Day 1: Arrival in Bogotá 

This is the start of an exci ng journey through a country that has so much diversity and so many beau ful places that it will take your breath away. We will give you a warm welcome at the airport and your private driver will bring you to your centrally located hotel in the capital city of Colombia. Bienvenido a Colombia! (‐/‐/‐) 

Day 2: City Tour Bogotá & Biking Tour   

Ciclovia in Bogotá (Sundays & Holidays) Today you will take part in the Ciclovia and explore the city of Bogota by bike. The “Ciclovia” takes place on Sundays and holidays and on these days about 200km of main road is closed for everyone who wants to get ac ve ‐ on their bike, jogging, on rollerblades, going out with the dog or the whole family! There are also free aerobic classes in many parks where anyone can take part. Enjoy a great local unique experience by being part of Bogotá’s Ciclovia! 

The biking tour starts from the city’s historical centre, finishing in the picturesque neighbourhood of Usaquen, in the north of the city. Here, you will visit a local handicra  market. During your ride you will explore the different neighbourhoods of the city.  City Tour by bike (any other Sunday/Holidays) 

Today, you will explore Bogotá by bike. The tour starts with a ride through the historical part of Bogotá, La Candelaria. You will pass several churches and squares and experience the different architectural styles that make up 

 

 

 

 

the old town of Bogotá. You will also visit the enormous bull ring, where toreros used to fight against furious bulls. You will visit some of the most beau ful parks of Bogotá and have the opportunity to taste freshly‐made fruit juice in a typical Colombian fruit market. We’ll also encounter the city’s thriving graffi  scene. Avoid traffic jams in this bustling city and explore Bogotá by bike! 

In the a ernoon, you will visit the historic downtown of Bogotá “La Candelaria” with its magnificent churches, the government palace and the "Plaza Bolivar.” A er, you will visit the gold museum which holds the world’s largest collec on of gold pieces and the museum of Botero (closed on Tuesdays) where you can marvel at the many great art works of this famous Colombian ar st. 

Bogotá is an inspiring city that has something new to offer every day. In 2010, Bogotá was selected as a Must See Des na on by the renowned newspaper The New York Times. Dive into a city that offers a variety of art & culture, recrea on, sports and science. (B/‐/‐) 

Day 3: Visit Zipaquirá, walk around lake Guatavita or visit Nemoton & transfer to Villa de Leyva 

Today you will head to the colonial town Villa de Leyva which is about 4 hours from the capital city. On the way you can decide where you want to make a stop – at the salt cathedral Zipaquira, the salt mine Nemocon or the lagoon Guatavita. 

Salt Cathedral Zipaquirá 

Before you head to Villa de Leyva, you will visit the beau ful town of Zipaquirá to visit an underground salt mine with a Cathedral inside. Once at the end of the Cathedral, you will come across three sec ons with an impressive large cross in the main one.  A simple but comprehensive movie will show you the dimensions of the mine and the history of it. 

Guatavita´s Sacred Lake 

 

 

 

 

Alterna vely, you will be driven to visit Guatavita´s Sacred Lake (1 hour and 30 minutes’ drive from Bogotá) where you will learn about the El Dorado legend and the connec on it has with some of the Gold Museum pieces. You can enjoy a nice hike around this magical lake, which sits at around a 3.000‐meter al tude. 

Visit of the salt mine Nemocon 

Alterna vely, you can visit the salt mine of Nemocon. This adventure takes you 60‐meter underground, where you’ll see impressive rock and salt forma ons,  mirror‐like lakes and a pond of wishes. A er, you will visit the chapel “La Virgen del Carmen” and the heart of the Nemocon mine. 

