DESCRIPTION

A showcase of the Pasadena Public Library's 4-week science and engineering workshop which we held this summer and are holding again in October. We created stomp rockets, compound levers, bird wings and strong hexagon structures. Most importantly, the kids who participated learned resilience and perseverance as they tweaked their designs again and again to meet the challenge. Many kids came up to me and said the class inspired them to be scientists. Girls who thought science was "for boys" loved the opportunity to think like scientists and engineers. And one even said she wants to be a librarian! I think that is a sure testament that not only was the library a perfect and natural place to do a science workshop like this, but the kids found it inspiring that a "non-scientist" librarian like myself was trying and failing and trying some more, right alongside them!
