Every two months, we release this product and every two months we look back and understand

that it is still much work to be done, because we want to make something CYKELN full of fun, but

especially interesting for many readers who love bikes and more.

For this we will try to implement the magazine as improving but mostly content, and we will follow

the way of communication, trying to lm and photograph more and more what happens to us and

what we think might be of interest to the community of bikers. We welcome Massimo Bacci in

fact, that from this number enters in the role of team Cykeln to tell our stories through the lens of the

camera and that will help us in the implementation of the website which no doubt will improve in

    the coming months.

There will be several improvements in the magazine and in the activities that follow, consistent with

the resources we have and I speak as economic course.

Anyway, the important thing is pedaling and seek ever new ways to communicate our passion.

Take the opportunity to thank all those who write to us, and we apologize i f we can not respond to

all proposals that are made for collaboration, but believe we are very caught up in trying to close

every month in addition to the articles and there is much more work free time.

Speaking of this issue, I can say that there are several interesting article s and Im sure youll have to

read what they tell us our characters.

I speak of Serano Tomi no doubt that he would have stories to tell for a full almanac ... but also

our friends Pier Lofrano who juggles the bmx and bike polo!

We are overjoyed to have on our pages Chas Mash Sf, Gus Molina and Garrett Chow art director

specialized that open always a beautiful window over the ocean! We regret not being able to

nalize the interview with Liz Hatch because of its many races could not nish the interview, but

no doubt well nd it i n the next issue ... who knows maybe with a special photo shoot done ri ght

    by us of Cykeln!

So even this time we hope to have you satised, we wish you happy reading!

What do you to or living?I work or Brick Lane Bikes as shop manag-

er and I deal mainly with the care o the site,

FB, Twitter, etc. as well as the classic custom-

er service, various airs we attend and all the

everyday lie that every bike shop has. In theory

I would have an oce job but there is no day

when I get home with your hands ree o grease

and oil! In addition to Brick Lane Bikes i am

    co-ounder o the 5th oor (the5thoor.co.uk)

and the 5th store (the5thstore.co.uk) which

means that in addition to the week and also the

    weekend dedicated to bikes.

How did you get yoursel involved inthe fxed gear scene? The xed gear bike was part o my lie since

childhood, I was born and raised in ront o

a velodrome, I spent hours on the balcony

watching amateurs and proessionals train and

compete, but not been up to 5 years ago that

I decided to test one to go around town, rom

there I have not stopped! I had a bad accident

two years ago that let me with the ligaments o

the knee to pieces so my gear ratio at the time

and what could use a child (48x18), but at least

I had to leave and go to the brakes.

How do you see this fxed gearexplosion? Like a ashion periodor like an explosion o passionatepeople? It s amazing, as I said beore, I grew up in

a country in Emilia, so or me the bike and

always been something more than natu-

ral, never abandoned, even during periods

scooter or car, but I have to admit that the

interest in our world and grown incredibly in

recent years. When I moved to London a ew

years ago cyclists stationary bike could be

counted on the ngers o one hand, they are

now hundreds o thousands, not just cyclists

xed, so-called commuters have increasedvisibly, just think that every morning there are

roughly 1.2 million o cyclists on the streets o

the city! And this applies not only to London,

working or a large European distributor like

Brick Lane Bikes - BLB Bigmama, are aware

o the exponential that cycling has had in

    recent years!

    Favourite olimpics track rider.

mind behind The 5th Floor would you tell

us more? Then, the 5th oor is the result a bit random 3

years ago, on the roo o a car-park in east London.

Precisely on the th oor o this building there

was every Tuesday evening or beers, wheelies and

racing skid as ar back as 2007, and o course as

usually happens by a group o dozens o people

agree that some go more with others and so it was

that I along with other riends decided to create

a blog to document our various rides. All this and

    evolved into a site, a web-shop, a team participat-

ing in various Criterium around the world, the only

thing that is not changed, and our riendship and

our way o seeing the world o urban cycling, un

and joy, putting the pubs and parties beore training

:) Belonging Seriously, I am the most estive o all, most o the guys on the team are training every day,

rain, snow or shine it is.

You, who are an Italian moved to London, what are the major dierences in the

London scene and in the Italian one?It dicult to answer, having never lived ully the

Italian scene, but I can say that the London scene

and comparable to ew others in the world, perhaps

only in New York and Portland. All the people I have

come to nd Patrick and Jason Pedal Consumption

o Macarama to Josh Frenk and Matthew Iride were

impressed by the amount huge stationary bike

around the city, even at this time, I look out the win-

dow and see 2 and 3 cyclists xed track bike parked

on the street! I eel ortunate to see everything daily.

Redhook criterium, in your opinion who

can win the New York edition?Well, I have several riends who will compete in the

boys in the 5th oor New York train a lot and areaiming or a good nish, then I have my great riend

Marc (Tokyo Fixed) that knee operation permitting,

should do very well. Obviously sarrebbe nice to

see an Italian on the podium, Frenk Martucci could

    represent us well!

What you miss most o Italy (i you miss

it)?The sun! For ood I can remedy the nest ingredi-

ents and cook what I want here, too, the culture

o ood and certainly diferent but nding good

ingredients and possible and whereas I love cooking

everything is more simple, unortunately or the sun

does not c and much I can do. The good thing that

here the reverse and rather mild, and the temperature

goes below 0 or a week every year, but the summer

never exceeds 30 degrees, the ideal or me would be

    40!

I you have to give an advice to a neophiteso the fxed gear what would yourecommend?Do not spend a ortune on the rst bike and use an

easy relationship. Although my work is selling bikes, I

always recommend everyone not to spend too much

on the rst bike, is something used or the beginning

and especially avoid those crap o Chinese bikes thatare more dangerous than anything else. Regarding

the report, I see people who come into the store and

not evendo never shot sevomotor want to use a 48x13

because he sees riders on the track or in the criterium

with these gears, then they go out or the rst round

and they understand that they can not stop! There

is nothing wrong with having a slight relationship,

especially in cities where itmore important learning

accelerating / braking rather than whiz in open roads.

Future plans?Future projects there are many, last year and closed

with collaborations with Levis and the Design Muse-

um, and this year will be worked hard or collabora-

tion Brick Lane Bikes x H & M which will be launched

in March, the 5th oor has program to get some trip in

Europe and New York, then there Bespoke Bristol, Eu-

robike the London Nocturne criterium and Red Hook.

