Vincent van Gogh (1853-1890)

Vincent van Gogh lived and worked in theNetherlands, Belgium and France. He had a special style all of his own. His paintings anddrawings are popular all over the world. Thereis a special museum in Amsterdam withpaintings by Van Gogh.

Anne Frank (1929 – 1945)

Anne Frank is famous throughout the world because of the diaryshe kept. Anne was a Jewish girl. During the Second World War, the Jews were persecuted by the Nazis, so Anne and her familyhad to go into hiding. In 1942, the family secretly moved into theback of a large house on one of the canals in Amsterdam. That iswhy the book ofAnne’s diary is called: "The Secret Annex". Thehouse where Anne and her family hid still exists today and isvisited every year by hundreds of thousands of people.

Rembrandt( 1606 – 1669)

Rembrandt was one of the greatest artist of all time. Helived and painted in Holland. Rembrandt painted over a 100 self-portraits, probably more than any other famousartist. He also painted many scenes from the Bible. He usedhis family and relatives as models in many of his works.

Antonie van Leeuwenhoek

Antonie van Leeuwenhoek was a Dutch tradesman and

scientist from Delft,Netherlands. He is commonly

known as “The father of microbiology”, and considered

to be the first microbiologist. He is best known for his

work on the improvement of the microscope and for

his contributions towards the establishment of

microbiology.

Dick BrunaDick Bruna is a well-known Dutch children’s

author and illustrator. His most famouscharacter is a rabbit called Miffy. Bruna’sdrawings are very simple and brightly coloured. His books have been translated into more than30 languages.

Rik Smits (born August 23, 1966 in Eindhoven,

Netherlands) is a retired Dutch professional

baskeyball player who spent his entire professional

career with the Indiana Pacers of the National

Basketball Association.The Dutch-born player was

nicknamed "The Dunkin' Dutchman".

Rutger Hauer

Rutger Hauer (born 23 January 1944) is

a Dutch film actor. He is well known for

his roles in Flesh +Blood, Blind Fury, Blade

Runner, the Hitcher, Sin City, The Blood of

Heroes and Batman Begins.

DJ TiestoTiësto (born Tijs Michiel on January 17, 1969) is a

Dutch musician, DJ and record producer of electronic

dance music. Although he has used many aliases in the

past, he is best known for his work as DJ Tiësto. On

his latest productions, however, he has dropped the "DJ"

label and is now known simply as "Tiësto", an alias

which is a twist of his childhood nickname.
