Sugar Factory was founded in 2005 and has since then grown out to a multimedia night theater. A place where a cross-over of music, theater, dance, video and every other art form comes together. Stimulating and facilitating this cross-over of music, art and culture has always been the main focus. Next to that, Sugar Factory also functions as a springboard for young and up-and-coming talent. The complete package of art and the showcasing of talent on the live-stage has made Sugar Factory, founded as a private initiative, an example for the creative industry and is know a part of the Kunstenplan (Artplan) 2008 – 2012. This structural art subsidy allows Sugar Factory to give young and starting talent a platform for their work.

Collective ‘Daily Paper’ is a perfect example of young talent that’s supported by Sugar Factory. A creative, entrepreneurial spirit, mixed with music, art, photo- and videogra-phy. A perfect match with Sugar Factory.

Editor’s noteDear reader,

Accomplishments are things to be proud of and to cherish. They are a synonym for success. It’s tangible. It’s the fruit of your labour. It is what defines your life to a certain extent. At introductions, when people ask, “So what do you do?” they are calculating your accomplishments on the basis of your answer. It’s what drives many of us and for others it’s the key to happiness. It’s our livelihood; for if we don’t accomplish, we wont succeed. An accomplishment initially starts with an idea. That idea turns into a con-cept, that concept turns into a plan and that plan turns into labour. Finally that labour turns into a tangible accomplishment.

The notion of basing success on accomplishments is very defining to my generation, a generation constantly in search of instant gratification, pace, thrill and the fast life. I reach a moment in my life, every four or so months, were I internally assess on how I’m progressing in all interesting disciplines and culture. Stagnation is the devil. So on one Friday, Daily Paper had a team meeting. We huddled around and decided we weren’t happy. We decided to brainstorm and from that a new idea was born and faithfully we received a call for a meeting at the Sugar Factory the following day.

Gingerly and eagerly we speculated on what this meeting might be about. We all had our ideas but no one thought we would be asked to organise an event. Our assignment was to fuse fashion with music, instantly my mind went into overdrive; scenarios, visions and words blended and turned in to several ideas, which merged and turned into the final idea. Enthusiasm aloof. Enthusiasm enthuses me and is certainly a critical com-ponent to achieving and accomplishing things; it’s the motor that ignites the drive. Now our mission was to turn the idea into something tangible. We enlisted the help of our talented friends and got to work.

The outcome is a vision of style presented by the future visionaries.

“If the future is ours, we will accomplish the unaccomplishable.”

Yours truly,

Asheru Noir