The 5th oor is working on some new prints and new

products that will be launched in the spring to not

orget the new team kit that will be available very

shortly. The kit was tested or months and months

and a ew days ago we arrived at the nal design and

that production at the moment, Im looking orward

to it and go or the rst ride :)

    INTERVISTA DI:

    CLAUDIO DI SANTO

Hello Andrew, frst o all thanksto be here with us on the

virtual pages o Cykeln. Whois Andrew Romashyna and why is on abicycle magazine?Im a Toronto city bike messenger, Ive been do-

ing this or about 5 years(still a rookie to some!)

And I love to race! Alley cats, sprints, mini

dromes and Cycle Messenger World Champi-

onships. When Im not riding Im usually chilling

with my girl, taking photos and eating indian

take out. I would say that this interview has

happened through the exposure o racing, and

being hooked up by Bikes on Wheels and Ynot.

I owe those guys a lot!

In which way you start riding bike andworking as messenger?A riend lent me their track bike or day one

summer years back and I have been hooked

ever since! The messenger job was just going to

be something temporary while I was in between

work and deciding on where to make a home.

Years later its my entire lie and Im lucky to

    love my work this much.

How is Toronto as city to ride ? Canyou describe us the urban movment ofxed gear there?Toronto is an interesting but very challenging city

to ride in. We have street cars(trolleys) here and

the tracks can be traitorous. There are some bikelanes and bike trails along the lake but the city

is so busy that during the good weather theyre

overcrowded and youre better to be out on the

road. Cabs are crazy here and a lot o motorists

have a hate or cyclists. Toronto is still very be-

hind in recognizing the importance o bikes and

how much healthier the city could be i more o

the inrastructure was designed or them. There

is a big xed gear, track bike ollowing here but it

eels very spread out. People are s lowly making

the efort to organize more group track rides and

    sprints.

veteran when it comes to trac, and

Why do you think, the messenger jobhad this incredible rising attenction inthose years? Any differences from thebiginning? Its hard to say why so much attention has come

to messengers? We certainly havent seen any

benets in pay rom the increased attention. I

think people see us as rebels, ree to ride around

like maniacs all day in the sunshine?! Truth is you

really need to be organized, responsible and sel

motivated to earn a living as a bike messenger. I

really cant explain why some people think its

such a cool job? But I love it and the more people

riding bikes the better, so its all good.

What do you prefer: Alleycat race orCriterium race?Ive never raced a criterium so thats a tough one

to answer. I love alley cats and all the chaos, but

theyre also really dangerous and I eel a little bad

being so reckless in open trac.(Only a little bad

though) Im really looking orward to racing the

redhook crit next month, so Ill let you know then

    how they compare.

Tell us more about this new adventurefor the Red hook NY 2013 are youready? The red hook crit is a brakeless track bike race

that you run laps o on a closed course through

brooklyn. There are a 100 riders that race it and

its 33 kms o all out riding! I missed registering

or it last year but made sure to get registered on

the day they opened it this year! Im going to be

racing on an All City Thunderdome! Which they

were nice enough to send up to Bikes on Wheels

or me ater some bad luck with other bikes. Its a

badass looking bike! Big thanks to All City. I eel

like Im physically ready or the race, I ride every-

day or work, Ive been using rollers, running on

the weekends and my girlriend introduced me to

yoga recently. Im really ocused on doing well in

this race but also dont know what to expect. Im

    ready or the adventure!

Can you describe us your perect bikeset up to ride : the city, the alleycat and acriterium? Some dierences?I think this redhook crit is going to be a true test

o my cycling ability. Because o how there isnt

outside obstacles to deal with like there are in

alley cats. No cars, pedestrians, trac lights or hid-

den check points to deal with in the crit. Just how

ast you can go and i you can hold the pace. And I

told you about my perect bike set up already.

We truly would love to have you in Italyor some rides, any plan to come?I love taking bike trips! Riding a bike in new cities

and countries is a great way to really get a eel or

the place. I had a track bike with me in Brazil when

I lived there. And Ive made a ew bike trips around

the states with my girlriend and other Toronto

messengers. Coming to italy to ride would be a

dream! right now Im trying to put away enough

money to Travel to Switzerland this summer to

compete in the 2013 CMWCs. But Id love to but a

plan together or italy in the near uture!

Are there some riders in USA or Canadathat really inspired you?Ci sono davvero molti riders che ammiro sia qui

There are so many riders I admire both here in

Toronto and across North America. In Toronto Id

have to say Kevin Barnhorst(placed 10th at the

Worlds in chicago) You havent seen someone

crush an alleycat till youve rode one with kev! And

Lewis Ciddor, Australian(8th at the worlds) both

are Toronto messengers that push it everyday and

are both really ast! Austin Hoarse is a machine that

wins almost anything he races! Jef Oneil out o

philly, Big Will out o Montreal(monster on a bike)

Just about every messenger I know in Toronto is

good people and pretty damn ast! But I also dont

get too caught up in the scene o it. The most

important part is that you love to ride and set your

own goals and do it or cause its un!

Any last words or the riders and readero Cykeln?Really cool or having me here with you guys. I

hope that gave you a little insight into what mybike lie is all about! And I really want to make

that bike trip to italy sometime soon! Thanks again,

    ride sae homies!

Low and slow is what I would consider my riding haha John prolly came up

with that term and its pretty much stuck with it ever since haha the concept

o xed gear to me is just like being one with the bike I guess

    PTalk about Serano Tomi, is

to speak also o the history o

bound and or which he has worked or

more than 5 years. In the words o the arti-

san rame builder, he eels a deep respect

or the great riend Cino Cinelli rom whom

he learned a lot, beore leaving Milan or ex-

peri-ing its rames under the name o TOMI.

Today we meet him in his Viterbo, the city

What is the most vivid memory of your years in contact with Cino Cinelli

and how you came to work for him?

It was a great experience: beore going to Milan already tried to make the rames here in Viterbo,

pro-ducevo and I sold my bike. One day I had the opportunity to contact the Cinelli because I had

dispatch to a wrong piece, and thats how I met Cino. Ater a while I asked him i I could show him my rames to

know i I made them good or bad and maybe stay in Milan to learn this wonderul art, and he replied, Come when

he wants to. All o this happened in 1975, I was 35 years old. The rst thing he asked me when I arrived was: But ..

do you have the plan o eedback?. I did not know it-even what it was (laughs). So I started to commute. Cino was

a man with a great heart as soon as I arrived in Milan took me to Valsassina, in the 30s and 40s had been oreman o

the Whites, while 76-year old (here when he created his company called him up as his rame builder to retirement in

the 80s). Cino said, teaches how to make the rames to my riend and the I began working with the le.

