April 2014 - Current Opus Architecture, Hamilton - Architectural Graduate

• The University of Waikato, New Law Building Hamilton. -

($22,000,000 NZD). Contract documentation, product

procurement, and Document Control, helping to refine a pre-

designed control document designed by another member of staff,

and suggesting the distribution of it's use as a tool to keep track of

all communication between client, contractor and all consultants.

Keeping track of dates in, dates out and current progress of all

RFI's, NTC's, AI's and contract documentation, aiding all internal

consultants with informed news of progress and to ease

communication between all parties and quantify targets and goals.

• Procurement and Bid documentation including NZFS Henderson

Fire Station Auckland and, Paeroa Library, and a leading role in

setting up the bid documentation for this successful application to

Hauraki Council.

• The auditing of architectural projects.

• Design Development duties including the design of a waste chute,

compaction system and refuse area.

• General Contract Documentation using Revit and AutoCAD. RFI’s,

RCP’s, concrete set-outs, plans, sections, elevations, wet areas,

signage and general arrangement plans, also the collation of

material for Green Star reports.

• I was a team member on the Cox ESD committee.

Sept 2008 – Aug 2009 Hassell, Brisbane – Architectural Assistant

Design Development and Contract Documentation for Developers on large

Government projects using Revit and AutoCAD, including façade, smoke

wall and partition plans and detailing.

Projects included:

• Knowledge Based Research and Business Development Building

(KBRB), Brisbane. (65,000m2 - $245,000,000). Plans and detail

documentation of partitions and smoke walls for this science and

business Precinct.

• Gold Coast University Hospital, Southport, Queensland

(165,000m2 - $1,760,000,000). Documentation and construction

details of the façade, smoke walls & partitions package for Lend

Lease at this Southport, Qld. based project.

Jan 2006 – Aug 2008 Neylan Architecture, Albion – Architectural Assistant

Under John Neylan I received a thorough training in Drafting and Contract

Administration including; design development, construction drawings and

detailing using Revit.

Projects included: Helensvale Mixed use and Office /Retail Development,

($28,000,000)

• Contract Documentation (Revit - AutoCAD): plans, sections,

elevations, construction details wet area documentation and

details, RCP’s and set out plans

• Responsibility for the specification and compilation of the interior

and exterior schedules plus fixtures and fittings presentation

boards of this 69 unit / 400m2 commercial office space.

• Contract Administration: As assistant to the Project Architect I

was given responsibility for tilt-up concrete design and drafting co-

ordination and delivery of the interior and exterior schedules.

• Pre-cast and Partitions. I checked pre-cast panel design against

structural requirements and building practicality in relation to size,

weight, crane position etc., liaising with the Engineer, Builder and

Pre-cast consultant.

• On-site quality control and compilation of pre-cast defects list on

this tilt-up concrete mixed-use development.

• I attended site meetings, assisting the Project Architect in relation

to pre-cast concrete plus interior/exterior schedule matters.

• Drafting variations for amended contract completion plus the

calculation of contract value at weekly site meetings.

• I completed and up kept RFI, VPR, VOR, and Design schedules

Other Projects included:

• Government Office Buildings, Ipswich: Contract documentation

including the compilation of the ‘Schedule of Interior Fixtures and

Fittings plus presentation boards.

• Residential Architecture, Brisbane: Design development for the raise

and extension of a Queenslander, plus additional contract

documentation on other local projects.

• Townhouses, Kingscliff: Contract Documentation for six independent

luxury homes on a sloping site.

• Technical and Interiors Library: Upkeep and development of the

library, this included regular meetings with Technical Reps.

I studied full-time, was an Owner Builder and held part-time work with

Drinx Bottle Shops at Redcliffe and Shorncliffe, being given responsibility

for individual stores as well as being a team member at larger outlets.

