7.2 Configuring the LAN adapter forapp control
When the LAN adapter is used for app control (only), there is hardlyany configuration required. After correct installation and systemstart-up, all system components (LAN adapter, router, and OnlineController app) should be able to find each other automatically byway of their IP address.
If the system components fail to connect to each other automatically, you can connect them to each other manually by making use of afixed IP address. In this case, provide LAN adapter, router, andOnline Controller app with the same fixed IP address. For how toprovide the LAN adapter with a fixed IP address, see "7.8 Networksettings" on page 16.
7.3 Configuring the LAN adapter forthe Smart Grid application

INFORMATION
By default "DHCP active" is set to "Automatic" and IPsettings are configured automatically and dynamically byway of the DHCP protocol. When setting "DHCP active" to"Manually", you bypass the DHCP protocol. Instead, definea static IP address for the LAN adapter in the fields next to"Static IP address".
When you set a static IP address for the LAN adapter, youmake access to the configuration web interface via theURL (http://altherma.local) impossible. Therefore, whensetting a static IP address, note it down somewhere, thisfor easy future access to the configuration web interface.
Via the DIP switchThe DIP switch allows you to assign a custom static IP address tothe LAN adapter. This IP address is "169.254.10.10". When youchoose to do this, you bypass any IP settings made on theconfiguration web interface.
To assign the custom static IP address to the LAN adapter:
1 Turn OFF the power to the LAN adapter.
2 Set DIP switch 2 to "ON".
3 Turn ON the power.
NOTICE
Use appropriate tooling to set the DIP switches to anotherposition. Beware of electrostatic discharge.
INFORMATION
The LAN adapter only checks the configuration of the DIPswitch after a power reset. To configure the DIP switch, therefore make sure the power to the adapter is OFF.

8 Smart Grid applicationINFORMATION
This information ONLY applies to LAN adapterBRP069A61.
INFORMATION
To use the LAN adapter for the Smart Grid application, it isrequired that DIP switch 1 is set to "OFF" (default thecase). Alternatively, to disable the possibility of using theLAN adapter for the Smart Grid application, it is possible toset DIP switch 1 to "ON".
NOTICE
Use appropriate tooling to set the DIP switches to anotherposition. Beware of electrostatic discharge.
The LAN adapter allows for the connection of the Daikin Althermasystem to a solar inverter/energy management system, and enablesit to run in various Smart Grid operation modes. In this way, allsystem components work together to limit the injection of (self-generated) power into the grid, instead converting this power intothermal energy by making use of the heat pump's thermal storagecapacity. This is called "energy buffering".
The system can buffer energy in the following ways:
▪ Heat up the domestic hot water tank;
▪ Heat up the room;
▪ Cool down the room.
The Smart Grid application is controlled by the solar inverter/energymanagement system, that monitors the grid, and sends commandsto the LAN adapter. The adapter is connected to the solar inverter/energy management system (digital outputs) by way of connectorX1A (digital inputs).

INFORMATION
For the system to run in all 4 possible Smart Grid operationmodes, the solar inverter/energy management systemneeds to have 2 digital outputs available. If only 1 output isavailable, then you can only connect to SG0, and thesystem can only run in the "Normal operation/Freerunning" and "Recommended ON" operation modes. Forthe system to run in "Forced OFF" and "Forced ON", aconnection to SG1 is required (for those operation modes,SG1 needs to get "closed").
INFORMATION
In case the system layout includes a controllable wallsocket, and the solar inverter/energy management systemactivates this socket, SG0 gets "closed" and the systemruns in the "Recommended ON" operation mode. If thesolar inverter/energy management system deactivates thesocket, SG0 (and SG1) get "opened" and the system runsin the "Normal operation/Free running" operation mode(due to the 230 V C detection voltage to X1A/L+N gettingcut off).