Cino at that time was building rames?Noooo, Cino drew them. He always had on his

desk papers with drawings o conjunctions, drop-

outs ... and then at the time, when I arriv ed he had

already its good 70 years. At that time Cinelli was

a leader in the proession, created many rames

even though they had the same trademark.

Tell us the most original innovations inwhich you participated?I spent a lot ... and they were all real. When I end-

ed a ram, had to pleasure

to me, rst and oremost, otherwise i could not

sell. Oten just when I ended it, I edited it immed-

itly when it was rough and it was so. A day i drew

the pantograph Cinelli logo on the ront o the

rame and the inscription in the sides, then I went

to Viterbo and in the evening, while I was hav-

ing dinner with my wie, I put on the table and I

thought: what i i insert colour in the symbol

Italian ag type?, I have orange, green and yellow

... There I spent a whole night. Shortly ater i came

back to Milan Cinelli want to produce it.

According to you at that time whatmade them special the rames builted byCinelli? At that time, when you say Cinell, you was saying

everythings, was the top, rom clothing to sur-

ace plates, everybody was ollowing the opinion

    o Cino Cinelli.

What about subcontracting jobs to othercompanies in years 80, is that true?Brrrrrrr ...the subcontracts were to be considered

absolutely normal, the production o rames was

huge: or proessionals, or dealers who then built

bikes and put stickers o their own brand ...

I read that ater 1983, the rames were

made by Giovanni Losa, you knowsomething about this?Until 1985, when I was there, I am not aware o.

Maybe he gives an external hand: being still a

good rame Builder his pieces are highly sought

    ater.

Steel or carbon?Steel is the best or me, everything has its charm.

But today people seeks lightness. At the time I

was able to make very lightweight steel bike, I

used PL Columbus tubes oten (Pista light) or

road bikes and welded all at low temper-ature in

order not to lose the degrees. Never had broken

again, walking very well! And weight mounted to

    9 kg.

  • 7/30/2019 Cykeln 05 Worldwide

    17/46

    32 33

Do you still build rames?Recently I created a couple o rames or Amer-

    ican customers. Should I re-create a workshop

or mysel, I oten think about, but here in Viter-

bo there is not much demand on steel. I could

have organize and do a actory working on

carbon steel, aluminum with 4 children all in the

workshop, but it was not the place ... maybe i I

    had stayed in the north

Ater 60years, did you eel tired to goon bike?NEVERi would be always on bike, also because

now there are my 4 childrens working or me in

    the shop ( laughs )

Do you think that the job o ramemaker, in the more classic sense o theterm, is a trade in endangered species,or that the new wave o interest in the

world o cycling can improve this art alittle set aside in previous years? The job o rame maker has lapsed by time, I

hope that someone do it, it takes such a lot o

    passion and nights broken down!

Do You have or the readers o Cykeln(all o whom are very young), somenews, concerning particular cyclingchampions rom those years andnobody has ever said?Adorni, Bitossi ... all o my age, Ive ran with

them! At the time it was dicult to turn and do

the races especially living in Viterbo, Central

Italy, on newsstands we havent even TUTTO

CICLISMO. In Milan were ar ahead o us.

I ran that I was old: a 28-year-old and already

had 3 children. When I was a kid we had to work otherwise not taking

    bread at home!

We appreciate the time you have spent and will leave youwith a request or a message to all the guys who want togo back to the crat o rame builder. What can you tellthem?First o all thank you to Cykeln and I wish you soon to arrive on news-

stands with your magazine! Regarding the crat o rame builder, its

hard, you have to have passion. I wish the young people who want to

do this job all the good o the world and to concludell tell you a short

story: one evening near my house in the country there was my in-laws

small house, which I had used to colour my rames, I was working

there, when around 11.45 I heard loud noises, gunshots (boomburu-

boomm) continues ... guess what what were those shots?

    The man behind Specialized

    design and MashSF

So, frst o all who is Garrett Chowand why you are on a cyclingmagazine?

Im a bike-guy--I ride bikes. I race bikes. I design,

paint and work with bikes. Thinking about, med-

itating on, and otherwise ocusing my lie on the

pursuit o things two-wheeled is what I do. The

ever-orward movement, the overcoming o the

sometimes struggles, the reedom and inde-

pendence bicycles can bring are all reasons why

Ive chosen to devote my lie to them. My love

afair with bikes came at a very early age, and

its a sport and liestyle that I will practice to the

    end o my days.

Concurrently, and paralleling my love o bikes,

Ive been drawing and making stuf--zines,

t-shirts, yers--or an equally long time. My eld

o study is graphic design and illustration, so

I guess its logical that I be working on things

that marry the two--bikes and design.

When and why you started riding fxedgear bikes?I built my rst xed gear in 2002. Id taken some

time away rom riding, ocusing ull-time on my

art with a street art project called, The London

    Police. I had subsequently built a single-speed

city bike. The xed gear was the next step. The

reasons many list or its appeal: simplicity, the

purity o movement --all those things resonated

and spoke to me. I was living in The Netherlands

at the time, and a drivetrain that aired-well in

the inclement weather (especially during the

Winter months), was another reason I chose

to build up a xed gear. Shortly thereater, I

started riding in the velodrome in Sloten, out-

side Amsterdam. My riend and I were the only

people to ride the same bike to the velodrome,

and then on it. We always spent the rst part o

our time at the track meticulously cleaning our

bikes and tires especially, so as not to dirty or

    damage the boards.

We all know that you are the co-ounder o MASH, when all began?I cant take credit or co-ounding MASH. I was

visiting home, in San Francsico rom Amster-

dam when I was introduced to Mike Martin and

Gabe Morord (the two ounders o MASH) by

my dear riend Benny Weiner (Benny Gold).

Mike and Gabe had started lming a small

group o riends as a simple means to show

what, and how each was tackling the hills and

streets o the city. Mike and Gabe are both

meticulous documenters o lie, whether on

or of the bike; and always have cameras with

them--its just what they do, and how they see

the world--there was never a conscious decision

to log ootage and to make a movie. Rather,

as both still and moving-images began com-

piling--as well as local and national interest in

xed gear and track bikes began to grow--it eltlike a natural progression to share these images

with riends outside our immediate circle.

