CURO Summer Research Fellowship Call for Proposals CURO awards Summer Research Fellowships to support University of Georgia undergraduates interested in pursuing intensive, immersive, faculty-mentored research during the summer. In addition to financial support, Summer Fellows enjoy collaborative workshops, lectures, and other events with their cohort. SUMMER FELLOWSHIP FINANCIAL AWARD As a CURO Summer Fellow you are placed on payroll from 05/01 to 07/31 for a total of $3,000. Paychecks will be issued on the last workday of May, June, and July. Because these funds are distributed through UGA Payroll, they are subject to state and federal taxes, and students may not be employed in any other position on campus from May 1 through July 31. The funding is to go directly to the student, and to be used at their discretion. ELIGIBILITY Applicants must remain UGA students through the following spring, with an expected graduation date of the following spring or later. SUMMER FELLOWSHIP REQUIREMENTS Students who accept the Summer Fellowship agree to: 1. Invest approximately 320 hours in their research. 2. Vacate any student employment position elsewhere on campus from May 1 through July 31. 3. Present their research at the Summer Fellowship Final Forum at the end of the summer. 4. Present their research at the following year’s CURO Symposium. 5. Participate in-person in the CURO Summer Fellowship workshops and activities. If their research responsibilities make it impossible for them to attend a specific activity, they may discuss alternatives with CURO staff. Please note that some majors or mentors might expect you to enroll in a CURO Research Course (4960R, 4970R, or 4980R) for the summer thru or extended terms. Enrolling in a course will generate credit hours that will count against HOPE credits and will generate tuition/fee costs. Summer Fellows are responsible for tuition/fee payments. Please note that if you do not comply with the summer fellowship requirements, CURO reserves the right to rescind your award. SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS Submit the attached form and the material listed below to [email protected] no later than 5 p.m. Wednesday, March 18, 2020. REVIEW AND SELECTION Summer Fellowships are merit-based, taking into account the student’s GPA and commitment to research; quality, clarity, and organization of proposal; relevance/impact of the summer research experience to the student’s goals; and financial need. In the review, we also consider the faculty member’s confidence in the student and the research project, as well as their commitment to mentoring and supporting the student. CURO will announce Summer Fellows in April.
