Dale Carnegie Trainer

President Sebio introduced Paul McManus, CEO of El Centro Office Supply and a certified Dale Carnegie trainer who shared some principles and techniques to help expand our poten-tial and achieve success. Paul showed how a unique memory technique that creates number, word and image com-binations could heighten our ability to remember all kinds of things, including the keys for success. In the system, numbers and their corresponding words rhythm, which makes them easy to permanently remember. For instance; 1 goes with run, 2-zoo, 3-tree, 4-door and so on. Paul then gave each number-word combination an image to create an indelible memory. For in-stance, the 1-run combination was pegged with the image of a racehorse running backwards on a racetrack with its saddle carrying the object you need to remember. For his talk, Paul put the letter C in the saddle three times, to help us remember the first of nine Dale Carnegie human relations principles, which is “Don’t criticize, condemn or com-plain.” It was a good talk – and good words to live by.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

President Sebio launched into an assortment of an-nouncements by complet-ing the delivery of a certifi-cate brought to the club last month by District Governor Carl Kruse. The governor’s award honoring “the enthu-siasm and use of the power of Rotary to change lives…” went to a very deserving Ed Snively.

Mike Rood and his wife, Nancy, have graciously offered their home for the Rotary Christmas party that will be held Dec. 12. The normal, routine course of the announcements was interrupted by Lee Hindman, who along with the other past pres-idents, invoked what he called the “Past President’s Prerogative.” With that, they took Pres. Sebio to task for appearing a recent coat-and-tie event in attire more suitable for a Lee Hindman appearance – In other words, shorts. Our model president agreed to make up for his impropriety by contributing $100 to the club. Dan Williams announced the arrival of a grandson, Hunter Daniel. And, George McFaddin announced that he and his wife were celebrating the arrival of a great-grandson. Club members contributed funds to start savings accounts for both future Rotarians.

POT

Sue Giller won the $41 pot but then pulled the white chip so the big pot is growing.

Pledge, Prayer and Song

Mitch Selking led the pledge. Bob Mapes blessed us and in-spired thoughts and prayers for veterans in anticipation of up-coming Veterans Day holiday. Cyndy Lopez an-swered the call to lead the song with her all-girl chorus made up of the wom-en Rotarians at the meeting including Diane Cason, Rosa Caro, Kris Becker, Jennifer Thomason and Sue Giller.

Jim Brock was recognized for a trip he and his wife took Europe. The twists and turns of the trip were a little convoluted, but the high point of the trip was that Jim and Sue got to see Andy Horne’s daugh-ter, Betsy perform an opera in Austria. Andy agreed to pay the $100

fine. Dan Nuffer was fined $50 after delivering a rollicking tale about his involvement with a frisky young widow on Brockman Road. Thanks for your donations!

Visiting Rotarians and Rotarians With Guests

Richard Acosta of the Holtville Club was pre-sent as our resi-dent visiting Ro-tarian and Lanny Foote introduced son, Christopher, who lives in Flor-ida, as his guest.