Shortly thereater, Benny designed the MASH

logotype and shield, and I continued shaping

the outward look and graphic-language o what

has become the MASH brand. My background is

in graphic design and illustration, with a ocus

on brand-identity. Ive worked or many design

agencies whose ocus is brand-building, so I

was able to ofer the oundation or a unied

and cohesive look-and-eel, and to help in steer-

ing how MASH presented itsel as things grew.

My early involvement with the project, both

as a rider, and through some o the skills and

talents I could share of the bike means that Ive

been able to build something with Mike that has

grown into an incredible project and labor-o-

love--happening how, and as it did as a simple,

natural matter o course--created by riends,

    simply doing what they love.

There is, in your opinion a connectbetween the cyclocross and thecriterium race? Do you think thattraining yoursel in winter withcyclocross can beneft the training orthe criterium race? The two types o racing both happen on two

wheels. Outside that, there really are ew paral-

lels between the two. Race-strategy, (team) tac-

    tics, pacing, the arc o how each race unolds;

and the undamental nature o the two disci-

plines are wholly diferent to one-another. There

are very ew athletes competing on the proes-

sional level who have balanced tness between

the two ull race-seasons. Focusing on one o

the two and using the other to tune tness and

    race-psychology can be helpul.

You recently have been involved in anexhibition called All chips on the tablethe bicycle Art and design o Garrett

Chow , are you planning to do anotherone exhibition? There was initial talk o bringing the show at

the San Francisco Rapha Cycle Club to New

York, Portland, or even London. I hope this

can happen in the uture, but as yet, nothing is

on the books. However, the bicycle collection

o Michael Embacher, which is eatured in

the book, Cyclopedia, will be coming to the

Portland Art Museum in June, and Ive been

asked to show some o my bikes and art there.

Most o all our readers know you orthe involvement in MASH, but you areone o the mind behind the graphicdesign o a great worldwide bicyclebrand Specialized. Do you want toexplain to us which is your main role? Both are my main roles. I do both in almost

equal-measure and with equal investment, and

one helps me do the other through balancing,

tempering and inorming some o each in the

other. My paid/day-job is as Specializeds

lead graphic designer or Perormance Road

bicycles, wheels and components. I also ocus a

lot o my energy on designing Pro riders bikes--

Boonen, Cavendish, Contador, or example. As

    the exception. There is hope.

How oten do you ride your bike?I train nearly every day. I generally have a rest-

day on Monday, ater the weekends training,

    riding or racing.

I got my drivers license at age 16, like most

guys in the US. But then I was car-ree or 15

years, and ironically, bought my rst car while

working in the bike-industry, at Specialized. I

choose to live in Santa Cruz, one hour North-

East o Morgan Hill, where Specialized is

located. Thereore, I spend 2 hours a day in

a commuter-van going to and rom work.

Otentimes, I will ride my bike home rom work,

but a car is a necessity on the nights I need to

    stay late at work.

Favourite olympic track rider?Im a real an o the hour-record riders whose

exploits live both on the road and the track:

    Merckx, Moser, Indurain, Rominger.

Track bike or road bike? Both. In equal measure and with the same love.

I, like many others was introduced to one be-

cause o the other. In the end, a true love o the

beautiul tapestry o cycling is what I eel most.

I explained earlier, MASH is something I do as a

labor-o-love. I believe that having that as the

primary motivator--as opposed to a paycheck

or instance--can help increase a projects

intrinsic-value over those born solely rom

economics. Passion, purity o heart, and love are

all much, much stronger motivators and drivers

    than the dollar.

Do you think that the bike could be inthe near uture a revolution to the car?Isnt it already? I would argue that the bicycle

is the more prevalent orm o transportation, in

more places o the World than the automobile.

Globally, and based on the economics o it, rel-

ative ew can aford to own and operate a car.

The humble bicycle is truly the most democratic

orm o transportation in that respect.

That said, in societies where the car holds sway-

-the USA, or one--in times when cyclical gas

    prices head above US$4.50/gallon, bike-sales

spike, and car-usage goes down. We can hope

that more and more o these air-weathered

riders will keep their bike as their ull-time

means o transportation as they see the health

and environmental benets in doing so--and ir-

respective o gas-prices. In places like Portland,

Oregon the bicycle is nearly the rule, rather than

We always give advice to our readersto improve their train program, do youhave any advice or advices?Get a coach. I you are training, why not deer

to the expertise o someone who is an expert

at it? It would be incredible to be able to ocus

solely on training, riding, racing, and recovery.

However, ew o us have that luxury. Thereore,

being as ecient and as ocused as possible

during the time we can spend training is truly

the smartest thing. Having an established, regi-

mented training-program and working toward a

set o goals all aide in maximizing the most o,

(and smartest) time in the saddle.

Do you want to thanks someone? My dad, Ivan showed me the value in working

hard, and being humble. I owe so much to both

    he and my Mom.

And, I have so much gratitude and thanks or

the many (bike) amilies that have welcomed

me: MASH, Specialized, Rapha, Cinelli. I eel

blessed to have become riends with, and to

share lie with an incredible group o driven and

inspired individuals who also happen to have a

similar love o the bicycle. Because you ride a

bike wont necessarily mean we will be riends,

but I know that it is because o the bicycle that

some o the greatest adventures and experienc-

es weve shared and continue to orge rank as

those I cherish most and hold most dearly.

Grazie, Claudio! Respect to those respected.

Pietro is a cool guy who I met in Milan, one o those pre-summer evenings in the Colonne di San Lorenzo, and

Ive just been sympathetic, not only because it goes on bike, but because it is one o the old guard by hardcorer

that even I eel somewhat nostalgic part o bands like Detones and Glassjaw so to speak. I t is no coincidence on

his acebook page o his avorite quotes you will nd Everything you ever wanted to know about silence ( Cit. )

Clearly Pietro is a rider, and is one that pushes a lot o pedals! Ater considering several times also in Milan, and

chatted about music, I nally managed to Peck while ring o absurd tricks on the street and then at the BFF

this year at the park! And YES...Pier is a BMXer with cons pricks!! But here comes the Nice, because being a very

curious, the boy is also dedicated to Bike Polo, and then you will see it turn on his BMX with a converted, and

lenticular or polo! I took the opportunity to ask him some questions and learn more about Peter Pier Lorano.

    S

o, who Pietro Pier Lorano is,and why is on the pages o Cykelnmag?

