Objectives of Meat Animal Projects and the Junior Animal Sale….

To provide an educational environment that enables a young person to gain and apply knowledge in livestock production, marketing, and economics through participation in project activities.

To give project members an opportunity for personal growth and fulfillment through project participation and leadership development.

To promote the ideals and importance of livestock improvement.

To provide 4-H and FFA members with an opportunity to sell meat animal projects at the County Fair.

To provide financial incentive to project members that enables many to realize dreams of receiving a college education or obtaining foundation stock for his/her own future farming operation.

Recognize those exhibitors that do excel in selecting, feeding, fitting and showing project animals.

Who Can Buy . . . ?

Anyone who is interested in supporting the Youth of Green County

Community Organizations-Business Associations, Church Groups, Local Clubs

Anyone who may benefit from valuable exposure and advertising: Business; Implement and Feed Dealers, Retail and Wholesale Merchants, Financial Institutions, Restaurants.

Anyone who enjoys and appreciates quality meat from quality animals: Friends, neighbors, and relatives – interested people are invited to pool funds and divide an animal into halves or quarters.

How To Participate In the Sale. . . . .

Attend the Meat Animal Sale at the Green County Fairgrounds at 10:00 a.m. for the Fur and Feather Sale and 12:30 p.m. for the Large Animal Auction on Saturday, July 24.

If you registered as a buyer within 2 years of the upcoming Auction you will be sent a free pass for parking and admission

to the Green County Fair for Saturday, July 24. If you are a new buyer or have not registered in the past 2 years you can have a free pass sent to your business by calling the Extension Green County Office at 608-328-9440 at least 3 days prior to the Auction date.

Arrive at least 15 minutes early, prior to the Auction, to register with the sale clerks. A lunch will be provided for registered buyers in the Hospitality tent, sponsored by Foreign Type Cheesemakers, the Meat Animal Auction and the Dairy Youth Recognition Auction prior to the Livestock Auction. The Hospitality tent is located just to the south of the Livestock Pavilion.

Identify youth who will be selling animals. Consignor’s name, animal weight and parent’s name appear in the sale order

catalog available in the sale arena.

Bid in terms of price per pound for large animals. Fur and Feather Auction animals purchased individually or by the pair.

Settle all accounts with sales clerks before leaving the sale. Payment must be received within 15 days of sale.

New buyers will receive an attractive plaque as a credit to their support of the Meat Animal Sale. Buyers from previous sales will be given a bar plate to add to their plaques in recognition of their continued support.

Buyers can pool their resources to purchase an animal. However, they must all register as a buyer to receive recognition and a single check must be written from the group to pay for the animal.

Disposition of the Animals. . . .

Steers – all steers offered for sale will be taken directly to a market for resale or slaughter. Trucking and loading of animals to

terminal market will be provided free of charge by approved Green County Meat Animal Auction Committee Truckers.

Hogs – all hogs for sale must be taken directly to market for resale or slaughtered. Hogs will be loaded and shipped by the author-ized Green County Meat Animal Auction Committee Truckers. No private hauling will be allowed.

Lambs & Goats– all lambs & goats offered for sale will be taken directly to market for resale or slaughter. Lambs and goats will be loaded and trucked by authorized Green County Meat Animal Auction Committee Truckers.

The Green County Meat Animal Auction Committee accepts no responsibility for auction animals hauled from the fairgrounds by an unauthorized trucker.

Fur and Feather Sale – Exhibitors selling animals in the Fur and

Feather Auction are required to process and deliver their animals. The buyer of the animal must make their own resale
