Joke of the Week!!

Bobby and his grandmother were looking at vacation pic-tures. “It looks just like an artist painted this scenery,” Grandma said. “Did you know God painted it all for you, Bobby? “Yes,” Bobby said. “God did it with His left hand.” This confused his grandmother a bit, “What makes you say God did this with His left hand?” “Well,” said Bobby, “we learned at Sunday school last week that Jesus sits on God’s right hand.”

Thanks and Congratulations to our New Catholics! These new Catholics are a Pentecost gift of Jesus to His Church! The Saint Anthony

Parish Family welcomes all that received Sacraments and were received into full Com-

munion with the Church at the Vigil Mass on Saturday May 30, 2020. It has been a

privilege to provide them with friendship and guidance throughout the process.

Let us welcome our newest sisters and brothers in Christ and join them in committing

ourselves to the service of our Lord Jesus.

Keep them all in your prayers throughout this year and into eternity.

The Annual Catholic Appeal unifies us as Catholics in

the Archdiocese of St. Louis. Each year we demon-

strate we are one Church in our efforts to assist those

who are suffering and abandoned. Catechetical pro-

grams introduce our young children to the love and

peace of the Good Shepherd, Jesus Christ. Our newly

ordained priests join their new parishes with enthusi-

asm and great hope.

Your support means thousands will find grace and

mercy through the Annual Catholic Appeal, not be-

cause those we serve are Catholic, but because we are

Catholic. Please consider a gift today.

1 Cor 10:16-17; Jn 6:51-58

First Reading — The LORD, merciful and gracious, rich in kindness and faithfulness (Exodus 34:4b-6, 8-9).

Psalm — Glory and praise for ever! (Daniel 3).

Second Reading — Brothers and sisters, rejoice. Live

with one another in peace, and the God of peace will be with you (2 Corinthians 13:11-13).

Gospel — God did not send the Son to condemn the

world, but to give it abundant life (John 3:16-18).

The gospel call to leave everything and follow Christ was the rule of Saint Anthony of Padua’s life. Over and over again, God called him to something new in his plan. Every time Anthony responded with renewed zeal and self-sacrificing to serve his Lord Jesus more completely. His journey as the servant of God began as a very young man when he decided to join the Augustinians in Lisbon, giving up a future of wealth and power to be a servant of God. Later when the bodies of the first Fran-ciscan martyrs went through the Portuguese city where he was stationed, he was again filled with an intense longing to be one of those closest to Jesus himself: those who die for the Good News. So Anthony entered the Franciscan Order and set out to preach to the Moors. But an illness prevented him from achieving that goal. He went to Italy and was stationed in a small hermitage where he spent most of his time praying, reading the Scriptures and doing menial tasks. The call of God came again at an ordination where no one was prepared to speak. The humble and obedient Anthony hesitantly ac-cepted the task. The years of searching for Jesus in prayer, of reading sacred Scripture and of serving him in poverty, chastity, and obedience had prepared Anthony to allow the Spirit to use his talents. Anthony’s sermon was astounding to those who expected an unprepared speech and knew not the Spirit’s power to give people words. Recognized as a great man of prayer and a great Scripture and theology scholar, Anthony became the first friar to teach theology to the other friars. –Franciscan

Spread the Gospel - The Good News of

Jesus & His St. Anthony Family!

A Holy Community through Holy Communion.

Moses is a man after our own hearts, for haven’t we all dealt with more than our share of stiff-necked people?

Indeed, haven’t we all gotten a little stiff-necked our-

selves at times? Complaining . . . impatient . . . quick to

anger. How lucky for Moses—how lucky for all of us—that God is exactly the opposite! And we don’t even have

to guess about it. The Lord tells us so directly. Accord-

ingly, Moses does what we all need to do. Even with the tablets in hand, he bows down and asks for God’s forgive-

ness and grace. Encouraging us to live together in

peace—and in God’s favor—the Apostle Paul knows all about this grace, joyfully invoking Christ’s grace on us

along with God’s love and the Holy Spirit’s. “Rejoice,”

he says. And when it comes to rejoicing, John offers us

the gladdest words of all: the assurance of eternal life through Jesus.