I am a little children o only 32 years old, i comerom Milano and i m on this mag, couse i use to

practice a lot o discipline on two wheels and

probably this is the reason why i am here. I truly

thank you or the great introduction you made

me, and conrm that eel the same or you!!

In which way you approached Bmx,tell us the emotions gave it to youthose years riding? It was in 2022, i saw some guys in paris who

was playng Flat, and i was shocked rom the

evolutions they where able to do. I have doc-

umented ( it was not easy at the time withut

internetso this means make Km to see, events

and search spot where other guys where riding

), and i ound that Bmx, means a lot o disci-

    plines ( Street,dirt,at,vert,park).

Not having structures, logically i started with

the street, and so i began a street rider. The

emotions you eel while riding are dicult to

explain. What i most search riding is the har-

mony rom me, the bike and the street. Find it

means have an orgasm.lose it means getting

    hurt

Any chances to compare with someother international riders? What do

you think about Bmx scene in Italy?Never did any international contest o something

like this. I have been many times abroad with

    my bike, Toronto,Montreal, Barcellona, Monaco,

Valencia and i had the chance to ride with some

other riends who rides like bmx like me. The

Italian scene growed up so ast in those ew

years, rom this side we can call CHILLS NOT

    SKILLS: Stean Lantshner,Simone Barraco are

some o the talented riderin the world, always

    aborad making competitions, editing videos

and road trip. The new generation are bombedrom internet and think more playing hard,

then playing enjoing the ride. Wrost ever scene

about distributors and materials, there are no

    technical brands or bmx

And how about Milan? Are there anyrivalry between riders ?Milano, is ucking strage!! From 2005 to 2008,

there was in my opinion the golden age: a ew

riders, super well together, a lot o riendship,

un and zero paranoia as ghetto star, zero crew,

no stupid territorialism! Lately there has been a

super explosion in numbers, and thereore it is

both raised the level, o pass me the term, pos-

ering. In Milan, there will be nearly 100 owners

o bmx, 20 o them run really, just run or un.

The others are more interested in the contours

o the useless thing, the product cool and light

(and then never use it), rivalry, competition,

euds, raternities and all that shit that are gen-

erated when what was underground becomes

    mainstream.

Why did you approach the bike polo?It was also here a natural thing. I met the guys

rom Milan Bike Polo and I liked their attitude

right rom the start. At the millionth invitation to

try to play I agreed. I enjoyed it a lot, the thing

I could pretty well and I continued. You will nd

us every Wednesday at Leoncavallo to train and

    bring mayhem!

What kind o competitiveness are inPolo? Similarities with the BMX?The polo scene is reminiscent o BMX current

o about ten years ago, or at least that is my

hint. The polo, strongly growing, but still at the

you know all. There is harmony national and

even international. The competitiveness is high,

dilute the team rather than on the individual.

In common with bmx there is a balance on the

bike (although BMX on this aspect is taken to

the extreme), is instead very diferent approach

to the game that is a team and as such requires

tactics and group training. Another aspect com-

mon to both is that o the journey.

Give us three adjectives to defne theBmx and three adjectives to describethe Bike Polo!BMX = true, sharp, irresistible. Bike Polo = ad-

    dictive, tactical, rude.

What do you think o all this hypeabout the fxed gear bike or Milan

which among other things has becomereally notice?Bohhh! Haha! No looks really do not know. I

do not have a xed gear bike and do not know

much about the scene. I ride a lot with the rac-

ing bike, and honestly have relationships behind

is a nice convenience. I can tell generic words

on the hype, which I think are worth to xed

gear, bmx, polo shirts, skateboards and all those

disciplines that develop rom underground cul-

tures: the rst is the clear distinction between

those who practice and who really has the

means but not practical: and already here we

cut high percentage o milanesotti ( people

who rideds or ashion ). The second, signi-

cantly raising the bar radical, describes it very

well these words o Lance Mountain: Riding a

skateboard does not make you a skateboard-

er, being unable to stop riding a skateboard is

    what makes you a skateboarder.

Today you eel more attached to the

bike polo bmx or more? From a sport side to the BMX, humanly to the

    Bike Polo.

Any last words to thank or sendsomeone to hell?I thank you! or the opportunity given to me

with this interview, I thank Paul Mottadelli or

What do you think about the DVD andvideo clip about the world o fxed gear? Do you think are useull to spread the

word about this movement?I think its great, but also a double edged sword.

A short clip, i well made can stoke you out or a

long time. On the other hand not everyone can

ride like people do in Lucas Brunelles videos,

people can sometimes push their own limits too

ar. That being said personally I love watching

people around the world rip it up, and it is a rad

    way to showcase our adventures.

How was your collaboration with the

project FIXATION THE MOVIE? Wesaw the dvd, and we truly loved thedirection! Tell us more about this dvd!To be honest I didnt really have a lot to do with

the DVD. Fixation came and captured TCB in

its inancy. I think they did an amazing job o

portraying TCB and giving people a look into our

lives. I denitely sent a copy to my mom and she

    loved it!

Which are the main risk o your job?Bad tippers.. No really though, cabs and MUNI

buses are the worst. When it rains the tracks here

get beyond slippery. I just went to Minneapolis

or Stupor Bowl and those guys work when its

-13, so tough, you could reeze to death. I keep

it sae when I work, its a job and no delivery is

worth a trip to the Emergeny Room.

I you can give an advice to a novicethat is working or the frst time as abike messenger what would you like torecommend to him? What I just said beore, keep the rubber

side down. Its a job and the idea is to do it

consistently, i you get hurt you cant go to work

and then you dont have job anymore. No matter

what enjoy yoursel and be in the moment, you

get to experience so many random and weird

moments o the road. Take photos, push yoursel

a little everyday to get smarter and aster.

We all know that you are one o thestrongest rider in this community, howdo you train yoursel?I ride with riends a lot. I dont really have a

training schedule I just try to vary it as much as

First o all, who is Chas

Christiansen?Chas Christiansen is a 28 year old dude

who lives in San Francisco with his lady and a dog

named Bucket and a cat called Shovel. Speaking

in the third person is weird. I run TCB Courier

and ride or MASH. In my spare time enjoy eating

toast rom Trouble Cofee, exploring abandoned

buildings, reading cheesy adventure novels and

traveling the world in search o adventure.

