4. Units:Studentswillearn3unitsofcreditforeachcorecourse,6creditsforapracticum

experience,and1to3creditsforelectivesand/orspecialtystudy.Allcoursesare12weeksinlength.

5. Skills/jobtobelearnedintheprogram:Studentswillbetrainedasdoctoral-level

expertsinintegratedbehavioralhealthcare.Graduateswillbepreparedtoworkasbehavioralhealthconsultants,providers,andmanagersinprimaryhealthcaresettings,includinghospitals,PrimaryCareMedicalHomes,FederallyQualifiedHealthCenters,andspecialtymedicalsettings.Allstudentswillcompleteaculminatingprojectthatdemonstratesapplicationofevidence-basedpractice,qualityimprovementapproaches,and/oruseofinformaticstoinformandguidepatient-centeredcare.Thisprojectwillincludeabusinessplan,whichwillpreparegraduatestolaunchentrepreneurialeffortsaimedatleadinghealthcarereform.

6. Numbersofclockand/orcredithoursfortheprogram:Atotalof54credithours

willberequiredforgraduation.Thepracticumexperiencewillrequire400clock-hoursinaprimarycareorothermedicalsetting.Uptoanadditional12credithourswillbeallowedasneededtocompleteindependent/specialtystudyoradditionalappliedresearch.

AdmissionRequirementsTobeconsideredforadmission,applicantsmustmeetthefollowingrequirements:

1. Completionofabachelor’sdegreefromaregionallyaccreditedcollegeoruniversitywithacumulativeGPAof3.0orbetter.

2. Completionofamaster’sdegreeinabehavioralhealthprogram(Counseling,SocialWork,MarriageandFamilyTherapyorequivalentcourseworkinagraduatelevelpsychologyprogram)fromaregionallyaccreditedcollegeoruniversitywithacumulativeGPAof3.0orbetter.*

3. Licensedorlicenseeligible(e.g.intheprocessofpursuinglicensure)inabehavioralhealthdiscipline.

4. Threelettersofrecommendation.5. Serviceorientationasdemonstratedbypreviouswork,volunteerwork,orotherlife

experiencesonacurrentresumeorCV.6. Personalandprofessionalaspirationsinlinewiththemission,vision,andvaluesof

theDoctorofBehavioralHealthProgram,asdemonstratedintheLetterofIntent.7. Oralandwrittencommunicationskillsnecessarytointeractwithprofessors,

*Individualswhohavepreviouslycompletedamaster'sdegreeinanareaotherthanonelistedabove(e.g.AlliedHealthfields)andarelicensedorlicenseeligible(e.g.intheprocessofpursuinglicensure)inaclinicaldisciplinemusthavetheirtranscriptsevaluatedtodetermineifpreviouscourseworkmeetssomeoralloftheStandardCurriculumrequirements.Theseapplicantsmaybeaskedtocompleteadditionalcourseworkinbehavioralhealthpriortoadmissionandenrollment.InternationalApplicantsTheCummingsInstitutewelcomesinternationalstudentsfromaroundtheworld.Applicantssubmittingdiplomas,degreesandcoursetranscriptsfromnon-U.S.institutionsarerequiredtohavetheiracademiccredentialsevaluated.Theevaluationwilldetermineifanapplicant’seducationmeetsadmissionrequirements,andifanytransfercreditswillbeawarded.Internationalstudentsshouldaccommodateacredentialevaluationinyourenrollmenttimeline.Admissionforinternationalstudentshasthefollowingrequirements:

1. Internationalapplicantsmustdemonstratecompletionofaminimumof30semesterhoursofcourseworkfromaregionallyaccreditedcollegeoruniversityintheUnitedStates,orfromarecognizedpostsecondaryCanadianinstitutionthatusesEnglishasitsprimarylanguageofinstructionanddocumentation.

remedialEnglishcomposition,andthreehoursinspeech/publicspeaking.Ifprospectivestudentshavecompletedaminimumof15academicsemestercredithoursinaninstitutionusingEnglishasitsprimarylanguageofinstructionanddocumentationwithintwoyearsofapplyingtotheCummingsInstitutewithaminimumcumulativeGPAof3.0,theymaybeexemptfromdemonstratingEnglishproficiency.

3. Applicantswhowishtoreceivetransfercreditforcourseworkcompletedoutside

Non-DegreeApplicantsStudentswhodonotwishtopursueanotherdegreemaypursuestudiestoenhancetheirpersonalandprofessionalknowledge.Thereisnolimitonthenumberofcoursesastudentcantakewhileinanon-degreestatus.

TuitionwillbechargedforallcoursesatthecurrentratefortheDBHprogramatthetimeofcourseregistration.TheAdmissionsteamwilladvisetheapplicantifthereareprerequisitesforthecourserequested.IfthestudentlaterappliesforadmissiontotheDBHdegreeprogram,heorshewillhavetoformallyapplytotheDBHprogramandsubmitallrequireddocumentation.Anynon-degreestudywillbeevaluatedastowhetherthecourseworkwillbeappliedtothedegreerequirements.Thestudentwillbeevaluatedasanewapplicant,andmustmeettuitionrequirements,graduationrequirements,andpoliciesineffectatthetimeofmakingapplicationtothedegreeprogram.NondiscriminationinAdmissions

TheCummingsGraduateInstituteforBehavioralHealthStudieswelcomesallstudentsanddoesnotdiscriminateonthebasisofrace,color,nationalorigin,religion,disability,gender,age,sexualorientation,orinanyotherwayinanyofitspolicies,practicesorproceduresinvolvingapplicants,students,facultymembers,staffandthepublic.Wereservetherighttorefuseadmissiontoanyonewebelievedoesnotmeetouracademicandethicalstandards.GraduationRequirementsTheDoctorofBehavioralHealthdegreerequiresaminimumof54credithoursatthedoctoral/graduatelevelbeyondthemaster’sdegree.Studentsmustcompletetherequiredcourseworkandcredithourswithagradeof“B”orbetterandconsistentweeklyattendanceineachcourse,includingpracticumandculminatingproject,within4years.

Studentsmusthavecompletedtheirrequired400hoursattheirpracticumsite,andmusthaveearnedascoreof3(outof5)orbetterineachdomainofthePracticumStudentEvaluationinordertopassthepracticumandgraduatefromtheprogram.DetailedinformationonPracticumrequirements&evaluationwillbeprovidedtostudentsuponenrollmentintheDBHProgram.Completionofaculminatingprojectincludesanapprovedliteraturereview,anapprovedculminatingprojecttopic,anapprovedfinalprojectpaper,andaCulminatingProjectDefense.AftertheCulminatingProjectDefense,thestudent’scommitteewillconveneanddeterminetheoutcomeasfollows:1.Approvedwithoutrevisions,2.Approvedwithrevisions,or3.NotApproved.StudentsmustreceivefinalapprovalontheirpaperanddefensefromtheirChairand/orCommitteepriortobeingapprovedforgraduation.
