10th DefExpo India Begins In Tamil Nadu

The tenth edition of a biennial exhibition of weaponsand military hardware - DefExpo India- 2018 hasbegun at Kancheepuram in Tamil Nadu. The four-daylong defence expo was formally inaugurated by PrimeMinister Narendra Modi.

Indigenously developed military helicopters, aircraft,missiles and rockets, capabilities to manufacturesubmarines, frigates and corvettes would beshowcased at the event. Over 700 exhibitors from over50 countries are participating in the Defence Expo.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated 16thInternational Energy Forum Ministerial Meeting inNew Delhi. It is the largest gathering of Ministersfrom energy consuming, producing and transitcountries.

Ministers, Industry leaders and heads of keyinternational organizations will debate the future ofglobal energy. Hosted by India and co-hosted byChina and Korea, the meeting aims to focus on howglobal shifts, transition policies and newtechnologies influence market stability and futureinvestment in the energy sector.

India and World Expo 2020 signed participantscontract for Indias pavilion in the prestigiousWorld Expo 2020 held once in 5 years.

The contract provides for the setting up of Indiapavilion at Expo 2020 on an extra large plot(about one acre) in the Opportunity segment.

President Ram Nath Kovind has asked Indian Diasporain Zambia to become the partner in Indias growth andasked them to take advantage of Overseas Citizen ofIndia, OCI programme.

Four MOUs were signed between the twocountries which include, the establishment ofEntrepreneurship Development Institute in Zambia,taxation, visa exemption on diplomatic passports andjudicial cooperation. The President also addressedIndia-Zambia business forum. This is the first time inthree decades that a President of India is undertaking astate visit to Zambia.

Balram Bhargava has been appointed the newDirector General of the Indian Council of MedicalResearch (ICMR) and Secretary of the Departmentof Health Research.

Bhargava, currently a senior consultant cardiologistat the All India Institute of Medical Science, willcarry out this role until 2021. He will succeedSoumya Swaminathan.

Ban Ki-Moon Elected BFA Chairman

Former UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon hasbeen elected chairman of 'Boao Forum forAsia' (BFA). He has replaced former JapanesePrime Minister Yasuo Fukuda.

Founded in 2001, the BFA is a non-governmentaland non-profit international organisationcommitted to promoting regional economicintegration and bringing Asian countries closer totheir development goals. Chinese Vice ForeignMinister Li Baodong was appointed BFAsecretary-general.

Rishad Premji Appointed Nasscom Chairman

Rishad Premji, Board member of Wipro Ltd. hasbeen appointed as the Chairman of the NationalAssociation of Software and Services Companies(NASSCOM) for 2018-19. Premji has been amember of NASSCOMs Executive Council andwas the Vice Chairman for 2017.

He succeeds Raman Roy, Chairman and ManagingDirector, who served as Chairman of NASSCOMfor the year 2017-18. NASSCOM also appointedKeshav Murugesh as the Vice Chairman for 2018-19.

CWG 2018: Shooter Shreyasi Singh Wins 12th Gold

Indian shooter Shreyasi Singh won the women'sdouble trap gold in a shoot-off after scoring 96points to take India's gold medal tally at the21st Commonwealth Games 2018 to 12.

This was her second CWG medal after havingclaimed a silver at the 2014 Glasgow Games.Another Indian shooter Varsha Varman finishedfourth in the event, scoring 86 points.

CWG 2018: Om Mitharval Wins Bronze In Shooting

2018:

Indian shooter Om Prakash Mitharval settled forthe bronze medal in the men's 50m pistol event atthe 21st Commonwealth Games at Gold Coast,Australia. In the same event, Jitu Rai finished adisappointing 8th.

Young Mitharwal, who has also a bronze in the 10m airpistol event two days ago, shot 201.1 to finish third inthe eight-man finals at Belmont Shooting Centre. Hostnation Australia's Daniel Repacholi bagged the goldmedal in the event with a Games record 227.2while Shakil Ahmed of Bangladesh won the silver.