When do you started riding a fxed -gear bike?Back in 2004 I was living in a punk house in deep

southeast Portland Oregon, only had my CX bike

or racing and work. A riend gave me a suicide

wheel (old ree hub road wheel with a cog glued

on) and I built my rst conversion out o the junk

bikes in the basement o that punk house. It wasa 52cm Peugeot with a 50x15, and I rode some

shitty SPDs too, didnt know how to skid clipped

into a track gear. Needless to say I crashed a lot

when I rst started riding xed. I went through

a ew more conversions beore I nally got a real

    track rame a year later.

Many o our readers are great ans oMASH team, would you tell us more, about this team?Il team di MASH un gruppo di amici che gira

possible. Nice long road ride, trails on the CX bike,

Tuesday morning track bikes. Its important to eat

well i you want to get aster, and push yoursel, no

one ever said training is easy. Always keep it un,

nd new roads to ride new hills to climb, travel and

    race as oten as possible.

Which race type you preer, criteriumrace or alleycat race? Both, I started out racing alleycats and will always

love the eeling o being the astest thing on the

road. The eeling o ripping through a city with

a group o other riders, nothing can stop you,

everyone is owing through trac, almost like you

are invincible. Criteriums ofer order to that chaos,

pure speed and tactics. Its like a game o chess at

35 mph with 50 other people. I am excited to see

a World Cup orming. All the RedHook events,

Fijate in Puerto Rico, The Hunt in London. Giron in

Spain, Fixed Fest in Jakarta and many more. These

events are legitimizing track criteriums as tough,

competitive, spectator riendly events, this in turn

brings in better sponsors, higher caliber riders and

ultimately bigger events. So I love both, in their

own special way, but my roots are with the street,

anyone can become a good crit racer, not everyone

    can compete in alleycats.

Currently which is your gear ratio? Andwhich are the specs o your bike?I ride a Cinelli prototype track rame, working in

something new or 2013!. Dura Ace low ange

xed/xed hubs laced to Mavic CXP 12s with Con-

tinental tyres. Sugino 75 cranks and BB with a 47T

44RN chainring. Thomson stem and seatpost with

PRO ergo drops, San Marco Zoncolan Saddle, and

TIME ATACs. I ride a 47x17 or the streets and 47x14

    or Crits.

    Which are your current sponsor?

I am supported by MASH, Cinelli, Giro, Oakley, andCadence and Coal.

I you had to choose a rider rom themovie fxation which would you choose? To be honest i havent watched the whole thing so

I dont know. I I had to choose a ew riders that

motivate me I would say Mamad Mr. Mad rom

Jakarta, Francesco Martucci rom Italy, and Dave

Yoha rom here in SF. These dudes kill it!

Do you think that the bike could be arevolution to the car?

I dont think that the bike will become more im-

portant than the car. To ride a bike means to take

responsibility or your own transportation, to make

that extra efort, to go that extra mile. There are a

lot o lazy people out there that will never want to

go that extra step. Which is all the better because

riding a bike is not or everyone.

Can you tell us more about TCB Courier?TCB Courier is my amily, it has become more than

job, it is my support network that allows me to trav-

el and race around the world. TCB is a amazing col-

lection o incredibly motivated individuals who have

come together and created an amazing company.

We work together we party together, we have taken

the courier mentality and liestyle and adapted it to

t a changing world and economy so we can still

do what we love. Always growing we are currently

at 45 riders and counting, working on expanding

across the country in the next year.

Who do you think is the avorite tobecome the World Champion Red hookcriterium?Thats a tough one, who ever is gonna win the

championship it going to have to be able to travel

to all the races and do well. Racing ater a 12 hour

plane ight is never easy, and since there are two in

Europe and two in the US who ever wins is going to

have shake of some serious plane legs. Martucci

was looking strong in Milan, Niel could go all the

way i hie road racing doesnt interere with travel.

I guess well see now wont we?

Can we expect to see you at the Red Hookcriterium race in Milan?I hope to make it to all the Red Hooks this year,

but we shall see. Planes tickets are expensive and

I have alot o other races and adventures planned

    already.

Would you like to thanks someone?I would like to thank TCB, MASH and my lady Lind-

sey, you all keep me sane and give the ability to

lead this amazing lie. Giro and Oakley or keeping

me in the best gear in the business. And everyone

who shreds out there! you all motivate me to keep

    on pushing!!

Hello Alex, frst super astquestiondo you eel morecyclist or director?

I have to say Im a lmmaker rst, then cyclist.

Although, I started cycling way beore I ever

entered lm. My passion behind Fixation was

lming and directing a topic that I elt was

misunderstood, and doing so in a creative and

cinematic way. I am an editor in Los Angeles,

working towards my next opportunity to direct

another project. While doing so, I still ride my

    xed gear all the time.

When did your love or bikes, start andin which way?Growing up, I use to go mountain biking with

my ather, but in 2003 started working at Liver-

more Cyclery, a bike shop in Livermore, Calior-

nia. That is when I really started to appreciate

and understand cycling and the culture thatwent with it. Working at that shop is a large

reason why I chose to document xed gear

cycling; there was such a negative connotation

behind xed gears, and I couldnt understand

why. I saw all kinds o xed gear cyclists come

into the shop, but a majority o people who

spoke about it and didnt ride xed gear, were

always talking about it negatively, saying its just

young kids running red lights. Others spoke

about its purity and simplicity, or using it to

train or the velodrome. So, there were denite-

ly contradicting opinions about xed gears.

I started riding a single speed rst, then xed

gear, and the excitement and simplicity all made

    sense to me.

What pushed you to direct a docuflmabout the fxed gear scene? And can

you tell us the difculties backing aproject like this?Being new to the lm word, I knew I wanted

to direct something as soon as possible,

something that I could also edit. Ater working

at the bike shop or 5 years, I knew I had ormer

employees, riends, and connections that could

help me get this project completed. Making a

lm is extremely expensive, so I knew I would

have to use whatever resources I had to make

this happen. Nick Hart is one o the cyclists we

lmed in Fixation, and I worked side by side

with him or about 2 years. When I told him

about Fixation, he was more than willing to give

me his perspective. In act, it was people like

him that motivated me to make Fixation. He

is a dad. He wasnt running red lights; he is an

educated man, who loved cycling and did it as a

    passionate hobby.

Fixation had plenty o diculties while lming,

    and ater it was completed.

