Is the training just about The Daily Sparkle ?No. Using The Sparkles reminiscence newspaper tomaximum effect is covered but this is only one part of theoverall programme.

Is there a catch?Only in that this programme is exclusive to Sparklesubscribers.

What do you expect activity staff to be able to dodifferently by the end of this year?We are confident that staff will have experienced a significantand permanent increase in confidence and ability enablingthem to plan and deliver a range of quality activities withoutneeding to rely on high levels of resources.

Why is it a year long?One-off trainings have been shown to have very limited impacton future behaviour whereas extended programmes createpermanent change in attitudes and skill levels. Ourprogramme is set up for sustainable change.

How much is it to subscribe to the Daily Sparkle?£59 p.c.m per home for The Daily Sparkle and £49 pcm perhome for The Weekly Sparkle. (Please note prices increase15% on May 2nd).

Is this another boring training?One thing our trainings are not is boring! • This programme will empower Activity staff to provide the optimum Quality of Life for your residents, in line withthe values of “Voice - Choice - Control”.

• It is a practical programme - all its elements are focused on the development of new skills & their subsequentimplementation.

• The programme is designed to provide documentation to cover the relevant CQC compliance requirements.

The Objectives

This Year Long Training Curriculum Includes:

The activity staff training program is the latestdevelopment of Everyday Miracles Ltd, a companydedicated to enhancing the quality of life for older peopleand people with dementia.

Founded in 2005, Everyday Miracles initially trained presenters tolead invigorating activity sessions in care homes. In 2008 the companydeveloped The Sparkles reminiscence newspapers which now providethe core activity in many hundreds of care homes.

In the second half of 2010 Everyday Miracles began creating a training andsupport programme for activity staff in response to feedback and requestsfrom a number of leading health care groups.

This program includes trainings on reminiscence, cognitive stimulation therapy, reality orientation therapyand a number of other simple, effective and enjoyable approaches

Live Nationwide Training;We can either offer an exclusive day, just for your staff, or for smaller groups, attendance at regionaltraining days which are open to all activity organisers (see dates opposite).

Distance Learning;Fortnightly trainings including; “The Reminiscence Training Guide” - a 24 part course written byreminiscence experts and commissioned for The Daily Sparkle.

Assignments;As new skills are taught to participants they are given appropriate assignments to practiceimplementation and gain confidence.

Access To The Online Training Forum; ‘The Real Issues’;An opportunity to discuss pertinent ‘real issues’ with other activity staff and healthcare professionals. Achance to ask for advice and support.

Monthly Tele-Conferences;Each month we host a phone based seminar with a special guest from the care industry. They will sharetheir expertise and take questions.

Coaching & Support Line;A one hour weekly opportunity to phone and ask our team of experts for specific advice.

Staff Competitions;A boost to engaging activity staff and residents whilst rewarding innovation and best use.

CQC Compliance Documentation- Evidence provided of the participant’s training.- Specific guidance and generic templates supplied to activity staff to enable them to produce effectiveC.Q.C. evidence regarding Quality of Life provision.