A er your chosen visit, you will head on to Villa de Leyva, a pre y colonial village.  Discover its churches and Spanish colonial buildings as well as several sights in the surrounding of Villa de Leyva.  Wandering its streets, you’ll encounter big windows, Moorish balconies and white facades. Be enchanted by the magic of this special and unique town. (B/‐/‐)  

Day 4: Visit sights in Villa de Leyva & return to Bogotá & Flight to Armenia 

Today you will visit the Santo Ecce Homo Monastery, built in 1620 by Dominicans as a centre of evangelisa on, and the El Fosil museum, which boasts a fascina ng collec on of pieces including an almost‐complete kronosaurus fossil found in 1977. You will also visit “El Infiernito”‐ a pre‐ Colombian Muisca site, once a centre of religious ceremonies and spiritual purifica on rites, as well as a rudimentary astronomical observatory. It is 

 

 

 

 

also possible to visit Villa de Leyva by horse. A er, you will return to Bogotá to catch your flight to the coffee region. (B/‐/‐) 

Day 5: Visit Wax Palm forest Carbonera 

Surrounded by majes c mountains, Wax Palm forest Carbonera serves as a natural habitat for many unique species. You will enjoy the amazing flora and fauna of this area. This beau ful landscape is located up to 3.800‐meters above sea level and is home to the world’s tallest wax palms (up to 70 meters). Get to know a li le bit more about the local culture of this region by visi ng an ancient path which has been used by indigenous tribes for more than 800 years. The tour will be done in a Jeep Willy’s, which is the tradi onal vehicle of this region. (B/‐/‐)  

Day 6: Coffee Farm Experience & Flight to Medellin 

Today you will learn everything about the world of coffee. The en re process ‐ from the bush un l the finished cup of coffee – will be covered in this planta on tour. Your coffee expert will share his/her comprehensive knowledge of coffee with you and reveal some secrets of plan ng, harves ng, washing and drying the coffee. Get carried away by the smell and taste of one of the best coffees of the world. A erwards, you will be taken to the airport to catch your flight to Medellín – the city of eternal spring! (B/‐/‐) 

Day 7: Day Trip Santa Fe de An oquia

the capital of An oquia. The city dates back to colonial  mes, and features narrow streets and grand Spanish buildings. Strolling the streets, you’ll feel as though  me has stood s ll.  (B/‐/‐)  

Day 8: City tour Medellín with focus on transforma on of the city & Flight to Cartagena 

Just over 20‐years ago, Medellin was one of the most dangerous ci es in the world. Back in the early 90s, hun ng on Pablo Escobar, the head of Medellin's drug cartel was at its peak, eventually ending the reign of “El Patrón”. 

The struggles con nued un l the turn of the millennium, however, around 2002 Medellin began to change. Intelligent local poli cians started to invest heavily in infrastructure and public educa on ‐ successfully. Today the “City of Eternal Spring” is one of the most innova ve metropolises in the world. Join us on an exci ng tour through the history and present‐day of Medellin and learn more about the transforma on of this fascina ng metropolis. In the a ernoon, you will be taken to the airport to catch your flight to Cartagena on the Caribbean Coast. (B/‐/‐) 

Day 9: City of Cartagena  

Today you will explore Cartagena, one of the most popular ci es in Colombia, coined the "Pearl of the Caribbean". One of the country’s premier culture and history des na ons, its colonial walled city and fortress were designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1984. The city combines impressive modern and colonial architecture built by the 

 

 

 

Spanish, preserving the past and the memories of the struggle of that  me. 

During your city tour you will visit two monuments which are of great historical value outside the old city. San Felipe de Barajas is a fortress built to defend the city. The monastery and church of La Candelaria, perched on the hill de La Pope, are outstanding examples of religious and colonial architecture. From here you will enjoy an amazing view. 

You will also visit Getsemaní. Lively and beau ful, the appeal of Getsemaní lies more with its people than its buildings. This upcoming neighbourhood sits just around the corner of the historical centre. (B/‐/‐) 

Day 10: Free day Cartagena 

Today, you have free  me to do some op onal tours around Cartagena or just enjoy the city and discover it at your own pace.  (B/‐/‐) 

Op onal tours in Cartagena (not included): 

Horseback riding on the beach of La Boquilla 

The horses will be wai ng on La Boquilla beach.  We will ride the horses along the beach all the way to Playa de Oro bay where we will rest before riding to La Boquilla.  Beau ful Cartagena and Bocagrande sit in the background and the open sea breeze will refresh us while we explore the beach of La Boquilla. A er the tour, you might decide to have lunch at a beach restaurant (not included in the price) or take a dip in the Caribbean Sea.   