I worked with a great cinematographer Justin

Gamboa and we collaborated together to

design shots, gure out how to lm these

riders together with as many angles as possible

and nd out what was the best way to lm all

these cyclists. Keep in mind, this was not only

    Fixation

our rst lm about cycling, this was our rst

lm, period. Everything we were trying was

something new that we had come up with, that

we thought would work best. For instance, we

had a dicult time keeping up with the cyclists

through the streets o San Francisco. Originally,

we tried to ollow them in a car, and that was

extremely dicult; we were always let behind

and could not keep up. In Los Angeles, we were

able to use a motorcycle and that made our

work so much easier. Sometimes we would plan

all the shots we lmed, and other times we just

got lucky and caught something on the y.

In post production I had hard drives ail, corrupt

ootage, music rights issues, but we made it all

work. Once the lm was done, I was hit with a

whole new set o problems. Such as nding a

distributor who would work with a lm about

xed gear cycling, spreading the word and

taking care o all the legal work--all things I

never really thought about beore we started

lming. When we started Fixation we had

no idea it would make it to DVD, Netix and

iTunes; I just wanted to spread the knowledge

about xed gear and help straighten out the

stereotypes associated with it. In the beginning

I thought I was going to have a lot o problems

getting all the variety o cyclists that I wanted.

Not just diferent styles o riding, but diferent

people completely. Once the word was out and

I explained my goals o the documentary, a lot

o great people stepped orward and helped tell

this story. As a director, I only had a ew days

with these guys to try and tell their story and to

portray their outlook on xed gear cycling.

Can you describe to our readers theconcept behind Fixation? My main goal behind Fixation was to create an

entertaining, cinematic, and positive lm about

xed gear cycling. I wanted to show a varietyo cyclists in beautiul locations up and down

Caliornia. The rst thing I told my crew when

we started making Fixation was that I want-

ed this to look beautiul, and to capture these

cyclists in an artul manner while telling their

diferent stories and explaining to all, the variety

    within xed gear riding.

Any plan to move to Italy and flmsome History o Cycling?Nothing would please me more than to capture

the history, scenery and cycling liestyle in Italy.

The main reason we stayed in Caliornia is be-

cause that is what our budget allotted or. We

all lived in Los Angeles, and I had moved rom

the San Francisco Bay Area, so I had amily and

connections that we were able to work with.

Hal o Fixation is showing the terrain and the

cities. I really tried to capture the personality o

the cities; each cyclist elt so much connection

to their city, and I had to make sure I portrayed

it honestly and in a way that we saw tting to

their story. Every cyclists opinion about xed

gear cycling was always associated with where

    they were riding.

Do you have some tricks or the newflmmakers who want to start flmingtheir frst fxed gear video?Film everything, you never know what is going

to work in the cutting room. Get creative with

your angles and shot selection, look at what

other people have done and nd a diferent

or better way to do it. Chose your locations

wisely; having someone speed down a hill in

the suburbs, or having someone speed down

a hill with the beautiul mountains or busy LA

streets can be the diference o a great shot and

a boring one. One o my regrets about Fixation

was the lack o location we were able to visit.

With such a tight schedule and lack o unds,

we didnt have a choice, but I wish I could have

travelled so much urther. I you are going to di-

rect something like this, be prepared to also be

a cameraman, a producer, a publicist, an editor,

whatever it takes to make it all work out.

Some last words or reader, riders andflmmakers? While making Fixation I heard many diferent

cyclists talk about a connection or a reedom

they got while cycling; I have to say, I agree.Cycling can be so much more than a means

o transportation. I try not to get to deep

with it, just get out there and enjoy the riding

experience. As or the lmmakers; put in the

time and dedication it takes to make a lm, and

you will be happy with the results. When I was

editing Fixation, I never took a day of, my mind

could not stop, and I was committed to creating

the best nal version o what we lmed, and

I think we were successul. Lastly, work with

people who have the same motivation as you

At the gates o Turin, almost spring2013.Yet not I ocus well the middle-aged man who

stands beore me, standing, looks me in the

eyes with a erceness and boldness that I

sometimes conuse it. I I were a ootball an

in ront o me I would have the equivalent o

Gabriel Batistuta, or maybe not the biggest o

them all, but one whose career is studded with

precious gems and maybe, i ate had been less

the adverse would have a place reserved in

the Olympus o the sport. But here, as always,

we talk about cycling, perhaps on the track,

and then here in ront o me I have the great

Octavio Dazzan. Now that we have a singular

a pope Argentinian o Italian descent, today I

have the privilege to have a chat with a large

Argentine naturalized Italian or many years (or

the curious add that yes, he knew Dazzan years

ago Jorge Mario Bergoglio aka Pope Frances-

co I guess her gasp ront o the TV this recent

March 13). We speak o a sample o nine Italian

titles, three gold Europeans, our silvers world

going only briey, with a career spanning 13

years. Arrival at his shop-shop-storage in one

aternoon that he already knows the spring de-

spite the crisp air, the rst eeling is to get more

in a shelter in one o those aseptic atelier bicy-

cle that are all the rage today , especially here

in the north. Not here, they are in a workshop,

rst o all, as it should be dusty, ull o bits and

pieces whose order is known only to the master,

I can not help but admire the enchanted racks

with rames hanging above the name Dazzan,

c is still so much steel here to lord it be it road,

mountain bike (ew) and some real gem rom

the track. Octavio starts talking and it really is

a river in ood, the curse does not have a tape

recorder with me, but I take a ew notes and I

ocus my attention on the most o his words

and the gestures o those calloused hands andsoaked in grease that only true mechanics.

This ollowing is only the rst part o the inter-

view, continue to the next issue with, among

other things, the amazing story o how ugo de

rosa made me miss the Olympics in Moscow in

1980, then I would say that should ollow us!

Hello Octavio, tell me in short thejourney that brought you here romArgentina, near Turin? My career began early and immediately at the

best, at age 17 in 1975 (this writer had yet to

    OcTAVIODAZZANdi Riccardo Volpe

Ora ti racconto di quella volta

    che De Rosa (parte 1)

be born NDT) win the world championship o juniors running or the Argentine national team, the year ollow-

ing step to run or the Italian national team and now I nd mysel also national champion. The Olympics are

almost at the gates (Moscow 1980) and is now an ambitious goal, but I do not want to give up or anything

in the world. Check to that appointment trained and point immediately above, the shape is the right one and

everything was hope. But things went diferently, and also because I later ound out (in the second part). The

ollowing year I went proessional and began the season o victories that matter, around the Europe and the

    world, including Japan.