8.1.1 Energy bufferingDepending on Smart Grid settings (configuration web interface),energy buffering either happens in the domestic hot water tank only,or in the domestic hot water tank and in the room. You can choosewhether or not to have the electrical heaters assist with the bufferingof energy in the domestic hot water tank.
Energy buffering Systemrequirements
Description
Domestic hot watertank
▪ Make sure adomestic hot watertank is part of thesystem.
▪ Domestic hot watersetting [E-05](DHW operation)MUST be set to"DHW" ([E-05]=1)Domestic hot watersetting [E-06](DHW tank type.)MUST be set to"DHWtank" ([E-06]=1).
The system producesdomestic hot water. The tank heats up thewater up to themaximumtemperature.
Room (heating) ▪ Allow for bufferingin the room on theconfiguration webinterface.
▪ Make sure userinterface setting[C‑07] is set to2: RT Control.
The system heats upthe room up to thecomfort setpoint.
Room (cooling) ▪ Allow for bufferingin the room on theconfiguration webinterface.
▪ Make sure userinterface setting[C‑07] is set to2: RT Control.
The system coolsdown the room downto the comfortsetpoint.
INFORMATION
▪ The system will ONLY buffer energy when the indoorunit is in standby mode. Normal operation (scheduledactions, etc.) has priority over energy buffering.
▪ On the configuration web interface, the buffering isdefault set to "domestic hot water tank only".
▪ The maximum temperature during domestic hot watertank buffering is the maximum tank temperature for theapplicable tank type.
▪ The space heating/cooling setpoint during roombuffering is the comfort setpoint for the room.
8.1.2 Power limitationIn the "Recommended ON" operation mode, the power consumptionof the Daikin Altherma system is limited either statically ordynamically. In both cases, it is possible to include the powerconsumption of the electrical heaters in the calculation (default NOTthe case).
8 Smart Grid application
Installer reference guide
19BRP069A61+BRP069A62Daikin Altherma LAN adapter4P464229-1B – 2018.10
IF THENStatic power limitation
(Static power limitation)
The power consumption of theindoor unit is limited staticallybased on a fixed value (default1.5 kW) that is set in theconfiguration web interface.During energy buffering, thepower consumption of the indoorunit will NOT exceed this limit.
The value for this setting is onlyused if the system does notinclude an electricity meter (onthe configuration web interface:Pulse meter setting: "No meter").Otherwise, make use of dynamicpower limitation.
Dynamic power limitation
(Pulse meter setting)
The power limitation is auto-adaptive, and dynamicallyperformed based on the powerinjection into the grid, measuredby the electricity meter. Tominimise the power injection intothe grid, the indoor unit operatesas much as possible.
INFORMATION
When using an electricity meter for dynamic powerlimitation, it is recommended to set it to 100 pulse/kWh or1000 pulse/kWh (i.e. Pulse meter setting on theconfiguration web interface).
INFORMATION
▪ In the "Forced ON" operation mode, energy bufferinghappens WITHOUT power limitation.
▪ To get the most out of the energy buffering it isrecommended to make use of dynamic power limitationby way of an electricity meter.
▪ The electrical heaters will ONLY operate when thepower limitation is higher than the power rating of theheaters.
▪ For ERLQ011~016 and EBLQ+EDLQ011~016CA(3)V3+W1 outdoor units, the powerlimitation functionality is NOT available. When theseoutdoor units are used in a Smart Grid system, they willoperate without power limitation. Electrical heaterassistance, however, will be disabled.
WARNING
Make sure to connect the electricity meter in the correctdirection, so that it measures the total energy injectedINTO the grid.
INFORMATION
▪ For dynamic power limitation to be possible, a singleconnection point to the grid is required (one connectionpoint for the photovoltaic system AND the domesticappliances). To function properly, the Smart Gridalgorithm requires the net sum of generated ANDconsumed energy. The algorithm will NOT work whenthere are separate meters for generated energy andconsumed energy.
▪ Since dynamic power limitation is performed based onelectricity meter input, you do NOT have to set thepower limitation value in the configuration webinterface.
8.2 Operation modes
8.2.1 "Normal operation/Free running" modeIn the "Normal operation"/"Free running" operation mode, the indoorunit operates as normal, according to its owner's settings andschedules. No Smart Grid functionalities are enabled.
8.2.2 "Recommended ON" modeIn the "Recommended ON" operation mode, the Daikin Althermasystem makes use of solar/grid power (when it is available, asmeasured by the solar inverter/energy management system) toproduce domestic hot water and/or heat up or cool down the space. The amount of solar/grid power that is used for buffering depends onthe domestic hot water tank and/or the room temperature. To alignsolar/grid capacity and the power consumption by the DaikinAltherma system, the power consumption of the indoor unit is limitedeither statically (by a fixed value set in the configuration webinterface) or dynamically (auto-adaptively, as measured by theelectricity meter – if part of the system layout).
8.2.3 "Forced OFF" modeIn the "Forced OFF" operation mode, the solar inverter/energymanagement system trigger the system to deactivate the operationof the outdoor unit compressor and the electrical heaters. This isespecially useful in case of energy management systems that reactto high energy tariffs, or in case of grid overload (signaled by theenergy distributor to the energy management system). Once active,"Forced OFF" mode will cause the system to stop space heating/cooling, as well as domestic hot water production.
INFORMATION
Once running in one of the Smart Grid operation modes, the system will keep running in that mode until the inputstate of the LAN adapter is changed. Beware that if thesystem runs in "Forced OFF" mode for a long time, comfortissues can occur.
8.2.4 "Forced ON" modeIn the "Forced ON" operation mode, the Daikin Altherma systemmakes use of solar/grid power (when it is available, as measured bythe solar inverter/energy management system) to produce domestichot water and/or heat up or cool down the space. The amount ofsolar/grid power that is used for buffering depends on the domestichot water tank and/or the room temperature. In contrast to the"Recommended ON" operation mode, there is NO power limitation:the system selects the comfort setpoint for space heating/cooling,and will heat up the domestic hot water tank to the maximumtemperature. The outdoor unit compressor and the electrical heatersare not limited in their power consumption.
The "Forced ON" operation mode is particularly useful in case ofenergy management systems that react to low energy tariffs, in caseof grid overload (signaled by the energy distributor to the energymanagement system), or when multiple houses are connected to thegrid that are controlled simultaneously, this to stabilise the grid.
INFORMATION
Once running in one of the Smart Grid operation modes, the system will keep running in that mode until the inputstate of the LAN adapter is changed.
