrel system is a result of a misunderstanding of what the funds are and how these were

actually benefiting citizens. Rallies were showed here and anywhere in the country in response to abolish the pork barrel system. Chief Insp. Henry Cay as estimated there are only about 600 demonstrators. The recent bombings here and elsewhere in Mindanao apparently made many people opt to keep off the streets. Before the rally, Cagayan de Oro Archbishop Antonio Ledesma said that it’s a “grave immoral act. The

Roman Catholic archdiocese released Ledesma’s pastoral letter to encourage citizens to take part in yesterday’s anti-pork barrel demonstrations. Rodriguez said the many projects he implemented in the city’s 2nd District were made possible because of the pork barrel system. They said that it would be unfair to abolish the pork barrel system over allegations that some officials misused the funds. It must not be abolished but would strictly promote a much careful and mindful use of the PDAF.

The Beauties in a Beatby Bonne Zalzos

When the Goddesses of grace, beauty, and intellect

gather, a spectacular event is sure to happen. This year’s Miss Intramurals is definitely a night to remember, as the beautiful faces that walked the historic campus of Liceo De Cagayan University faces-off. Without a doubt, it is one of the main highlights of the University’s list of events for the Intramurals 2013. 13 gorgeous ladies vie for the crown, as they strut their stuff and flashed their stunning smiles last September 23rd. It was like heaven on earth

as flashy gowns, loud thumping beats, and beautiful faces ruled that night as the Top 5 beauties were named; Julee Ann Marie Bourgoin from the College of Arts and Sciences, Jolene Monique Simpao from the College of Nursing, Joanne Rose Pagente from the College of Pharmacy, Liann Katrina Pia from the College of Business Accountancy, and Chris Jillian Neri from the Basic Education Department. The showdown continued as they also displayed grace with intellect as the much-awaited Question & Answer portion began. All the five beauties demonstrated their elegance and refinement as they gave

answers to the Question of Night; As Sports Ambassadress, what programs will you initiate to ensure the Total Human Formation among Liceans? Although frazzled, the young ladies displayed confidence with their answers. The half-American beauty, Julee Ann Marie Bourgoin was crowned as this year’s Miss Intramurals while the high school beauty queen Chris Jillian Neri was crowned as the runner up. Liann Katrina Pia was named as the 2nd runner up, while Joanne Rose Pagente and Jolene Monique Simpao take the 3rd and 4th Runner Up spots, respectively.

My Celeb Look-A-Like: I don’t think I have one . You be the judge .

My go-to-way bust stress is: Eating Nutella and banana sandwiches while watching a series show or taking a very long bath .

The beauty tip I swear by is: Just be comfortable with the skinyou’re in .

I feel sexiest in: a black dress and killer heels and jeansand shirt.

The most embarrassing thing I’ve ever done is: yet to happen .

One thing people may not know about me is: I’m actually a bubbly person! That quality comes out when I’m with friends. Quirky comes out when I’m with super-close-almost-like-family friends.

My guilty pleasures: Chocolates and bacon!

I perform best when I’m: Happy (of course!)

The best advice I ever got was: “People will try everything to tear you down . You’ve got to show them you’re strong and get right back up.”

The scorching heat of the sun did not hinder the

Engineering Stallions from subduing last year’s champion, the Eagles from the College of Business and Accountancy (CBA), in this year’s Sepak Takraw championship held last September 26, 2013 at the Liceo Civic ground.

The Stallions and Eagles wildly played the 2 rounds of ball exchange that sent supporters and even players from opposing teams yelling in excitement until the ball dropped at one side of the court.

Along the stretch of the game, a tekong or player of the game, Renzel Zambrano from CBA Eagles figured a bad sign when his injured leg started bothering him as he executed an overstretched kick to counter attack the cartwheel of an opposing player. The injury affected the game of the Eagles in the last quarter eventually leading to their disadvantages, 15-10 on the same board, in favor of the Stallions.