You also underway in the Japanese keirin, you want to tell us something?Well, there was an appropriate choice dictated by the needs o the rebirth o Japan ater Hiroshima. By law

were established keirin racing and betting related to it, in Japan today there are about seventy (yes, you read

that right, seventy) velodrome and everything ollows a strict regimentation halway between the Shaolin

monks and the military. I a tournament lasts three days keirin athletes are there, in the velodrome closed or

our days without seeing anyone, without talking to anyone. I during the entry o the velodrome a runner is

allowed to even lit his head is disqualied: could have made a nod to a punter in league with him. The keirin

school lasts our years, it is very tough and extreme-

ly geared to that specic discipline, a good runner

Japanese keirin is almost never a complete rider,

certainly will sufer in all other disciplines, including

    the same speed.

So this cyclist are considered, a kind oheroes? On the contrary, in all honesty are regarded by us as

the jockeys, nothing more than a number to bet on

with more or less likely to win. Are more cursed in

case o deeat that acclaimed when they win. From

them that the rewards are great and not so dicult

to live well only with the races even i youre a cham-

pion, just because everything is unctional to betting.

You think this is a way to re-launch orcycling even here?Absolutely not, there are prerequisites and now,

even more spaces. Okay, tell me a little as took

a meticulous care o the technical aspects o the

bike beore the race. Look, my bike had a actory in

Argentina, I was born there in the middle, the bike

to me I have always controlled in all respects. The

ew times I delegated the mechanical aspect I only

caught the great disappointments, like the time aspeed tournament in Berlin, where at the beginning

o the sprint I leaned back handlebar, because o

that ool .... (note name removed, I tell you in private

then) he had orgotten to tighten the bolt o the

pipe. But I did it anyway my sprint, losing hal wheel.

You have experienced a lot in 80 years, what is your experience?(As we speak we approach a masterpiece o bicycle,

developed by the same Dazzan in collaboration with

Sannino, or today there are ve examples).

Yes always looking or new solutions, in a ew had

guessed that the essential thing was the rigidity

combined aerodynamics, all this in the era prior

to Mosers hour record and all that ollowed, we

were pioneers. I was among the rst to adopt

the hoops araya with V, the rst to adopt the

lenticular even when the carbon was unknown

    to most people.

This bike was a project o my own withSannino (someone said Cinelli Laser?)Are actually steel core axial to the rame, then

careened with berglass, you get a mix o great

    rigidity and perect aerodynamic perormance,

without giving too much weight. All ideas and

suggestions rom which then the big brands

manuacturers have tapped once passed to the

carbon ber monocoque and the concept o,

only that we were in 1981!

About builders, you sell bikes brandedwith your name, how you manage toconduct the business o a small brandtoday? With efort, with great efort. The era o the

steel rame is nice and ecient long over, the

amateur cyclist is no longer attracted to the

steel rame. These (we are overwhelmed by

dozens o specimens in steel rames with some

very special pipe sections are reminiscent o

the stellar glyco until allottagonale) does not

want them any more, are on sale here or years

now and i there is no above the big brand no

one cares about those who call themselves am-

ateurs, who do not want then to know that even

the big brand in turn buys himsel in the east

and adds his graphics. In the end, nowadays, so

I do too, I joined a buying group and I get the

rames almost ready and I do assemble, both

or my clients, both or the youth competitive

team that I ollow or years.

For this frst part we stop here, thesequel to the next issue!

    CORNER.

Vulpine Harrington rain jacketit was so much time I was looking or a jacket or the transition period between winter

and spring. When you start to sweat weight on the bike and do not know how to dress.

I stumbled across the site Vulpine clothing realizing that most o the products that are

waterproo. The product in question is the harrington jacket Rain. This spring jacket

allows you to pedal smoothly even during the most intense rain, leaving you completely

dry. The jacket has a pocket on the back that allows perspiration. The closure at the

neck is magnetic, and overall the jacket has our pockets, two classic side to enter a

phone and keys and two on the back and one on the let pectoral more capacious to

bring everything you need or your outings. A very well-made jacket, designed or those

who need to star comortable and still remain mostly dry and always elegant. Cost, we

are about 120 euros and you can be sure that its worth it all.

Met Stradivarius HesToday Im doing a review o one o the best road helmets. The model in

question is the Stradivarius Hes Elite rom Met Helmets. The helmet in a

preliminary analysis (visual) is very good, total black look with glossy black

conjunctions and logo on both sides Met in UV printing. Inside unlike other

helmets that have media in abric or comort with the head o the Strad-

ivarius presents silicon supports that once in contact with the head make

the helmet ultra stable also in the ront part o the classic support o cloth

is been supplanted by a single piece o molded silicone to ensure greater

stability to the helmet. These precautions you notice when you leave a

bike, a helmet does not move remains rmly on the head even turning, the

ront air intakes allow us to be ventilated to ensure maximum a huge com-

ort. The laces o connection are very durable and adjustable according to the eatures o our head. Helmet super light, it almost

seems not to have it. My compliments to Met Helmets and would highly recommend the purchase.

Knog Sausage LockThe Australians boys o Knog do not need to be presented, and their products are always at the

top and almost all the riders on their bikes at least one o the Knog light or computerino ... Well this

summer and we have several surprises in the meantime there present a couple ... Thats due to arrive

on Knog Party Coil sent to us specifcally to be tested and evaluated. As stated in their press release,

summer comes and with it, the desire to stay out all night partying, so we need to tie our bikes and

be sure to fnd them again even ater a night o drunken cosmic. The Party Coil is very cute, lets

start with this in the meantime. It has dierent colors and is almost a bracelet i you rolled the arm.

Long extension 1.3 meters, weighs about 330 grams and has a silicone body that fts perectly to the

shape o the bike. The cables o twisted steel are covered by a thick part o silicone and end up on

the part o the lock which in turn is enveloped by pvc. What makes this rather resistant Lock is the

act o having the core fber that crushes beore cutting, making a little longer rognoso inexperi-

enced thie to take away the possibility o the bike. Clearly there are all o the limitations applicable

to this object that is in our opinion the object in addition, to take with you to attach the wheels to

the rame. The same Knog gives as a nice saety assessment 30 o 100! However, it is a very interest-

ing object or the size o collections and the multitude o colors in which it is ound that as many as

12 are ... Interesting security remain the 1000 combinations o keys that have made or this purpose

and that should make it rather more difcult an eventual cloning o keys.
