Interschools Equestrian Four Crookwell Public School students braved the heat and travelled to Bungendore with their horses to compete in the 2019 ACT Interschools Equestrian Championships which took place last Friday, Saturday and Sunday. It was a hugely successful weekend with students competing in a range of different events and walking away with plenty of ribbons. Congratulations to Montana Allwright who received Sporting Age Champion and to all of our riders for their amazing stamina and teamwork. A huge thankyou to the parents and students for all their hard work in preparation for this event. It was a brilliant weekend and we already have our sights set on next year!

Charlotte Selmes and ‘Roy Rodgers’ look very smart at the

start of a big weekend.

George Lee and ‘Mr Fox’ eagerly await the next competition.

Caden Locke and ‘Bling’ show off their well-earned ribbons.

Montana Allwright and ‘Ewan’ look to the next obstacle

in the show jumping.

Charlotte flies home from the barrel race in fine style.

Kindergarten Orientation Week is coming SOON!

Kindergarten Orientation Week will occur in Week 6 this term, Monday 18th – Friday 22nd November. Children who

are commencing school in 2020 are invited to attend Crookwell Public School every morning, from 9.30 - 11.45am. Please check your mailbox soon for invitations and

information regarding the Kindergarten Orientation program. There will be plenty happening for both children and their parents throughout the week. If you know a student who will be starting school in 2020, please pass on the attached flyer to them. We look forward to a fabulous week!

For further information please contact the school office on 48 321 213.

Samaritan’s Purse – Operation Christmas Child Crookwell Public School has once again supported the Samaritan’s Purse Operation Christmas Child appeal. We, with the generous support of our families, placed a range of suitable gifts in the shoe boxes to send to those less fortunate.

We have filled nine boxes which will be collected and sent off in time for Christmas. Thank you to those families who supported this initiative and will be making Christmas a little more special this year for some children in need.

Eve Roberts, Wade Davis, Elizabeth McDonald, Jack

Haynes, Reagan Willis and Bodi Waters cradle the gift boxes which will be sent overseas to children who could really

benefit from some Christmas spirit.

S.E.A.T & ‘Make a Wish’ Foundation Mufti Day The Sustainability, Education, Artwork, Teamwork (S.E.A.T) Project is a values-based program that empowers school age students to explore their own potential to enhance the world in which they live.

Through a series of five dynamic learning experiences students can investigate several significant concepts that awaken a developmentally appropriate sense of social responsibility and participate in a collaborative endeavour to help others. The program centres on the parable of ‘The Little Stool That Could’ to demonstrate the values and actions achievable by the students who participate.

Some Year 5 and Year 6 students have recently completed this project and would like to use a Mufti Day as a culminating activity. They have decided to support the ‘Make a Wish’ Foundation which helps make 700 Australian children’s dreams come true each year.

Students and staff are asked to wear purple on Wednesday

13th November for a gold coin donation. The S.E.A.T project participants thank you for your support.

2020 Classes Enquiries about classes for next year are being received. When all staff positions are filled and children have been grouped, with academic and social considerations taken into account, an announcement will be made in News & Views on Friday 6th December, 2019.

LOST Alyssa Huang has misplaced her school jumper. It does have her name on it but it is a little faded. If you come across Alyssa’s jumper could you please return it to her or Mr Whittington? Thank you in advance.

Stage 2 Writing Workshop It was a day like no other. Twenty three unsuspecting Stage 2 students had no idea what eventful and exciting experiences awaited them. They boarded the bus and drove away, embarking on a Creative Writing Workshop at Laggan Public School. Under the guidance of renowned authors, Deb Abela and Alan Sunderland, and talented illustrator Nathaniel Eckstrom, students from Crookwell, Taralga, Binda, Bigga and Laggan Public Schools took an unforgettable journey through the writing process. Ideas were flowing, pencils were scrawling and the excitement was bursting from the students minds, right on to the paper in front of them. The students learnt that any brilliant story comes with problems, something that makes this article a difficult one to write, considering the day ran as smoothly as a chocolate milkshake. Moving forward, the students involved in the workshop will continue to plan and develop some extraordinary and fascinating discovery themed stories that will be sent off to be published. We assure you, you have not heard the last from these budding young authors!