The Stall ions took advantage of the opposing team’s handicap. Their impressive overhead cartwheels ultimately paved

their way to victory with an overall score of 30-13.

“Our success would not be possible without the College of Engineering faculty, my teammates and CESBO officers,” Xelander E. Padua, team captain, stated.

“Constant practice, determination and good coaches brought us v ictory and tr iumph.” added Padua.

The battle of 9-balls game for championship begins for the Liceo de Cagayan

University’s Intramurals 2013 last September 26m 2013. Every aspiring “Efren Bata Reyes” of each category is eager to hit and reach for the golden victory.

With stallions own version of “sword-in-the-back” twisted in a bit of Taco of billiards as their weapon for the win. The College of Engineering beats the Tigers of College of Arts and Sciences with the score of 4-3 in Men’s Double Category.

“I think the advantage that we had over the tigers is our dedication and passion in playing billiards as what we are in making blue print”, said player Raymund Carillo.

It seems like the Stallions are not only good in measuring angles but also in estimating when, where and how to hit the ball to shoot in the hole for

they win again over the CAS Tigers in Men’s Singles category with the score of 4-2 and player Alex Rafael Zulita made it.

A very close game from the competing College of Arts and Sciences and the College of Business and Accountancy in Mix-Double Category takes the breath away of the supporters around the billiards table of Sport Zone when they both reached the score of 4 and the scoring is race to 5. The indoor game was filled with the crowd’s cheers that echoes in the 4-corner room when they gets wild of betting who’s going to win. They suddenly deafens by the silence as they gets thrilled when Roston Quiblat partner of Wenelee Nagac from CAS hits the cue ball to bang with the number 9 ball and the winning ball rolls over in the table going to the hole and then…shoot! And the whole team of CAS are all roaring in happiness and overwhelm. “We

are very happy especially that we’ll give another honour to our college”, said Roston Quiblat.

In every category of the game, the atmosphere is getting hotter as each competitor gives their very best for the win and glory of their College and of the University. Also, they shows in other side that it’s not all about winning the game but to have a challenging yet healthy and successful competition as they perform their skills in the field of billiards.

College vs College as what they name it. Both teams line up, watching their counterpart closely as if to find a weakness. The whistle goes off and the players are surrounded by a cloud of dust. All across the field, dust and soccer balls go up in the air as well as the competition. A roaring victory for the College of Arts and Sciences’ Women Division Soccer team as the Tigers garnered the gold

medal for the women’s soccer championships on Wednesday, September 18. College of Pharmacy grabs the silver medal and CBA takes the bronze. The Tigers ladies soccer team had a good season as they did not lose a single match to any of the other the colleges.

On the same day, the CBA Eagles soared high and got the gold in the men’s soccer championship game while the College of Information Technology came in second as of third placer the College of Law climbs up to its best.

The Liceo Intramural games heated its share as ever.

Different colleges fighting for that one big trophy is a setting for an intense competition.

The sun over the soccer field at the Pelaez Sports Center was just as hot as each team’s burning desire to win. Even with the sun on their backs, the wind at their heels and the dust in their face, all the teams cared about only one thing: winning together. Badminton teams from different Colleges in Liceo de Cagayan University

played their hearts out having one goal in their minds: go for the gold.

On Tuesday, September 24, the College of Business and Accountancy Badminton teams, men and women, made an outstanding performance as they swept their respective opponents, winning 3 straight matches to save a spot for the quarter finals of LDCU’s Intramurals 2013.

The players heat up as the game goes on. Wednesday, September 25, CBA Eagles secured their spot for the finals on Thursday, September 26 at the Sports Zone.

In the women’s doubles match in the finals, CBA’s Pelipinosas and Bacaros battled it out with MedTech’s Ganzon and Gacus. The match reached three sets after the teams split the first two sets. CBA won the first set, 21-12, while MedTech drubbed the Eagles in the second set, 10-21. However, the CBA Eagles wanted it bad. In an exciting decision game, CBA defeated MedTech, 21-19, to secure a chance for the gold.

