"As it is well known to all ofus that the turbulence along the
border didn’t let the residentsbreathe sigh of relief and repeatedviolation of ceasefire further pushthem to a situation which is full ofstress, fear and unpredictable suf-ferings," he said.
Dr. Sharma made these obser-vations while examining patientsas a part of his mission to awarethe common populace about theprevalence of cardiovascular dis-eases in the border village BaspurBangla which is situated on theIndo-Pak Internationals border inR S Pura sector. the fourth day of ongoing AnnualDrama Festival, the Hindustaniplay 'Dhaed Roti' was presentedby Hardeep Dance & CulturalSociety, on the fourth day ofAnnual Drama Festival at theAbhinav Theatre, here today.
The play written by Sat PalSharma and directed by Rakun, short for RajinderKumar Narangrevolves around oneoriginally kindhearted Chandanwho turns a hard-ened criminal and adrunkard afterwrongly jailed for acrime he did notcommit. Misreadingthe intimacy ofSushma, his grownup daughter, withthe young writerPradeep, whom hehad given shelter, the incensed Chandan Singhthrows out noble writer. Anothercriminal Shanker, after gettingChandan drunk, tries to molestSushma. She is saved by deaf &dumb, who is, in fact, a CIDInspector. Chandan, after comingto know the misdeed of Shankarmurders him. When Pradeep, takes the blame of Shankar’smurder on himself, Chandanspeaks the truth in court and fear-ing a lenient view by the court, request for the death penalty andtakes out a revolver. He is killedby a security personal.
The highlight of today’s playwas the return to the theater of old
actors like Rajinder Kumar Narangin the role of Chandan Singh andSubhash Jamwal as Shankar,Shashi Bhushan as Pradeep andRakesh Kumar as deaf & dumband CID inspector, Anvi Jain asSushma gave good performances.
But their hard work in todayproduction was let down by thechoice of script, which smackedof an old film plot wherein theinherent goodness in human
beings triumphs despite theunjust machination of society.
The courtroom set was welldesigned, light design barringselective sequences where spotswere used, was generally a full-lit affair which gave a kind ofcontinuity to the otherwise long-drawn scenes.
Other actors were ShishupalKhajuria, Ajay Kumar, AnjanaPadwal, Atin Tikka, UmarQureshi, Ajay Sharma, PuneetGupta and Parveen Kumar. Musicby Surinder Manhas, lights byPankaj and Suraj Ganjoo, soundby Lokesh and costumes byHardeep Singh Chib.
