Demonstration of Key Skills:

Business Awareness: Working with the finance team at Rolls Royce I vastly broadened my understanding of industry, and gained valuable insight of particularly financial areas of business operations.

At Network Rail I gained a good understanding of the company, and associated 3rd Party companies involved with the Rail Industry, including Train Operating Companies and Freight Operating Companies that share power supplies.

IT Capability: Working at places such as Rolls Royce and Network Rail enabled me to develop a good understanding of complicated computer software such as COGNOS and SAP, as well as ensuring I have confidence using programmes such as Excel more effectively to complete tasks.

At Network Rail I had access to and analysed associated Data from two further systems (RED3 & OPTIMA) in order to identify opportunities to recover costs.

As required for my studies at university I also have a basic understanding of SAS and LaTeX. I used the latter to compile my final year project on Special Relativity (available on request).

Leadership, Teamwork & Effective Communication: Enhanced my effectiveness as a team member through activities such as the World Challenge 2011 expedition; as part of a team of 9 we raised funds for and took part in a one month long expedition to Madagascar. During planning period I successfully chaired the meetings, and delegated tasks in order to ensure effective preparation for the many fund raising events. I took responsibility and to develop myself as the group leader, enhancing my decision making.

During the four week expedition we were solely responsible for managing the entire expedition. It was a massive responsibility, and one which I thrived in, particularly excelling with the budgeting. I was able to use my analytical mind and my mathematical strength to keep the expedition running smoothly.

We also completed charitable work, building a kitchen, further improving my communication and team working skills, especially working with locals, many of whom spoke little English.

I successfully took part in ‘Escape and Evade 2013’. The task: to travel from base at The University of Birmingham as far as possible without spending a penny on transport. We made it over one thousand miles to Poland, in doing this we broke the record mileage achieved by any team. Such a feat demonstrates my determination to achieve success, which I can readily apply to a business environment.

Effectively dealt with customer requirements working at Tesco, demonstrating good, clear communication and customer facing abilities.

Proudly coached an under 11s football team at the age of 16. We managed to achieve promotion by coming second in the league.

Initiative & Adaptability: At Network Rail, as well as enjoying the office environment I also had the opportunity to participate in on-track surveys where billing anomalies had previously occurred, observing applicable safety procedures (PTS) at all times.

Other Achievements:

JFO Sports Award Citizenship Award (Landau Forte)

Duke of Edinburgh (Bronze)