In the afternoon, CBA dominated the men’s doubles match winning both sets against Education. CBA’s Ganzon and Pecupia defeated Educ’s Mangubat and Mallari with 21-11, 21-12.

CBA’s Bacarro made her comeback against Ganzon of MedTech with 21-16, 21-11, after losing her previous match with only 12-21, 12-21.

Each player gave their all for one goal, but only one College can have the gold. For women’s division: Bronze goes to the College of Education, Silver goes to the College of Medical Technology, and Gold goes to the College of Business and Accountancy. For men’s division: Bronze goes to the College of Medical Technology, Silver goes to the College of Education, and Gold goes to the College of Business and Accountancy. BULLS STRIKES FOR KARATE

September 23, 2013 - the opening of Liceo de Cagayan University’s Intramurals, the battle of different colleges marks the start of the competition.

One of the events of the intramurals is the KARATE; karate is one of the most dynamic of all the martial arts.

In our everyday lives we often forget the value of exercise to both our physical and mental health. The practice of karate tones the body, develops coordination, quickens reflexes, and builds stamina.

A one-day competition held at Liceo de Cagayan University’s AVR 1. The heat boils between CBA (College of Business and Accountancy) and CLEPS (College of Criminal Justice), every participant showed their efforts and willpower on every bangs of attacks.

The College of Criminal Justice excelled a lot in KARATE, they always got the highest score where in fact, they got most of the gold medals in competition of men and women division. Bulls left nothing but dusts among other competitors on the game. Well played. Great game indeed. . “Ready? Okay!”

These words at a cheering competition mean all eyes are drawn to the mats as the

next team gives it all they have to impress the judges.

The last day of Intramurals 2013 marks one of the highlights and most awaited events in the season, the Cheering Competition. Over the years cheering had become much more than chanting for different kinds of sports for showing great support. Now, Cheering is considered as one of the highest sport that would serve as the cherry on top for every sports fest.

This year, various teams from different colleges battle it out with their signature chants, moves, and grooves as Liceo Civic Center was waved by hundreds of people last September 27, 2013.

Months of preparation, days of sweat, and hours of fortitudes. Each time shows not only the art of winning but the beauty of a solid team spirit. From the close competition last year of the three

challenging colleges of the University, each team portrays different fighting spirit that innovates and heats up the crowd to its highest boiling point.

From the concepts, themes and storylines of every team, the crowd goes wild as each squad were given a chance to commemorate and springs with the University’s “One Mindanao, One Liceo ” theme tune of the 2013 Cheering Competition.

As the curtains closes for this year’s Intramurals, the College of Business and Accountancy Soaring Eagles emerged as the victor grabbing a back-to-back gold for the competition. Reveals with their “Choose Philippines” concept wrapped with colorful yellow, blue and red flag colors.

The College of Education Phoenix grabbed the second place. And the College of Arts and Sciences Tigers bagged the third place.

Perseverance and Determination tags not only one but all the team who participated in the competition, all these for the glory and honor of their own University. One Team. One Family in Unity. Adelante Liceo!

with Bryan YuHe may be appearing in our local TV sets as a flashy,

quirky, and witty boy-next-door, yet MagTV’s Bryan YU remains simple and down-to-earth.

by Bonne Zalzos & Lovely Babe Estoista

Sporting a black top that’s beautifully hugging his good physique, Bryan Yu wears his usual dashing smile that sure-ly melts the inner fan girl in us. He wears his favorite perfume of a sweet musk that definite-ly thrills my senses. We shook hands as we began our inter-view, chatting about his hum-ble beginnings as a simple student in Liceo De Cagayan University to his hosting stint in ABS-CBN Northern Mindan-ao’s MagTV.

