MineSight3-D is highly customizable, startingwith simple menu choices and progressing throughuser written MineSightGrail (Python Scripts),MineSight Compass procedures, user createdCrystal Reports, MicrosoftAccess queries, or high

level programming interfaces. The intent of the cus-tomization is to improve the usability of MineSight

3-D and the productivity of the end user.

    Properties

The Propertiesdialog is the place to start customiz-ing your MineSight 3-D experience. Click File| Project Settings | Properties. The minimum coor-dinates are used as the default starting points fororthogonal grid sets. The cell size will be the defaultdimension of the grids. These values are also used inthe cut/ll volumes by level report.

The Volumestab denes the precision of thevolume calculations of the virtual blocks denedin the Project Limitstab. The default value of 10for X and Y dimensions will create 100 sub-blockswithin each block for calculation of 3-D partials. For

increased accuracy, solids are checked for openingsand self-intersection faces. These checks are control-lable and a duplicate faces check can be included.By default, the results are displayed in the messagewindow, but you can have the results displayed in theViewerwindow.

The Propertiestab lets you display a bound-ing cube or a 3-D axis at the minimum coordinatesdened in the Project Settingstab. This is where theslicing of surfaces and solids when in 2-D is con-trolled. To improve the WYSIWYG, resources can be

assigned to honor the stroke width of the labels. Aview of your open objects can automatically be savedwhen you exit by checking the Save project map onExit. This can speed your return to editing/linkingcomplex data. MineSight 3-D sorts the partials cre-ated during volume calculations and partial creation.By default, this is done on the root of the C: drive. If your C: drive has limited space, assign a differentdrive to use for sorting the partials les.

Finally, if your project has hundreds or thousandsof objects, you can dramatically reduce the startuptime of MineSight 3-D by checking the Load projectfrom cache le on Startupbox.

The Status Bartab lets you control the type ofinformation reported on the status line when click-ing the mouse or clicking and dragging the mousein a viewer. You might wish to see the dip values inonly degrees or percents, while you may wish to seethe distances in both 3-D and horizontal values. Thedecimal precision to report on the status line is alsocontrolled here.

When you edit an object in MineSight 3-D, eachtime an object is closed or saved, the default is tocommit the changes by writing them to the object.

If you prefer to edit an object and not commit thechanges until you exit MineSight 3-D, you can do soby un-checking the Auto Save after Selection Savebox. MineSight 3-D, by default creates a backup copyof each object in a le named .msr%. This can con-sume a lot of disk space and may not be necessary ifyour project disk is backed up nightly. If you are cre-ating backup objects, they are created/updated whenMineSight 3-D is exited.

    Tools

The rst customizationoption in the Toolsmenuis the Scalable CursorPropertiesoption. The

scalable cursor can beinvaluable when placingmarkers, offsetting lines, and checking minimum sizeand distance requirements. The Scalable cursorcan be turned on and offand has the following

setup parameters: Horizontal and Vertical Radiusand Horizontal and Vertical tick marks. You canset the angle of the cursor and have it use annularrings instead of ticks. There is an option to lock the

cursor as a ring. The combination ctrl + [rotatesthe scalable cursor hairlines counterclockwise, andctrl +]rotates the hairlines in a clockwise direction.Using the [and ]keys without the ctrlkey increasesor decreases the horizontal size of the cursor, andthe {and }keys (shift + [and shift + ]) increase ordecrease the vertical size. On a Spanish keyboard, use ctr + !to rotate counterclockwise and ctr + ?torotate clockwise. The !and ?for vertical increase anddecrease, while shift + !and shift + ?for verticalincrease and decrease.

Customization of the Viewer Popup Menu Propertiesis perhaps the most useful customization you cando. This option gives you a right-click menu in theviewer window. The menu defaults to rememberingthe last 10 functions, but that number can be increasedor decreased. More importantly, functions can beadded from the menu bar to the Popup menu. Somefavorite additions are: Make New Multi Object selection, Save and Continue, Save, Scalable CursorOn/Off, View 180 On/Off, and Selection Filter.

The important thing to remember is that neededfunctions can be added or removed and the menucan be activated/deactivated at any time. (For furtherinformation, refer to the February 2005 issue of thisnewsletter.)

The Preferencesoption allows adjustment of thecolors used to signify selected objects, primary, orsecondary objects, etc.

    Selection Properties

    The option toCongure Selection

Filteris very power-ful. This tool will letyou lter what getsselected. For example, you can specify that

only polygons withless than 500 m2willbe selected. Or youcan specify that onlypolylines and poly-gons within a certainrange of elevationscan be selected. Thistool is useful for clean-

ing up after using the Intersect Surface tool or theClip Surfacestool. Different lters can be denedand saved for different tasks. The selection lter is

available when selecting both from the Data Managerand when using the viewer. (For further information, refer to the December 2002 issue of this newsletter.)

The Selection Proper-tiesoption allows you tochange the way selected datais displayed in the viewer.By default, the objects arechanged to red and surfacesare displayed with wire

frames. There are times when you do not want theselected data to change colors, such as editing Endof Month survey pickups. The option to highlight inwire frame is for surfaces; with this selected, the facesof surfaces are turned off.

The Use Nearest Element Listdialog is avery useful option. When this option is selected,MineSight 3-D will check for duplicates objects and ifany are found, displays them in a dialog similar to theObject Contents Browser(OCB) listing. When oneof the objects is selected, it will turn yellow. This cansave a lot of work by identifying duplicate features.

    MineSight 3-D Compass

MineSight Compass can be started from theMineSight 3-D menu bar, but a tiered menu tree ofprocedures can also be created that are specic to

your mines needs. Best of all, these procedures canhave long descriptors in the local language. To controlthe tiers, create new categories. Any procedure can berun from the MineSight 3-D menu bar. (For furtherinformation, refer to the January 2003 issue of thisnewsletter.)

Programs can be run by using the RUNCMD.DATprocedure, which can also be used to run batch les onother programs.
