3UWRF 2011 } NANDURIN KARANG AWAK | CULTIVATE THE LAND WITHIN
WELCOMESince its inception in 2004, the Ubud Writers & Readers Festival has been known globally as the most respected event for promoting sus-tainable education through art and literary works, involving authors and audiences from five continents. The 2011 theme, Nanduring Karang Awak (Cultivate the Land Within), captures a remarkable journey through time inspired by one of Bali’s greatest poets, Ida Pedanda Made Sidemen, who passed away in 1984 at the age of 126 years. His works of countless inspirations have sustained Bali’s magical and deep connection with nature and tradition.
ExxonMobil, as the world’s premier Oil and Gas producer, has also been making a difference in Indonesia for over a century. Where ever we operate, we place great emphasis on the importance of education for the development of a better Indonesia.
Education is a pillar of ExxonMobil’s community development pro-gram. Aligned with the objective of this Festival, we seek to im-prove the lives of Indonesia’s young generation enabling them to thrive in this fast-paced globalized world. As a multinational com-pany in the energy sector, we employ the most advanced technology and greatest talents. Our support for the Children & Youth Program in the 2011 Ubud Writers & Readers Festival further underscores our commitment to develop that talent in Indonesia’s children.

proud to be able to bring a group of students from BO-
JONEGORO in East Java to join the festival. Bojonegoro
(older spelling Bodjanegara) is a regency in East Java,
Indonesia, about 110 km west of Surabaya. Bojonegoro
is located in the inland part of northern Java plain, on
the banks of the Bengawan Solo river, the largest river in
Java.
For many of these children, this will be their first time
away from their regency and we welcome them warmly.
The children will be staying in Ubud for the festival, and