Ben Webster is a huge fan of Deborah Abela, having read her entire Max and Remy series.

The focus was unbelievable. Deb certainly had the students engaged and motivated!

Nathaniel Eckstrom offered some tips and tricks into illustrating.

Schools Spectacular Performance 2019 On Friday 22nd November there will be a preview performance of the 2019 Schools Spectacular event at Qudos Arena, Sydney Olympic Park. We have limited tickets available for students. Participation is now open to all primary students from Years 3 to 6 on a first in basis.

Notes and money must be returned by Friday 8th November to secure your child’s position on this excursion. After this date any remaining tickets will be offered to Year 4 students.

A coach will depart the school at 7.00am, and return at approximately 6.30pm. There will be a rest stop at McDonalds on the journey back where students may purchase dinner. Students will be required to wear full school uniform and bring a packed lunch and recess for the trip to Sydney.

The cost of this excursion, inclusive of transport and ticket, will be $60.00 per student, with additional money required for dinner. ……………………………………………………………………..

The atmosphere was amazing! Thanks to everyone for making it one of the biggest highlights of 2019! Enjoy the photos!

Good friends Kayla McDonald, Louise Robertson, Ada

It looks as though Lachlan Pearman and

Montanna Rides to Success Last week several of our students participated in the Interschools Equestrian Championships. One student had a very successful competition, coming away with Overall Age Champion. This means she had terrific results across all of her events. The most surprising result for Montanna was when she competed in the barrel race which is an event that is not sanctioned to ages. In this event she has a path around three barrels she must complete in the fastest time and this was against students up to Year 12. Montanna and her horse Ewan, completed the course so quickly she ended up finishing in fourth position overall!! A terrific result for her first Interschools Championship.

Year 6 White Elephant Stall Now is the time to sort out your cupboards to create space for Christmas goodies and, if you were wondering what to do with all the “treasures” that you no longer need or want Year 6 has the answer! Donate them to the Year 6 Fete for the White Elephant Stall. All donations can be left at the school office and would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Year 6.

No Hat …… Play In The Shade Australia has the highest incidence of skin cancer in the world with 140,000 new cases and 1,000 deaths recorded annually. The increasing occurrence of skin cancer in Australia is a matter of concern with skin cancers accounting for 80% of all new cancers diagnosed each year.

The A.C.T. and surrounding region has one of the highest rates of skin cancer in Australia. The major cause of skin cancer is exposure to ultraviolet radiation over many years, particularly during childhood and adolescence. Even if exposure does not cause obvious sunburn, damage still occurs and accumulates over the years.

To help protect students from over exposure to the sun during Term 4, the school’s policy of ‘No Hat…Play in the Shade,’ will be strictly enforced.

Please encourage your child to wear their school hat at school to help keep them sun safe.

N.B. Adjustable microfibre school hats are available from the uniform shop at a cost of $15.00.

Enrolling Now For 2020

Families new to the school community are invited to contact the school on 48 321 213 to arrange an interview with Mr Whittington, meet the staff, tour the school and receive a Crookwell Public School Information package.

CUA School Colour Fun Run One more week of fundraising!

This term the P&C will be holding a major fundraising event, a colour fun run! The event will be held on Friday 13th December Crookwell Public School. This is a sponsorship based fundraiser and we are looking to raise money to purchase some fantastic new additions for our wonderful school.

Sponsorship booklets were sent home with each child three weeks ago and students have already done an amazing job in fundraising towards their own goals. All fundraising needs to be done by Friday 15th November, you only have one more week! Students will need to bring their sponsor booklets and any cash sponsorship they have received to school on or before Friday 15th November, you will not be able to order your prize unless you have done this as I will need to verify all sponsorship forms. Students will then have until Tuesday 19th November to order their own prize online which will be presented to them on the day of the Colour Fun Run.

If you haven’t already set up an online profile for your child/children please do so, as you will not be able to order prizes without one, details on how to set up your own online fundraising profile can be found in the sponsor booklet or using the link www.schoolfunrun.com.au If you do not have access to a computer please feel free to contact the school on 48321213 and I can assist you in setting your profile account up.

Happy fundraising!! Sarah Whittington P&C Secretary
