CURRICULUM VITAEChristine Young
RECENT COMMUNICATIONS EXPERIENCEWriter/Editor, Australian Drilling Industry Association, Melbourne Dec. 2007 – Oct. 2016
Australian Drilling Industry Association (ADIA) is a not-for-profit organisation representing the onshore drilling industry. ADIA has 800 members consisting of drilling contractors, suppliers, consultants and associated professionals. Members are small to medium-sized companies operating in markets such as waterwell drilling; minerals exploration; and civil infrastructure construction. Web: adia.com.au
Efficiently managed production of six quality magazines per annum. Project management of the magazines encompasses many job functions, including: industry research; commissioning articles; storytelling, proofreading and editing; managing external suppliers; magazine page planning and layout; meeting agreed deadlines; and initiating and maintaining long term stakeholder relationships.
Composed relevant and compelling content: Researched and wrote a wide range of plain English articles, including: nearly 60 stories about drilling industry pioneers; ADIA events promotion; technical articles; features; general industry news; technology and innovation; and issues affecting members’ businesses.
Directed all editing while managing writers including proofreading and editing every story submitted for publication. Also responsible for articles topics; deadlines; page planning; and presentation of articles.
Met Australasian Drilling deadlines and quality standards by developing strong working relationships with internal colleagues; external writers; advertising agent; graphic designers; printer; and mailhouse. Australasian Drilling is delivered to 2,500 addresses and has a readership of approx. 10,000.
Managed multiple projects simultaneously while attending and reporting on ADIA’s biennial conference. The conference coincides with magazine deadlines which require the highest level of organisation and prioritising; consistent success has been demonstrated during these times.
Website development and writing: Updated design and rewrote copy for adia.com.au in 2015. Designed and wrote content for ADIA’s 2014 conference website. Responsible for regularly updating ADIA website content; and ongoing website improvements to enhance user experience (UX).
Engaged target market with online tools: Planned and implemented a social media strategy that successfully promoted ADIA as the drilling industry’s best source of news and resources. Social media platforms were Twitter, LinkedIn, and Facebook. Content aims to direct potential members and advertisers to the website.
MEAP Careers was a website that gave emerging writers a place to have their reviews and articles published. At its peak, MEAP (Media, Entertainment, Arts and Publishing) Careers had 30 volunteer writers based in Victoria, NSW and Queensland. The website also advertised jobs in the media, entertainment, arts and publishing industries.
Provided exceptional customer service: Each year, I emailed and phoned members who hadn’t paid their membership before the deadline for the annual members’ directory. Non-payment meant their details would not be included in the directory which is vital for promoting their businesses. Result: raised revenue for ADIA and gave outstanding service to members.
Freelance Writer, Inpress, Melbourne Mar. 2005 – Jan. 2008