 

 

 

Canoe tour in La Boquilla 

You will take a guided walk through “La Boquilla”, an Afro‐ Cartagena fishing village. You will learn more about the history of this fishing village, da ng back more than 250 years, the village market’s cultural tradi ons and the joy that characterises the people of the Colombian Caribbean coast. This ethno‐ touris c tour is a walk through the streets ‐ cobbled and sandy ‐ where important stops will be made that mark the life of the village. In the a ernoon, you will have the chance to enjoy an amazing trip in a wooden canoe with a local captain, passing through the mangrove natural tunnels (The Love, The Happiness and Remember tunnels) in the Cienaga de Juan Polo Swamp. During this tour the local guide will explain more about the ecosystem of the mangroves (flora and wildlife).   

Coconut‐Workshop in „La Boquilla“ 

The project Madres‐Cabeza de Familia y sus Cocos (Women, family patriarch and their coconuts) is an associa on of seven women that in 2008 completed a cra s class sponsored by the founda on ProBoquilla to produce jewellery, silverware, containers, vases, belts and other accessories. They founded a small company and work together in the garden of the company’s president. All of those “Damartes” (Damas de Arte = Women of Art) are mothers shaped by their life story. The associa on is a working group of impressive women that manufacture great things out of simple means. 

You drive to La Boquilla where the Coconut‐Ladies will lead a workshop. 

 

 

 

 

They will introduce their company and detail how to make cra s out of coconuts.  Every par cipant can make their own souvenir out of the prepared pieces of coconut. For refreshments, you will be offered a cold coconut beverage and a fried plantain with tomato‐onion‐sauce (Patacon con Ahogado). You can choose between making a bracelet, a key chain or a necklace. The workshop takes place in a charming rus c restaurant (Botswana Beach Club) right on the beach of la Boquilla. A er the work is done, you can take a dip in the Caribbean Sea before going back to Cartagena. Those who choose to stay at the beach for longer can book transport for later (addi onal charge). 

Dance Workshop 

Experience direct contact with the na ve popula on of this Afro‐ Cartagena fishing village and discover more about their culture.  Learn the rhythms and steps of champeta (local dance), walk the streets with a local guide, chat with locals and visit the homes of the fisherman. You will visit a typical restaurant to sample delicious local dishes‐ fish soup, coconut rice, fish dishes, fried plantain and salad. You will then go to the dock with your guide and ride in a canoe through the mangroves, where you can watch the sunset, surrounded by endemic and migratory birds. 

Cooking Class with Lunch 

Gastronomy is an important part of the local culture and the Cartageneros are proud of their Caribbean cuisine. Apart from tas ng it, what would be be er than learning how to cook seafood, coconut rice and other special es of Cartagena gastronomy? The chefs will give us a presenta on about the ingredients before they teach us how to prepare typical dishes. The class takes two hours. During lunch, we will have general discussions about what we just learned. The cooking class can be taken in a colonial house in the historical city centre, in a beach restaurant at La Boquilla beach or in the Academia de Artes Culinarias Le Gourmet.  Op onal: You can buy the ingredients at the Bazurto Market.  Night Tour: Salsa‐Route

Cartagena has a history of Cuban musical and cultural influence. Salsa aficionados opened clubs and bars more than 30 years ago. With us you get to visit real living patrimony: El Koreano has been there for more than 40 years; El Safari, for 30; and Joseph Black´s Charanga, at least 15. Travel around Vueltabajero, a living salsa museum and meet expert salsa hosts, dancers, and specialists. We include full transporta on provided by TRANS ARRIEROS from and to your hotel, at least four hours of nightlife and fun, three drinks (non‐alcoholic or beers), a salsa speaker, two dancers for you to learn from and enjoy with and a delicious snack stop.   

Day 11: Departure ‐ Private transfer to airport Cartagena
