Recommendationsconcerning reprocessing

Cutting Tools. For Colibri II andSmall Electric Drive.

Synthes recommends using a new cutting tool for each operation. Thisprevents the following health risks tothe patient:

Number of cuts

Products intended for single usemust not be reused.Reuse or reprocessing of single use devices (e.g. cleaning and resteriliza-tion) may compromise the structural in-tegrity of the device and/or lead to de-vice failure, which may result in patientinjury, illness or death.

Furthermore, reuse or reprocessing ofsingle use devices may create a risk ofcontamination e.g. due to the trans-mission of infectious material from onepatient to another. This could result inthe injury or death of the patient oruser.

Synthes does not recommend repro-cessing contaminated products. AnySynthes product that has been contam-inated by blood, tissue and/or bodilyfluids/matter should never be usedagain and should be handled accordingto hospital protocol.

Even though they may appear undam-aged, the products may have small de-fects and internal stress patterns thatmay cause material fatigue.