Aug 2001 – Feb 2003 Plant Prescriptions, Milton/ APS Colourmix, Geebung

• Upon migrating from the UK I was employed in a plastics factory

operating plastic extrusion machinery to produce colourings and

other additives for the production of plastic products.

• As a Landscaper and Landscape Construction Supervisor I was

responsible for one of two landscape teams building walls, laying

paths, laying patios, laying turf and planting out gardens before

commencing full time education.

1994 – 2001 (UK) Self Employed Landscaper Designer & Constructor (UK)

• I was trained by an Architect and Chelsea Flower Show Gold

Medallist to be a landscape contractor and designer, and for seven

years constructed commercial and private gardens.

• I designed, set-out, constructed and planted gardens and

landscapes. I am a skilled fencer, path and patio layer and feature

builder, including water features and specialist planting.

• Most plans were drawn by hand or occasionally using AutoCAD.

After consultation with the client, the majority of gardens were

completed by me as part of a two or three man team.

• As a student at Merrist Wood College (UK), I was selected after

qualifying interviews, to design, construct, finance and exhibit my

own South African Show Garden for the Royal Horticultural Society

Summer Show at Hampton Court Palace, London.

1991-94 / 2001 (UK) Stennett Plant Hire Ltd – Site Construction

Between 1991 and 1994, I gained construction site experience as a

Labourer with this plant-hire and ground-works company before re-training

as a Construction Landscaper.

• I prepared and laid paths and turf, prepared footings and

temporary roadways and operated tracked dumpers, dumper

trucks and motorised wheelbarrows whilst assisting Bricklayers.

• During 2001 I was asked to design, construct and project manage

the building of a garden on a sloping chalk site, excavating 120m3

of chalk to construct multiple terracing, retaining walls and patios.

Projects included:

• Redland Technology Wind tunnel (Brick Manufacturers)

• Refitting at Mount Alvernia Hospital, Guildford, Surrey

• Oxted Special Needs School Swimming Pool

• Excavations at Farnham Museum, Surrey

• Construction and Maintenance of the Arena for the Royal Tournament,

(Military Display), Earls Court, London.

Work History: Operations and Administration

May 2008 – July 2011 Mitre 10 Sandgate / Postgraduate Student QUT

• Working part-time on the trade desk I sold building supplies and

developed a better understanding for materials and the levels of

service required by builders and the general public.

• I hold a current Queensland Forklift License.

Mar 1986 – Nov 1991 Flight Planner / Aircraft Loadmaster/ Airline Duty Officer

These positions required the ability to ‘think on your feet’, regularly

displaying use of problem solving ability and resourcefulness, as a necessity,

to ensure the quick `turnround’ of aircraft, to ensure on-time departures.

• I gained a licence as an FAA Flight Dispatcher with experience as

an Airline Duty Officer, Flight Planner, Ground Handling

Coordinator and Loadmaster.

• Preparation of flight-plans, calculation of fuel requirements,

completion of weight and balance calculations (adhering to local

airport conditions, aircraft type manual and Airline policy manual)

in order to calculate take-off flap angle.

• As a `Ramp Agent’, I supervised and coordinated ground services

for Handling Agents, Cargo and passenger airlines at most major

London airports.

• I received thorough training in aircraft ground handling

requirements, learning about floor load limits, the correct

sequence for palletised loading, the operation of aircraft ground

power units and how to co-ordinate aircraft start-ups.

• Duty Operations Officer reporting to the Operations Manager.

Completion of flight plans, overflight permits, aircraft handling

requirements and aircraft charter quotations.

• Relief cover as Loadmaster on a DC8 Freighter, having

responsibility for palletised loading and weight and balance of the

aircraft en-route on multiple sectors on scheduled flights.

this since 2009 to assist with reading classes for first and second

graders at my daughters’ school and, have assisted with outings

• In the UK I was a volunteer for the Winged Fellowship Trust

providing one on one care for severely disabled people on group

holidays in the UK and in France.

part of Support Company, 10 Para, based at Aldershot, Surrey.
