DIOCESE OF LLANDAFF

ESGOBAETH LLANDAF

DAILY PRAYER

INTENTIONS

JULY TO DECEMBER 2014

This calendar has been compiled by the Diocesan Spirituality Group.

The information contained in this booklet is to the best of the compilers’

knowledge correct as at the 20th June 2014.

Prayers for inclusion in future editions of this booklet would be

welcomed and should be sent to:

Roy Saunders at Windways, 15, Trafalgar Terrace, Ystrad, Rhondda.

CF41 7RG or to [email protected]

The work and witness of the Church in the diocese, in vale and `valley,

in city and suburb, in town and village, is part of the unceasing worship

offered by the wider Church of Almighty God.

In our diocese, the mother church, Llandaff Cathedral remembers the

parishes, clergy, committees, specialist ministries and the people each

day at the Eucharist. The diocese is asked to pray for the work of the

Cathedral in its servant role and especially on those days in which your

parish is remembered at the Cathedral.

The titles of the Sundays and other days are from the Church in Wales

Lectionary for 2013/14

The daily intentions of the Anglican Cycle of Prayer are included.

A Prayer for the Diocese

Father, you gave us Jesus Christ your Son to be both

Lord and Saviour. By the power of your Spirit, renew

your Church in this Diocese of Llandaff, and help us to

bring the Good News of salvation to all your people. We

ask this in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen

In the morning:

I arise to-day with the power of God to guide me, the might of God to

uphold me, the wisdom of God to teach me, the eye of God to watch

over me, the ear of God to hear me, the word of God to give me

speech, the hand of God to protect me, the way of God to prevent

me, the shield of God to shelter me, the host of God to defend me;

against the temptations of vices, against the lusts of nature, against

every man who meditates injury to me, whether far or near, with few or

with many. St. Patrick

At all times:

Grant us, Lord, to know in weakness the strength of Your Incarnation: in

pain the triumph of Your Passion: in poverty the riches of Your

Godhead: in reproach the satisfaction of Your sympathy: in loneliness

the comfort of Your continual presence: in difficulty the efficacy of

Your intercession: in perplexity the guidance of Your wisdom; and by

Your glorious death and resurrection bring us at last to the joy of seeing

You face to face. Unknown

i)

Before Reading Scripture:

Holy Spirit,

come and speak through this word of God.

Open my heart and my mind to all that you are still saying

through this life changing Gospel event.

Let me see the actions of Jesus and hear his words

in a way that will lead me to a deeper relationship,

and a more courageous response,

so that I may live the Word that has been proclaimed,

in the daily routine of my life.

Through Jesus the Way the Truth and the Life.

for this and every day. Amen

ii)

Heavenly Father,

we thank you for speaking to us

through the Holy Scriptures;

help us both to listen with our minds,

that we may understand its message;

and to listen with our hearts,

that we may respond in faith.

So may your word change

and shape our lives,

and truly be a lamp for our path

a constant light for our lives

iii)

Come Lord Jesus and bring us your freedom

Come Lord Jesus and bring us your peace

Come Lord Jesus and break the bonds

we make around our lives

Come Lord Jesus and purify the darkness

from within

Come Lord Jesus and reveal your healing power

Come Lord Jesus and let the seeds of your word

take root at the heart of our lives.

So may your transforming grace

renew, refresh and inspire us.

iv)

Glory to you Lord Jesus Christ,

for you are the sun of hope

rising in the morning light,

you are the depth of love

in the midst of midday rest,

you are the still hovering spirit of peace

in the isolating darkness of the night.

As your perfect prayer

and the echoing praises of all the Saints

ascend to the throne of grace;

so may our prayers be taken up

and your gracious help move us onwards.

May we hear your saving word

with mind and heart,

know the power of your guiding hand,

and cherish the love that invites us in

to the one great canticle of praise;

the song flowing from the whole of creation,

that breaks through the barriers of time and place.

Glory to you, Lord Jesus Christ, Amen

v)

I am the Water of life,

the living fountain

that will refresh and renew you.

I am the Light of the World,

that will give you courage

to enter the darkness of the world,

and to keep the faith in a changing church.

I am the Bread of Life

The ground grain that rises as life-giving bread,

that will sustain you

and help you to grow in faith,

and deepen your communion

with saints, living and departed.

I am the True Vine,

that can unite you

and nurture your desire

to be poured out in joyful service,

like the crushed fruit poured into the chalice of my love.

I am the Way the Truth and Life:

The path, the means and the end of all journeys.

I am the resurrection and the life

that will bring you to your final destination,

to the one God and Father of us all.

To him be the glory for ever and ever. Amen

iv)

Into Silence

Rarely an escape from all noise

but entering into an inner stillness;

where God may have space to enter

and embrace your whole self.

You may not ‘feel’ any different.

You are not aiming to ‘hear’ the voice of God

in your head or have a low-rate vision.

You are not asking for the birth of a wonderful

insight or the sudden sorting out of a

prevailing problem.

You are simply creating a space,

and eliminating some of the distractions

that would keep your mind ruminating.

You are not seeking to create a white board

for God to write on,

and certainly not in mystical search for a higher plane.

Your feet are firmly rooted to the ground,

your hands open in welcome,

your breathing (through the nose) at its usual

relaxed rate,

your eyes closed and muscles relaxed -

and yet you are sitting in an attentive position.

Most important is your desire

to freely offer this time and space to God

without any demand for a ‘result’.

Many people find a repeated prayer

helps to keep the mind focused, and its

rhythm has a wonderful calming effect.

Try: Jesus Saviour (breathe in), Jesus Lord (breathe out).

Try this for five minutes before or after

a time of prayer – or before a ‘busy’ service begins.

Increase the time, as you feel drawn to

savour this special time – quality time for you and God.

At the end give thanks for the gift

of this space and look forward to the next time

into stillness and silence.

Fr. Colin Sutton

Grant O Lord the royalty of inward happiness and the serenity which

comes from living close to you. Daily renew in us the sense of joy and

let the Eternal Spirit of the Father dwell in our souls and bodies, filling

every corner of our hearts with light and grace, so that bearing about

with us the infection of good courage, we may be diffusers of life, and

may meet all ills and accidents with gallant and high-hearted

happiness, giving you thanks always for all things. Amen

Teach us good Lord, to serve the as though deservest,

To give and not to count the cost,

To fight and not to heed the wounds,

To toil and not to seek for rest,

To labour and not to ask for any reward save that of knowing that we

do Thy will. Amen

Diocesan Spirituality Group.

The group meets bi-monthly. Over the last year we have concentrated

on the work of training people for Spiritual Accompaniment.

We have run two successful courses:-

‘Exploring Spiritual Accompaniment’ and

‘Deepening your Spiritual Journey’.

Seasonal Quiet Days are also offered.

Over the next year we are seeking to broaden what we offer. The

Group has a web presence on the Diocesan Web page at

www.llandaff.org.uk

If you are interested in exploring what the Spirituality Committee can

offer you or your parish community please email the Chairperson Revd
