Welcome Kindergarten 2020! Kindergarten students arrived at school on Monday morning with big, bright smiles on their faces eager to begin their journey through primary school. Miss O’Neill and Miss Stephenson are really enjoying getting to know all of the students and it has been lovely to see how well they have settled into their new class.
This week we have been exploring our classroom, each day we pick a new book to enjoy and kindergarten have already began reading their first few books! It has certainly been a big week at big school for our littlest students.

School Photographs - Wednesday 4th March
On Wednesday 4th March The School Photographer will visit the school to take class, individual and sibling photographs. Please ensure your child comes to school on
that day looking especially clean, neat and tidy wearing full Crookwell Public School summer uniform. Remember jewellery is not permitted and girls can wear only red hair accessories.
To Keep Track of Your Child’s Belongings You can: use a permanent laundry marker to label clothes, hats
and shoes, or sew or iron on personalised labels
go through your child’s bag with them each night
check that labels haven’t faded with washing
enquire at the office when something is misplaced and they will direct you to the school’s lost property area.
Late arrival / Early departure If your child arrives at school after school has commenced, leaves prior to school ending or leaves for a period during the school day, it is necessary to call at the school office and obtain a late arrival or early departure slip.
Your compliance will assist us to keep your child safe at school.
Thank you for your cooperation in this regard
Stage 3 Burning for Learning Stage 3 students have begun the year learning all about the recent fires that have torn through our country. Students are working through research assignments to explore various aspects that have or could affect them due to the fires. Excitement and enthusiasm is seen through the terrific work that is being created and the items and experiences that students are sharing.
Sianabel Anderson brought in her father’s old fire uniform so students could explore the equipment of a fire fighter. Addie Dawson shared a photo book that was created back in 2012 when fire ripped through her grandfather’s property in Thargomindah in Queensland.
Sianabel wears her father’s RFS uniform.
Students were keen to examine the thickness of the material
used to protect our fire fighters.
Addie Dawson shares her photo book.
The amazing weather phenomena that can be created by
bushfires.
Our thoughts are with those who have suffered from the devastating bushfires over the holiday period. We wish those people and their communities all the very best in rebuilding their homes, schools and businesses in the future.
Crookwell Public School 2020 Water Carnival Yesterday Year 3-6 students attended the annual Crookwell Public School swimming carnival. The day was cut short due to the inclement weather but we managed to complete the competitive races so we are now able to submit our district swimming carnival nominations. The novelty events will be held on a date yet to be announced.
The staff and students would like to express their appreciation to the parent helpers who took time out of their day to assist in various ways.
Good luck to all the students representing Crookwell Public School at the district swimming carnival taking place in Goulburn on Thursday 27th February.
Bojan Nedanoski Sports Coordinator

games where the butterfly stroke featured as a swimming event.
Ava Wilcox-Symons felt great in the water.
This is Sophie Watson, Tahlia Gourlay, Abigail Gray and
Emma Robertson’s last carnival, they took part in as many events as they could!
Did you know? The Tokyo Olympics will take place
between 24 July – 9 August 2020, while the Tokyo Paralympic Games will be held between 25 August – 6 September 2020 with 33 different sports featured in the Olympic Games and 22 sports featured in the Paralympic Games. There will 35 different events in the swimming No Hat …… Play In The Shade Australia has the highest incidence of skin cancer in the world with 140,000 new cases and 1,000 deaths recorded annually. The increasing occurrence of skin cancer in Australia is a matter of concern with skin cancers accounting for 80% of all new cancers diagnosed each year.
The A.C.T. and surrounding region has one of the highest rates of skin cancer in Australia. The major cause of skin cancer is exposure to ultraviolet radiation over many years, particularly during childhood and adolescence. Even if exposure does not cause obvious sunburn, damage still occurs and accumulates over the years.
To help protect students from over exposure to the sun during Term 1, the school’s policy of ‘No Hat…Play in the Shade,’ will be strictly enforced.
Please encourage your child to wear their school hat at school to help keep them sun safe.
N.B. Adjustable microfibre school hats are available from the uniform shop at a cost of $15.00.

The school newsletter called, ‘News & Views’ is the primary method the school communicates with its families. The newsletter can be accessed through the Crookwell Public School webpage (www.crookwell-p.schools.nsw.edu.au ) or you can receive a hard copy of the newsletter which is sent home with the youngest child of the family attending school on the last day of each school week.
Many families have the newsletter emailed rather than receive a hard copy. This method of communication is preferred by the school as it is more economical in terms of time and resources, and is a more reliable method to convey information about school happenings to school families.
If you would prefer to have the newsletter emailed please return the slip below so we can add you to our list. Otherwise please check your child’s bag on the last day of each school week in order to keep up-to-date with school happenings.

Make Each Morning Count Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. It is well known that children who eat breakfast everyday are more receptive to learning.
Selecting a Scripture or Ethics Group Please read the information below as an outline of each scripture group to help you make your decision.
Catholic: Catholic scripture classes are religious and are
available for students in Kindergarten to Year 6. Classes are taught by representatives from the local Catholic churches (including St Marys). Lessons are religious and values based.
Ethics: Ethics classes are a non-religious option for students
in Years 5 & 6. Ethics classes involve lessons based on values and building positive relationships with others.
Non Participation in Ethics and Scripture classes:
Students who attend non-scripture classes will not be taught however they will be supervised by a staff member. Students will have the opportunity to access technology, books and writing materials during this time.
Please make an informed choice when selecting the most appropriate option for your child. If you would like more information please speak to the Principal, Mr Michael Whittington, by phoning the school office on 48 321 213.
Ethics or Scripture Classes or Neither? Each Thursday morning, trained members of our community visit the school to lead 30 minute scripture and ethics classes. Students, with parental consent, may participate in either ethics or scripture classes. Children of parents who do not wish for them to participate in either of these classes will be supervised by a member of Crookwell Public School’s staff.

2020 VOLUNTARY SCHOOL CONTRIBUTION
What is A Voluntary School Contribution?
The vast majority of public schools request a contribution from parents each year to supplement existing funding. These contributions allow schools to provide additional resources and learning programs for our students. What Will The Money Be Used For?
The money will be used to purchase resources to support teaching/learning programs for each student across the school.
How Much? The suggested contribution is $50 per child. Please note
that this roughly equates to $1 per child per week. I cannot stress enough the difference to our school finances that your contribution will make. The contribution fees are within the guidelines set by the Department of Education.
How To Pay
Please place your contribution, with the slip below, in an envelope and return it to the school office as soon as you are able. If you prefer, you may choose to pay a contribution in instalments. A receipt will be issued for all monies received.
Thank you for your ongoing support of our school.