White Glory An achiever in his early age, Bryan Yu gracefully fin-ished his nursing course and is a registered nurse as he lives a normal life when he was a student. “My life was [in a routine] like school, house, school again, house, and then study.” Bryan said. He may have fun times but limits himself for his studies.

“Sometimes I went out with my batch mates to watch movies but I didn’t stay up too late” he added. He already plotted his orig-inal plans to follow after his mom, who is working abroad but all soon changed when an unexpected opportunity knocks.

Glittering Lights In a unique turning point of his career, Bryan Yu became one of the models for a popular designer in Cagayan De Oro City. It started when he and his friends from their Student Body went on to inquire for sponsor-ship for the acquaintance par-ty for their department. He was chosen as a host for that event when Gil Macaibay, the said designer, picked him to be one of his models for Glitterati. “That [moment] boosted my over-all confidence” Bryan said. He relished the lights and

the runway as he represents Ma-caibay’s latest designs. One fine day, he and his fel-low colleagues in Glitterati got a casting call from a local TV network to be part of a local TV Magazine show. And in another twist of his career, another in-credible opportunity came.

Through The Lens Lights. Runway. Fashion. It is everything a model ever dreamed of. And it was every-thing that Bryan already got in his early age. It may seem that luck is really in his hands, as an-other opportunity is beaming up on him. When ABS-CBN was look-ing for a new male host for a lo-cal TV Magazine, all male mod-els in Glitterati got a casting call. They were to undergo series of workshops, exercises and screen tests. “We were shocked and [the same time] nervous as well because they announced it

right away. We were caught off guard because we can’t say NO because we are [physically] present in that venue.” Bryan explains. One by one, they were in-terviewed and made screen tests. “[We were doing it in front of the other models] that’s why it was so embar-rassing. I got cold hands coz I’m not used to it and it is my first.” Bryan said with a laugh as he continues to talk about his very first screen tests. A week after, Bryan got a call from ABS-CBN and found himself astounded as they informed him that he got

chosen as a new host for MagTV na, Ato Ni. He began appearing in local TV in April, along with two female hosts, Maxene Monasterio and Nicole Abas.“Not in my wildest dreams [that I’ll be] an on-cam talent. This oppor-tunity is really something that I love to do.”

Keeping It Cool Though blessings came pour-ing unto him, Bryan never lets his local-found fame get into his head. Bearing the golden lesson he learned from his alma mater, he remained thankful for every-thing that he has. “[It’s] all about loving and appreciating every sin-

gle thing that comes in my way; consider all the things that hap-pens whether it’s good or bad as a blessing that may leads us to success.” Bryan said with a smile. Gaining fans online and offline, Bryan kept his feet on the ground and would want to be treated equally. “Well I always think of myself as an ordinary person, like we’re all equal. And I don’t use my popularity to act like a superior one. I never forget to give back all the glory and honor to our God.” He humbly said as we ended our conversa-tion with another smile. *

this song load of times during Intramurals. Surely, Katy Perry never fails to make us smile as she smashed another #1 record with ROAR, a carrier single from her new album, PRISM. This smash hit is another self-empowering track, similar to Fireworks, but was deemed darker. ROAR accompanies a cool and a feel-good music video, which features Perry in the wild, living harmoniously with her monkey, elephant and even a tiger, and also we got a glimpse of our very own Taal Volcano in the later part of the music video.

Uncover Kinoguitan

It’s hard to dispute the replenishing effect of a change of scene. When we travel somewhere there’s usually something about the look of a place that we like and

which will contrast nicely with where we spend most of our life living and working – some nice mountains, perhaps, or lush greenery, a sea view, golden sands.

When we head for the seaside, is it the glare of the beach that revitalizes us, or is it the sound of the waves crashing? Our ears need a break from normal routines as much as our eyes do. And if we were to go very deliberately in search, not of stimulating landscapes but of novel soundscapes, which places should grab our attention?
